Idris : Realm of the Shifters

beautiful-scenery-of-the-mountain-ingushsource

Character Sheets ||| Roleplay Thread

Idris was supposed to be the new world of peace and undiscovered destinies. Shifters by the hundreds fled there over a thousand years ago, when they were first persecuted by the human race. Over time, the human empires around them weakened and fell, leaving little to no humans remaining on earth, and none at all in Idris. This allowed the shifters to govern their home themselves for many generations with little problems.

The large continent of Idris was a beautiful and faithful home to the hundreds of shifters that remained, even as the human empires failed. Two large Kingdoms, Stratham and Aramore, reign over most of the land in Idris. Recently, the two have set shifters from each realm against one another in a battle of power and moral standings as the reigning rulers wage a war. Both economies are slowly falling and lives are becoming harder, not only for the commoners, but for the wealthy and high-classed as well. It is a disaster thought to befall only the naive humans. And now it befalls us.

You, whomever you have chosen to be, are stuck somewhere in the middle of this war. People are doing what they can to survive, banding together and fleeing some areas while others get together to raid smaller villages and towns in hopes of finding supplies before things get tougher. There were laws about killing and thievery, but of course, none of that matters when all of the higher-ups and officials are too busy fighting an unneeded war. The laws of the land have fallen to the hands of those in it.

More Setting/Plot Information

Idris is located in a medieval, fantasy world where humans, shifters, and a wide variety of other sentient and non-sentient animals coincide together in a forested, mountainous region. There is no electricity or vehicles, mostly just wood and stone structures (picture something kind of like Rome/Greece but with a lot less fancy columns in most areas), but there is also magic and witchcraft. Sometimes one might spot a unicorn in the forest, or a pegasus in the sky just as one might see a herd of wild horses; most fantasy creatures are not impossible to find here, but it must be remembered that the land they exist in is one at war. Groups of raiders destroy settlements and sometimes kill civilians, less-than-stellar knights are known to invade homes and take people's belongings or otherwise harass them, and most people are struggling to find food as it is. Will you have an impact in what happens, or will you avoid the war at all costs?

Where the War Began…

Stratham and Aramore have had a rocky relationship since their creation, together, in 3201. Two brothers, grieving after their father’s death, deigned to rule both halves of the kingdom by themselves instead of together. They quickly realized it was much harder to make decisions by yourself, but instead of reconciling, they put everything they had into pushing the other down. The Kingdoms were economically unstable for nearly two hundred years until the new rulers forgot the “family feud” the two Kingdoms had been in and started anew. That was until the recent dry weather, leaving most crops to wither in the sunlight and the people to struggle for resources.

The King of Stratham in particular has had a rougher time acquiring much-needed items for his kingdom and has sent small stealth groups into the low-land borders of Aramore to find what he cannot acquire himself. These short raids have come to the notice of Aramore’s royalty and their pride won’t stand for them to be stolen from, leaving them to send more scouts and knights to patrol their borders day and night.

Guidelines

1. All Lioden rules apply.
2. Godmodding/powerplay is unacceptable. Be realistic in fighting, and remember, the only character(s) you should be making decisions for are your own.
3. Have as many characters as you can handle, but each must be accepted by myself or my co-mods.
4. Try and be diverse with your species! Do NOT keep creating only tiger shifters and expect them to be accepted (of course, more common species will be expected to have more characters than uncommon and/or rare).
5. Just because I haven't said a species doesn't mean you can't create one! If you have a question, just ask. I'll do my best to help.
6. There ARE weredragons available to be created! (Only 3-4 roles will be open, and you must audition for them: basically meaning you need one other, more common species before you can ask to create a dragon shifter).
7. Any ranking above the Head of War must be accepted by me.
I may ask you to change your ranking based on if I think you're active/experienced enough for the role. Feel free to create your own ranking!
8. Mature content- excessive violence/gore, graphic death scenes, and/or breeding- needs to fade to black or be taken elsewhere.
9. This is intended to be an intermediate/advanced RP. Replies are required to be 5+ sentences and you must practice proper spelling/grammar.
10. Be active. If you'll be gone for 3+ days, please message me or let us know in chat.
11. You may use photo-references for your characters, just please remember to source them correctly (photobucket, tumblr, etc. are NOT original sources). Try not to use artwork unless you have proof it's yours/was given or sold to you/etc.
12.No same-player romance. If you want your character to have a significant other, then try and form a relationship IC.
13. Limit 1x1. Generally wait until 3-4 people have posted after you before replying again.
14. If you read and understand all the rules, please tell me your favorite mythical creature in the other section.

Species and Shifter Information

While they’re deemed both weres and shapeshifters, these are merely humans with the abilities to change form into one species of animal, which is passed through families and gene pools (if there are more canine shifters in your family than felines, then it’s likely your children will turn out as mostly canine shifters as well). However, nearly any species is a possibility because of the ancestry in shifter lineage. Shifters are not controlled by the moon or its phases, and learn to control their shifts as they age; most have complete control by the time they’re 18 to 22, but stress and certain emotions can still force a shift throughout most of their lives. Some shifter families may have customs against marrying those of different species, but there aren’t any major laws on it.

Common Were-species
[meaning 10 of each species can be created]
dogs (of all breeds), felines (domestic and wild: normally lions, jaguars, cheetahs, etc.), predatory birds (hawks, falcons, owls, eagles, etc.), most prey animals (rabbits, deer, goats, etc.) and most other carnivores (unless named under other categories); this class also holds more common mythical species such as pegasi, jackalopes, griffins, hippogriffs, manticores, chimeras, etc.

Uncommon Were-species
[meaning 6-8 of each species can be created]
foxes, wolves, and coyotes, exotic felines (some tigers, ocelots/servals & other African cat species), most bears, weasels, and ferrets (or otherwise carnivorous, small creatures); this class also holds less common mythical creatures such as the pheonix, thunderbirds, chupacabras, crocottas, Wolpertingers, hellhounds, etc.

Rare Were-species
[meaning about 4 of each species, max]
hyenas, African painted dogs, snow leopards, arctic foxes, polar bears, and many other endangered species. the rarest is dragons, as there's only 3-4 known ones left in the world; this class also holds least common mythical creatures, like the peryton, the chamrosh, Caladrius, Enfields, wyverns, Nemean lions, etc.

@Husk ~ That sounds good! I'll keep an eye out.

@Tenshi ~ Of course! I'd prefer you create a commoner for Stratham simply because there are already 3 in Aramore and it'd get us closer to starting, but it's up to you. If you're interested, we also need knights in Aramore terribly.

@MoeMoe ~ Glad you guys worked that out! Thank you!

I did start making an Aramore healer. Just to double check is that still alright? I'm slightly confused about how many healers we have running around at this point and I'm too tired to figure it out lol.

I'm almost positive with all the ones being made, the current count will be 2 for each kingdom (including yours). So yes, your healer is completely welcome, Potato!

That's perfectly alright! Take your time!
Do you know which rankings you'll want them to have? I'm just curious to see how much closer we'll be to starting.

Sounds good Tenshi!

@Talavania ~ We desperately need a Royal Advisor, a Head of War, and Knights for Aramore's Kingdom. If you'd be willing to fill any of those, it'd be greatly appreciated ^~^ The rankings on the first page of this thread should be pretty updated.

Awesome! Thanks a ton! Remember to make it for Aramore's Kingdom as Stratham currently has the position reserved.

gimme your character sheet making skills, tato~

I'm heading off to bed, it's almost 2 am here, but I've my placeholder down and shall work on filling it out through tomorrow.
:V mostly, I'm just copying and pasting. I'm considering making my boy a hellhound, but can do a chimera if common-weres are most needed.

She's super adorable :3 and accepted of course.

The only things we desperately need are the Head of War and Knights for Stratham!
(And the reserved positions to finish/post their forms).

We could also use a few more commoners and knights in Stratham, but they're not necessary and I'm also awaiting forms by those who've commented recently, so I expect a few more ranks to fill up/gain a few members ^~^ which is no rush, but I await dutifully lol I'm terribly excited to start this and it looks like we're nearing the member count needed! Just those last few in Aramore and I can start pushing for a beginning! Thank you everyone!

@Husk ~ that sounds lovely! I'll redo a count of the classes of shifters and let you know, but common and uncommon are both pretty welcome at this point as there's such a wide range of possibilities. Also, there are no hellhounds yet, so that's always cool!

Just curious, is the only interaction between the two kingdoms hostile? And with the rare shapeshifters, when they're found out to be rare (if they weren't known already) is it just like 'oh okay' or 'holy shit we need to tell others about this'?

@Mid ~ really, it depends on your character. Of course higher-up characters (like the royal family or the Head of War, even knights) might have a bigger bias towards dislike of the other Kingdom, but most likely more than a few lower-ranked citizens will either not care or just want to take care of themselves. This can mean they'll either be ruder towards those of the other Kingdom, patriotic and even prone to attack, or simply be curious as to why they're there in the first place. Like I said, it depends on where your character is in life and who they are, as cheesy as that sounds, lol

As for rarity, the dragon and most of the mythical creatures would be more of the "Holy shit we need to tell others" type, though it'd likely be considered rude by said creature to do so at the time xD while the animals in that same class are looked upon as rare and often unique/beautiful by most, the reactions really differ from character to character as well. While an African Wild Dog is rare, some of the citizens might not see Natalia's pretty dog form as all that spectacular. And Griffins, as gorgeous as they are, are considered "common" shifters even though characters that haven't encountered many mythical shifters in their life might consider them rare and wonderful.

This was basically a terrible run-around way of saying it really just depends on how you want the character to be. For example, however, if you're a knight and are told by the Head of War to do an act of sabotage, you can either go to the king (or advisor) and speak with them or if you approve (or are unwilling to step out of line/rank) then you'll likely be attacking the other Kingdom, so I ask that you're realistic to your rank, but have fun and let your characters make choices! ^~^ Sorry that was so long.
