Sorry if this has already been suggested.

I think that when getting rid of items from your hoard there should be two buttons:

"Throw Item Away"
And
"Donate To Giving Tree"

There's a lot of confusion between players on how to give items to the giving tree, and not only would this clear things up a bit, it would also be useful for getting rid of things such as African Cucumbers and other junk items.

It would also help the Happy Tree Hour, as there wouldn't be random junk left in there by unknowing players unless it was purposefully dumped into the tree.
