According to the Wiki,
"Rosettes seem to be the most popular marking on Lioden currently, due to the mysterious nature of how they're passed on, and the fact that they can randomly pop up in any breeding. There are tons of user theories and conspiracies floating around regarding how Rosette works, but nobody truly knows—the code has yet to be cracked."

This could be taken to imply that they are truly random ("the fact that they can randomly pop up in any breeding"), but it can also imply that there is, in fact, a code ("the code has yet to be cracked").

Exhibit A:
Cream Rosette

Mother was chased, but had the following:

Eye Color: Lavender
Slot 1: Feline 1 Dark Brown
Slot 2: White Tips
Slot 3: Feline 2 Onyx
Slot 4: Feline 6 Onyx
Slot 5: Feline 4 Onyx
Slot 6: Feline 1 Onyx
Slot 8: White Undercoat
Slot 9: Feline 3 Onyx
Slot 10: Onyx Lace
-----
Exhibit B:
Gold Rosette

Mom had the following:
Base: Dark Vanilla (Fallow Nose)
Mane Type: Diabolic
Mane Color: Lilac
Eye Color: Pink
Slot 1: Brown Mask
Slot 4: Feline 6 Dark Brown
Slot 5: Feline 4 Onyx

Dad had the following:
Base: Blush Rose (White Nose)
Mane Type: Diabolic
Mane Color: Manakbir
Eye Color: Peach
Slot 1: Feline 7 Ginger
Slot 2: Feline 1 Black
Slot 3: Rose Pelage
Slot 4: Maroon Pelage
Slot 5: Onyx Lace
Slot 6: Feline 4 Silver
Slot 7: Feline 2 Ginger
Slot 8: White Panther
Slot 9: Under White 4
Slot 10: Feline 3 Onyx
-----
Exhibit C:
Brown Rosette

Mom had the following:
Base: Dun (White Nose)
Mane Type: Tsavo
Mane Color: Maroon
Eye Color: White
Slot 1: White Cobweb
Slot 6: Vitiligo 3
Slot 7: Vitiligo 2
Slot 9: Vitiligo 4

Dad had the Following:
Base: Onyx (Brown Nose)
Mane Type: Savage
Mane Color: Unholy
Eye Color: Saffron
Slot 4: Feline 6 Onyx
Slot 5: Feline 2 Onyx
Slot 6: Feline 1 Onyx
Slot 7: Feline 7 Onyx
Slot 8: Feline 5 Onyx
Slot 9: Feline 3 Onyx
Slot 10: Feline 4 Onyx

Do you see a pattern?
I do.
Every. Single. Father. Has. At. Least. One. Feline. Marking.
See it?
Maybe parents with Feline markings produce rosettes, but it's rare.

Hey guys, just wanted to update this as my research progresses. it seems clear that:
You have a 1/300 chance to breed ANY random rosette (though it may exclude soft and shaded)
But if your king meets certain criteria, you get a SECOND 1/300 roll for whatever that criteria can get you.

so essentially, there's a 1/2 chance the random rosette a king pops out is related to no factors whatsoever. But the other half is dictated by some trait. this is evident in every single test, half the rosettes make no sense but the other half follows a strict pattern. That might be what's been to elusive about them, throwing off so many people.

huh!!! that makes so much sense wtf

so leopard tails (if i'm interpreting properly, idk it was quite vague) will provide a 5% boost, but is that for ALL of them, or just the ones with criteria

We will have to find out when it comes out! The post did hint that the strange inheritance pattern plays a big role in the item, so I'm gonna say it affects everything. I'll keep crunching some numbers, it would be incredible to figure out just how to dictate the slot, color, and type in time.

so kinda like crunchy albino? if you crunchy an albino, you have a chance of an albino. but you get a second chance at albino if crunchy failed by simply breeding your crunchied lion to another?

Not sure how that works, but more like two ochre powers. Your king automatically has a 'ochre power' so you have a 1/300 chance of getting a rosette cub of any type.
If your king meets a second criteria, you get a second ochre powder! SO another 1/300 roll, except this roll is tied to a certain rosette shape. The original ochre powder doesn't just disappear, so you have the underlying 1/300 roll chance for any rosette type still.

To everyone on this thread, I did some more testing and confirmed the following:

NO CRITERIA: heavy, all inverted, rosette
CRITERA: shaded, soft
Heavy and heavy inverted can be boosted using feline, but they can show up in any breeding
Shaded MUST have a mane marking
Soft MUST have an unders marking

Everything is doubled checked now. The mane marking is a wild one, because if your king doesn't have the mane marking, then it was likely from the NCL mom who gave the rosette to the cub

https://www.lioden.com/lion.php?id=794214052916 I had this cub born that I never checked, and they had a random auburn rosette

Mother had a bandit unders marking and father had mottled rosette- that seems to check out!

In the case it helps, I just got a total random rosette in one of my litters, the mother has no markings, but the father is a 3x rosette. What is strage is that the cub got a seal rosette (which the father doesnt have) in a slot in which neither parent got a rosette, and its even occupied by the father already.
