Tank
Male | 6 years, 6 months | Wheel Dog | Mentions: Everyone

As Aatu said nothing but flattened his ears in apology, Tank nodded. He felt kind of bad for getting onto him, but safety was important. "Thank you." he said with a wag of his tail, watching the brute try to escape his collar as the wheel dog spoke to Dixie.

When Dixie responded, Tank's ears flattened as his tail and eyelids fell in sadness and mourning. So Musher was dead... He nodded, a sigh escaping his snow white maw as his head lowered in a quiet and quick morning for the Musher they all had served, whether it was for a short or long time being. But the news gave him a bit more grief than it normally would have because of their recent losses as well. Tank's yellow eyes could spot the unmoving bodies of Akira, their lead dog, and Inalu, one of their swing dogs. Their deaths were saddening and Musher's death only pile atop that grief. He could only imagine how Tyrian could feel, losing his fellow lead dog, and his master at the same time. If he could remember correctly, Tyrian knew Akira and Musher more than anyone else on the team. But, watching Tyrian hear the news of Musher's death, he didn't see too much grief on his face. Hm.. Maybe he was keeping it inside. Then Dixie ran off to Aatu and Tank was left standing by himself in the snow, a little upset about Musher, and feeling a bit awkward just standing alone atop the white blanket of snow that snow still fell upon, even if the blizzard had ceased.

With a sigh, he stood there until he heard Tyrian's commanding voice. Lashing his tail, he took off and bounded towards the lead dog. Listening, he nodded in agreement. That was for sure. Human didn't taste too well to Tank, and he would especially prefer not to eat Musher unless it was their last resource. Breathing in deeply for a quick moment, he set to work, determination pushing his hungry body to work and get the sled undone so they could eat. The team was starving, and this food was their last option for food - other than Musher.

Tyrian | Male | Six years old | Lead dog
Mentions: Everyone

With the team working together to uncover the sled, it didn't take the dogs too long. The more snow they dug away, the more the scent of food reached the male and made him dig faster. Finally he was able to crawl partially under the tipped sled and snap his jaws around one of the packages to haul it out. Once he had it above the surface he made quick work of the packaging and tore it open, scattering chunks of frozen meat over the snow.

He stared at them for a few moments before turning back to the sled, leaving the package open on the snow for his team. Once more, he dove into the hole he'd dug and began pulling out every package he could find. Once he was done, there were well over a dozen packages strewn across the snow. Not all of them smelled of food, but Tyrian still wanted to open them all so that he could be sure of what was in them.

About 20 minutes later, there was even more meat sitting on top of the snow. Tyrian let out a sigh as he realized that while this meat would fill their bellies, it wouldn't last for very long. There had only been a few weeks left on this trip, and Musher hadn't packed much more than what was needed for that time period. Sadness threatened to overwhelm him as he realized their situation was even more dire than he'd originally thought. All of this meat was frozen, and therefore would keep much longer than Musher's body. Due to the relative warmth of the tent, the human's body would decompose and become unsafe to eat.

Taking a deep breath, he lifted his head to gaze at him team. "We'll need to eat Musher first, or else we'll loose that as a source of food. Tank, bury the sled meat somewhere and mark it so that we can find it again. We can bed down here at least until Musher is....gone." The orders given, the male finally turned away from the team as the reality of the situation washed over him. His head and his tail slowly fell as his rear sank to the snow. Musher had been his master and caretaker from puppyhood, and now he was gone. He'd never run his hand over Tyrian's head again, nor would he toss him something from his plate when nobody was paying attention. The whines that threatened to rise from his throat had to be forced down however, lest he draw attention to the sled and the dogs around it.

Gathering his wits about him, the Elkhound returned to the others and began helping gather the frozen meat chunks.
