As of my understanding of base genetics, I’d like to show an example of it just so I know that I am correct (Cuz honestly, the forums I’ve been reading have been a bit confusing) please tell me if it’s correct!

So, there are four variables that’ll cause a base to be one color or another. These are;
- Color (Black, Red, Gold, Cream)
- Tint (Dark, Medium, Light)
- Shade (Solid, Countershaded)
- Rarity (Common, Special)

I’m using umbrella terms (Color group, Tint, Shade, and Rarity) for simplicity!
So, the percents of each variable are basically 50/50 until you get to rarity. There is a 15% chance of getting a special, doubled if both parents are special (30%). So, for reference…

For Color Groups:
Different Colors
A Color x B Color
|
50% A Color
50% B Color
0% C Color
0% D Color

Same Colors
A Color x A Color
|
100% A Color
0% B Color
0% C Color
0% D Color

So, if I just substitute the variables (A, B, C, D) With the parent’s color group whether they be same or different, they would create a cub that is either of the parent’s own colors. Which, is the same with Tint and Shade.
Tint and Shade Examples:

Different Tint
A Tint x C Tint
|
50% A Tint
0% B Tint
50% C Tint

Same Tint
B Tint x B Tint
|
0% A Tint
100% B Tint
0% C Tint

Different Shade
A Shade x B Shade
|
50% A Shade
50% B Shade

Same Shade
B Shade x B Shade
|
0% A Shade
100% B Shade

As such, the first three variables are easy. However, the last variable, Rarity, is a bit different. Special bases only have a 15% chance for each Special parent. So…
Rarity Examples:

Different Rarity
Common x Special
|
85% Common
15% Special

Same Common Rarity
Common x Common
|
100% Common
0% Special

Same Special Rarity
Special x Special
|
70% Common
30% Special

Is this correct? Are there any exceptions or am I wrong at all? I’d like to know, just so I know exactly what I need help with!

The tint section is inaccurate. Breeding light/dark will give 25% chance of light, 25% chance of dark, and 50% chance of medium. Medium/Medium = 25% dark, 25% light, 50% medium. Ultra rare specials that require one parent to have the base color in order for it to pass have lower chances of passing than 15%. Those include all bases applicable with applicators, sepia, celestial, lilac, sidereal, skyward, kimanjano, and pearl. Here is a handy breeding calculator if you are interested.
