* Keep in mind this post was originally for toggling off larva encounters in explore. However, a bug repellent items was much more realistic.

Beetles are great, but I don't think every user is into them as much as others. Personally, I'm not at all interested in beetles and would much rather enjoy the game without them, and I know there are players out there who feel as indifferent about them as I do. Avoiding beetles is easy enough to do by simply not investing any time into them. However it's harder to get away when larva encounters in explore take up explore steps and interactions.

I wanted to propose Lioden introduce an item like Hyena Butter that temporarily turns off these encounters. I think this would make game-play for players like myself who don't like beetles or wasting explore steps much more enjoyable.

Tell me what you think! I'd love to hear.

No support to just "toggle off" - as Ive said on dozens of other topics suggesting a toggle off for beetles, they are a game feature. A full proper game feature just like any other - like finding toys in explore or finding enemies to fight or finding NCLs. There's no way to make a toggle off button for every thing people dont like seeing in explore, there are way too many things people dont want to see there. Ive seen topics asking for Toggle Off buttons for: Spider Encounter in October; Sad encounters in Poachers event; Encounters showing skulls; All encounters showing insects; Encounters showing blood and meat; Mating encounters during February; and the list can go on and on and on. There is NO way to make a toggle button for every little thing people dont like in explore, simply because there is unlimited supply of things people will want to block out.

I might support the idea of the bug repellent item, IF it is made the main idea of the topic and not just a toggle off. Bug repellent sounds a lot more feasible than toggle off button. After all, finding beetles is just like finding NCLs; if you want them, you claim them, but if you dont want them it's just an annoying explore step to find one. Same with beetles, they arent that much different from NCLs to need a whole separate toggle off button.

I think that, if you choose the "eat larvae", you have a chance of gaining a stat, at least I remember it being mentioned when beetles were first introduced. Cannot find it anywhere in the wiki, though. But you can always ignore it or eat it, or sell the larvae if you don't want to keep beetles.

The "bug repellent" is an interesting idea, though.

@Mad Hyena
You do have a point there. I mostly suggested this since beetles can exist to be their own separate entity within the game, if that makes any sense. It's a game feature, yes, but you don't have the option to opt out of it as you do with events. You listed a lot of other "toggle off" suggestions, and the thing they all have in common is that they're event encounter; we don't need a toggle off button for those things because we already HAVE toggle off button for them.

That being said, I do agree. A bug repellent items is a much more realistic option rather than a whole toggle on/off feature considering the larva encounters are explore features such as NCL encounters. I'll edit my main post when I get the chance to.

Thank you for the input!

@Berenos
That's true! But, I'm mostly looking for a way for users to opt out of beetles. Larva encounters take up explore steps and any stat gaining from eating larva has been abysmally low from my personal experience (low as in, never). So, to me, the cons outweigh the pros.

As I said above, I'll probably change the topic to lean for a bug repellent rather than a toggle off feature. :P

I think this is a very nice idea. I honestly dont like the idea of being able to toggle everything off, but this one encounter is indeed a part of the game.

I love this idea! I’ve suggested it before but deleted it since there wasn’t much interest. I have absolutely no use for beetles and it wastes my energy when I come across one.

Please give us the ability to not have to do beetle encounters, having larvae show up and waste steps when I'm looking for event encounters is mega annoying. A bug repellent would be a godsend!
