According to the Wiki, "Rosettes seem to be the most popular marking on Lioden currently, due to the mysterious nature of how they're passed on, and the fact that they can randomly pop up in any breeding. There are tons of user theories and conspiracies floating around regarding how Rosette works, but nobody truly knows—the code has yet to be cracked." This could be taken to imply that they are truly random ("the fact that they can randomly pop up in any breeding"), but it can also imply that there is, in fact, a code ("the code has yet to be cracked"). ----- Exhibit A: Cream Rosette Mother was chased, but had the following: Base: Cream (White Nose) Mane Type: Normal Mane Color: Brown Eye Color: Grey Slot 1: Onyx Ripple Slot 2: Chocolate Top Slot 6: Feline 7 Black Dad had the following: Base: Silver Grey (White Nose) Mane Type: Sideburn Mane Color: Lilac Eye Color: Lavender Slot 1: Feline 1 Dark Brown Slot 2: White Tips Slot 3: Feline 2 Onyx Slot 4: Feline 6 Onyx Slot 5: Feline 4 Onyx Slot 6: Feline 1 Onyx Slot 8: White Undercoat Slot 9: Feline 3 Onyx Slot 10: Onyx Lace ----- Exhibit B: Gold Rosette Mom had the following: Base: Dark Vanilla (Fallow Nose) Mane Type: Diabolic Mane Color: Lilac Eye Color: Pink Slot 1: Brown Mask Slot 4: Feline 6 Dark Brown Slot 5: Feline 4 Onyx Dad had the following: Base: Blush Rose (White Nose) Mane Type: Diabolic Mane Color: Manakbir Eye Color: Peach Slot 1: Feline 7 Ginger Slot 2: Feline 1 Black Slot 3: Rose Pelage Slot 4: Maroon Pelage Slot 5: Onyx Lace Slot 6: Feline 4 Silver Slot 7: Feline 2 Ginger Slot 8: White Panther Slot 9: Under White 4 Slot 10: Feline 3 Onyx ----- Exhibit C: Brown Rosette Mom had the following: Base: Dun (White Nose) Mane Type: Tsavo Mane Color: Maroon Eye Color: White Slot 1: White Cobweb Slot 6: Vitiligo 3 Slot 7: Vitiligo 2 Slot 9: Vitiligo 4 Dad had the Following: Base: Onyx (Brown Nose) Mane Type: Savage Mane Color: Unholy Eye Color: Saffron Slot 4: Feline 6 Onyx Slot 5: Feline 2 Onyx Slot 6: Feline 1 Onyx Slot 7: Feline 7 Onyx Slot 8: Feline 5 Onyx Slot 9: Feline 3 Onyx Slot 10: Feline 4 Onyx Do you see a pattern? Added two more to my List Briar Heavy and White Inverted Shaded But what is the criteria for Inverted? Is it both Inverted + Shaded criteria or is it its own criteria??? Did a bunch of scries while Jelly Cake's got a leopard tail on with one NCL - going to be doing more with others before I breed him! I forgot to record the genetics of the cubs in some of these scries but KIND OF assume that the other results on the *cubs* don't matter as much as the parents' factors... maybe? Lucas, inverteds of all shapes and all colors have appeared in my tests. They just don't have criteria. SO you can have an inverted shaded rosette cub born, even if the parents are both markingless. Still testing to see if there's a way to boost the chance for certain inverted colors/shapes. And a reminder of the criteria that does exist: shaded must have a mane marking parent heavy doesn't have criteria but its significantly boosted by feline marks Soft must have an 'unders' parent Bushveld must have a green-based parent (excludes senegal and bushveld shaded rosette) If both parents meet none of the criteria, you can only get rosette, heavy rosette, or an inverted. None of the inverted shapes have critera. 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 17/03/24 @ 11:22:52 by Zaba (#296262) |

@Lucas (#229229), I don’t think those have any traits that need to be met. I had an onyx rosette born from my starter king and a three marking lioness (at least I think the lioness has three markings, I also remember that the lioness has some sort of cream base, but that’s just about it). I tried using Leopard Tails with a breeding that didn't meet suggested criteria for shaded rosette or soft rosette (neither parent had feline markings, neither parent had a mane marking) and had a cub born with inverted bone shaded rosette! Notably the father had a bone 'unders' marking AND a shaded rosette marking, so I'm wondering if that could be a factor, or whether it's just a coincidence. The dad does have Panther and Margay and a mane mark (Back hair). Mom has siamese, Panther, and an Under marking But apparently if its Inverted, it has no criteria even if they're Shaded or soft 0 players like this post! Like? |

We should probably start saying felidae markings instead of Feline Also find fact! Lions, tigers, jaguar, and leopards are all called panthers because a Panther is just any big cat from the "panthera" genus 0 players like this post! Like? |

Mane marking was added after the breeding, I didn't notice he definitely didn't have it beforehand though. Good point on the feline markings though, I didn't realise it wasn't restricted to literal feline markings. 0 players like this post! Like? |

@Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ ᗷᑌTTEᖇᖴᒪY EᖴᖴEᑕT @nebula So I was snooping around and someone's guide post said that they found white undermarkings to contribute to random rosettes?? White Blaze may count as an undermarking but I am unsure 0 players like this post! Like? |

^ sort of similar to that Did some more mass scrying and found the following: Briar rosettes ALSO have criteria. One parent must have a white marking (includes inherently white markings like vitiligo) Nobody has suspected Briar having any strings for the longest time, so it's a bit of a shocker. But all of the reported rosettes so far do coincide with it. I'd assume it's because white markings are on practically every lion and NCL. Futhermore: I know there has been discussion about feline vs felidae markings but I'm not sure what to make of it. I've tested other cat-like markings and none of them have yielded results whereas feline has. (Lace and margay failed to produce results) I'll test panther and Siamese soon to see if it's just those two. 0 players like this post! Like? |

I've scried a few briar colored rosettes from parents without white markings! And I'm 99% sure it has popped for me before too without a white marking on the parents. The above scries showed a briar shaded rosette for me. :o I'll update if I get an actual solid result from a breeding again though. :3 0 players like this post! Like? |

Hmm that's an odd one. Bushveld shaded rosette is broken to miss it's requirement, makes me wonder if briar is broken too. (Bushveld shaded rosette can be born without a greenbased parent) Since it's a new rosette the criteria likely didn't carry over 0 players like this post! Like? |
