Hello, fellow Liodenners! I, like many of you, have been following the Iridescent debate with great interest, and after some consideration, I think I might have some suggestions that most of you might support. As I began to think about what Iridescent could mean for me, I decided that, while I think it would be disastrous as a color group, I think it would be great as a gradient as other players have suggested. To view the original two threads, click on these: Natanocte's Original Suggestion From Xy's News Post If you're like me and you've decided that Iridescent as a gradient is an intriguing idea, I'd like to propose that bases' gradients are sorted by the following simple criteria: * The base displays one color or the overall impression of one color with little to no shift in color = Solid, like Onyx * The base displays two colors that shift from one to another = Countershaded (perhaps we shorten it to "Shaded"?), like Fiery * The base displays three or more colors that shift from one to the next = Iridescent, like Nacre While I began the daunting task of sorting the existing bases, it quickly became apparent that this model needed filling out, and I realized that this could be a perfect opportunity to showcase the FABULOUS bases that have been suggested in our forums! As I thought a little more, I considered that it has been bothering me that the Golden and Cream shades have been needing some serious TLC for awhile now, and I'd seen, loved, and supported so many of these in the forums. I knew what I needed to do: I contacted each of these amazing artists for permission to place their bases into this chart to showcase them and prove how vibrant and wonderful this chart could be with them included! I also wanted to suggest moving a few bases whose placement didn't sit right with me, namely Bloodborne, which I'd love to see moved to Red/Dark/COUNTERSHADED/Special, Cairngorm, which would look better as Black/Light/COUNTERSHADED/Special, and the proposed Honey, which I see as a CREAM/Dark/Solid/Common, Mauve, which I see as a Red/Medium/Iridescent/Common, Cherry Blossom, which might be nice as a Red/Iridescent/Light/Special. With that said, here's what the color charts could look like if they were expanded to accommodate an Iridescent gradient, some lovely user-created bases, and a few placement readjustments. The bases with a heavy, black border and are represented with lionesses are user-created. * Eclipse, Silk, Charcoal, Cloud, Alabaster, Ocean, Ink, and Chiffon created by cake, #53239 * Fallen created by Natanocte, #61 * Velvet created by lex, #56485 * Mountain created by Cannibal Chaos, #18906 * Charcoal, Black Ice, and Snowflake created by kite, #3540 * Chiaroscuro, Cygnet and Grizzly created by Snowboa, #360 *Parmesan, Satin, Meringue, Lumber, Carob, Peanut, Shellac, Chalk, Feldspar, Granola, Magnolia, Sugar, Powder, Oyster, Peridot, and Porcelain created by cake, #53239 * Kavu, Zemvelo, and Asada created by Natanocte, #61 * Radiance created by Cannibal Chaos, #18906 * Andromeda and Astraios created by lex, #56485 * Red Dun, Mud, Smoky Cream, and Buckskin created by kite, #3540 * Barley, created by Snowboa, #360 * Maple, Soy, Embers, Pumpkin, and Cardinal created by cake, #53239 * Cranberry, Tafaha, Bewitched, and Imbe created by Natanocte, #61 * Pecan Pie and Himbasha created by Cannibal Chaos, #18906 * Firebrand, Red Fleabitten, and and Violet Liver created by kite, #3540 * Bloodwood, Rosewater, Rhubarb, and Padparadascha created by Snowboa, #360 *Dijon, Medallion, Honey, Flax, Citron, Walnut, Antique, Marigold, Canary, Dandelion, Corn, and Maize created by cake, #53239 *Damu, Ailurus, Dhahabi, Maziwa, Muzlala, Wahushi, Gilded, Mobola, Cervine, Anubian, Avarice, Frankincense, Sandstone, Ornament, Splendor, Asali, Caramelized, Marumaru, and Jackal created by Natanocte, #61 *Cunieform, Asida, and Mandasi created by Cannibal Chaos, #18906 * Orange Sherbet, Twilight, and Black Gold created by kite, #3540 * Toast created by Snowboa, #360 Do you love these user-suggested bases the way that I do? Let the dev's know by lending them support on their threads! NOTE: These are only my suggestions: I have NO IDEA if/where/when these bases might be released or placed in the chart! I know there's already been quite a bit of discussion about an Iridescent gradient, but I wanted to, in my own crude, computer-illiterate, old-person fashion, show what a chart like this might look like in its infancy, how beautifully it can be filled out with event and user-created bases, and how much room there is to grow! I'd love to hear from you all and don't forget to support these fantastic artists on their own threads and see these bases as they'd look in-game instead of my thumbnail pictures. Thanks to all of you who have contributed ideas, art, and time to this idea and for allowing me to run with it! |
