Animals have sadly been born without faces before, And they don't live for very long.

If this happened, It would not be much of a stretch for lions to be born with no face.

That's where my idea comes in.

It will die the rollover after birth no matter when it was born, Due to not being able to eat or breath.

Your lioness notices her cub. It had no eyes, No mouth, And no nose. Your lioness is revolted by the disturbing sight, But also worried about the poor things life. But there is still hope. It has its umbilical cord still.

Rollover after birth:

Cub died last night due to lethal facial deformities

The cub would just sorta lay there, Similar to the cyclopia pose. The cub, As said, Would lack any facial features.
