First suggestion here so be patient with me lol... I'm going to keep it short and sweet. I'm suggesting an option on someone's den to "show name history" I know that I, and other members have complained about not knowing whether or not a certain member was the same, or changed their name. Sometimes, we don't memorize I.D numbers (nor want to randomly pm people) so being able to see name history might help out a bit! Another thing that people have brought up is that others will sometimes change their name after being rude/scamming etc to try to contact people again unknowingly. I think this could help combat such a problem Just a simple suggestion, don't know how feasible this is, but I do think it might help avoid some awkward/frustrating situations! If you don't agree, feel free to share as to why Perhaps it could be toggled on or off for those who really don't wish to have their names shared, as suggested by- 13th nightmare Alright as was pointed out, toggling it on/off can make it easy for scammers and such to simply turn it off, but making it required may not be preferred by rule abiding members. So, what if instead, we make it an option to be toggled on/off of you have had less than 3 name changes. Anything more, and you'll be required to display it? This way, members who just don't want cringey names shared can keep it to themselves (lest they use more than 3 names, in which case, it's somewhat of their own problem) and those who change their name practically daily will not be able to get away with it |

I've got to say no. I wouldnt like whatever stupid names I've had to be known. Not that I've had any yet, but you never know. Plus, you might recognise one of the persons old names and, turns out, they werent the only person with that name, so you're in the same problem as before. Personally, I do see a need for a permanent name to recognise people aside from the code, but that could be fixed by having a fixed second name. Basically, have one permanent name along with your permanent ID code, and then a 'display name' that is whatever you want it to be. Thats jsut one solution, idk. Every site has their method. IDK. I really dont like the 'history' method, theres better alternatives out there that dont require people having to go into an archive to see if they recognise someone. This problem definately needs a fix, but I dont think this is it. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Thank you for the feedback! I appreciate it :) While I see your point on potentially cringey names being seen after you've tried to bury them, I think that it is, to an extent, part of who you are on LD. I say don't be ashamed of what your name once was, I'm sure everyone has had their fair share of cringey names While yes, it may turn out to not be that person, it still would at least give you some clarity. Right now, if you didn't have their I.D, you're basically lost unless you do a good amount of digging. Name history completely clarifies things, and can possibly make things overall less confusing. Now I see your idea of a permanent name, but in all honesty, this is almost exactly the same as an I.D, and if you didn't memorize or write their I.D down (as I doubt most people do in a casual interaction), I doubt you'll have remembered their permanent name too. As with every site having their method, many sites I'm on either have a set name (no chance of changing this) or a name history in order to combat confusion Overall I completely get disagreeing, and I thank you again for sharing! Hopefully this can help improve my suggestion 2 players like this post! Like? |

If this was implemented i think it would be nice if it was like 'View Forum Posts' so the user can decide to have it on or off, that way if they decide they don't want their usernames known than no one will know. 0 players like this post! Like? |

''Now I see your idea of a permanent name, but in all honesty, this is almost exactly the same as an I.D, and if you didn't memorize or write their I.D down (as I doubt most people do in a casual interaction), I doubt you'll have remembered their permanent name too'' But somehow...you memorise the changey-part of their name, which is as visible as their permanent name and ID? IDs hare hard to remember because theyre a random gobble of numbers. If you go ''Hey, I cant find that sockwolf person, anyone know anything?'' and someone selse is like ''oh, sockwolf (sockington [I dont remember their number sorry])?'' pretty sure people will be more likely to remember the permanent name on some level. Im not sure how one would forget half of a name if Im being frank, especially if it gets implemented, because everyone will know the first name is completely changeable and people will take advantage of it. (usually my using the changable part as an ad thing or a joke thing). I have memory problems. Which is why I understand the need for a better way to tell who someone is. But I know from past experiences that just having a wall tower of former usernames is probably worse than not seeing anything. Im the kind of person who generally sticks to one single username, but Im also the kind to be friends with people who change weekly or even daily. I have a friend on tumblr who always messages me when they change and they try and have a theme with their icons because of this; I have another one who always keeps the same joke image so I always recognise them. I dont even remotely know who half the people I used to know there are. But seeing a archive of names wont help with how quickly some people change names. Youseem to be most focused on the ''people who did bad stuff'' part. And yeah, it'd be nice to know who they are, but scammers usually change wildly, multiple times a day, to weave around whatever problems they have. You want to have access to an archive that can be hundreds or more names to help you somehow? When instead you could just see its 'that twat jimmy who keeps scamming people' becasue its literally in their unique name? IDK. I just dont see a name archive being the helpful solution for this. when the biggest problem people will probably have massive archivesand be more of a bother than a help. I get the admins having a secret archive to help resolve disputes, but I do not see it as normal to give that access to any common player like that. ''If this was implemented i think it would be nice if it was like 'View Forum Posts' so the user can decide to have it on or off, that way if they decide they don't want their usernames known than no one will know.'' Wouldnt that defeat the point? Unless I read this wrong? Genuinely asking. I dont probably have more to say about this but its just a really weird solution thats I can only see being more of a bother. LIke I said though, the solution I had isnt the only one, theres probably more out there. Im too tired to think of any other ones, so I just mentioned the last one I was on on another site. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Thinking about what 13th Nightmare said, if you had the option to turn it off, then in a scamming situation (such as what Sockwolf mentioned earlier) they could just turn it off and you're in the same problem as before. 0 players like this post! Like? |

^^ alright, in response to that, I've come up with what could be a compromise? I've added it into my original 0 players like this post! Like? |

Perhaps, have a list of the most recent usernames going back a week. This way, it doesn't have to be turned off, doesn't create a massive list of all the usernames, and can link to a full list of past usernames that can be toggled off. For people with memory troubles, you can start to associate the new name with the old name so you aren't as confused. And if someone is constantly changing their name, it could be noticed and monitored to see if they are running a scam. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Hmm. No support from me. In the past, I've had to change names on all sites I've frequented because someone was actively harassing me and I didn't want this person to find me. I only told my friends about the name changes. Of course you can block someone, but that person can make a new account. 0 players like this post! Like? |

While I do understand the need for that (and am so sorry btw!), harassment should ALWAYS be reported on here. Usually, from what I've heard, the mods and admins are pretty quick to take care of such issues. Besides that, making a new account isn't quite as easy as you'd think. After two accounts have been made from one IP address, I believe it's blocked so it cannot be used again. Plus, if someone is specifically targeting you, chances are, they'll know your ID. More casual convos and interactions, won't really have ID checks. Overall, it's pretty hard to harass someone and get away with it easily on LD. Usually, the member will be banned before they even have the chance to think of creating another account. Just my thoughts on that 0 players like this post! Like? |

For me, it was a person I knew who knew my usernames on a few different sites but they hadn't joined those sites yet. We'd started out as friends, and I was telling them about opportunities for them to sell their art. The person had turned on me pretty quickly, and began messaging me on platforms that they hadn't used before after I blocked them on the places we usually talked. I know that this is going to be a rare thing, and it's something that should be reported, but I think plenty of people have legitimate reasons to hide their username history and their privacy should be respected. 0 players like this post!
