Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva, or Stone Man Syndrome, would make an interesting lethal mutation in my opinion!

What is FOP?
FOP is a disease where muscles are gradually replaced with bones, moving from the head downwards.

What is the first sign of FOP?
Those diagnosed with FOP often has difigured fingers/toes. (Or in this case, paws)

How would this affect the lions?
The lions would first seem normal. A major comcequence of FOP is the mouth and lungs being damage. Airways may close, or the mouth may lock shut/slightly open. It would become difficult to walk as the legs lock, and breath as the diaphragm fails. This would kill the cub.

How long would they live?
Adolescent, at most.

Is this a realistic time frame?
No, FOP can take much more than a few years to kill, but for the sake of Lioden I say we can make an acception.

What would the lions look like through the stages?

Newborn: Normal, maybe keep the jaw closed, disfigured paws.

Cub: Stiff position, pained expression

Adol: Laying on their side, eyes closed, mouth stuck shut. Legs, back, neck, and ears very stiff.

Adult: Would not survive to adulthood.

Birth message:
Your lioness gave birth to Cub. His paws seem a bit disfigured, but he still crawls for milk.

3 months:
Cub doesn’t open his mouth very wide. It’s almost like he can’t. Looks like they’re in a lot of pain.

5 months:
Cub doesn’t move around much, and when they try it’s just a waddle.

6 months:
Cub’s legs locked up. They can’t walk. Your lionesses bring food to them, and help feed them.

8 months:
Cub struggled to breath last night. Their chest barely moves. They can’t move their mouth anymore.

9 or 10 months:
Cub passed away due to breathing complications

From what I’ve seen, it has appeared in housecats, so it is safe to assume yes, yes it can.
