Horses of the fallen is what they call themselves. Once belonging to a native American tribe they now run without their companions.

A small tribe of Native Americans once rode across the fields of buffalo, calling it their home. They thrived on the land, never having the need to stray from their turf for any reason other than curiosity. The tribe was well known for their skill in the breeding of horses. They often traded their horses for resources with nearby allies. The gorgeous equine came in all colors, and their stamina was exceptional. They had the overall speed of any average horse, but it depended on the horse. Each horse was unique, most resembled that of a modern day quarter horse, appaloosa, or thoroughbred. Some were heavy built while others resembled that of a riding pony. No set conformation was ever given to them.

Everything thing changed when the new people came. Their skin was lighter than that of the tribe. They came and trashed the village stealing resources and horses. The surviving natives had no choice but to flee. The horses were scattered, panic stricken beasts fled in all directions. The tribe was lost, never to band together again.

Months went by, a few horses managed to form small bands, now living off pure instinct. Stallions fought for mares and dignity. Mares stayed loyal to the stallions they followed. The small bands were nothing like herds, they were mostly in groups of 5-7 horses, but numbers wavered. Now the horses live alone without human touch, their only goal is to stay alive and keep the future generations strong.

The natives in the tribe were gentle people, who deeply cared for their horses. They were very proud of the magnificent breed they had created. Their first horses were gifted to them by a different group light skinned people than the ones who had attacked them.

There were many different roles that the horses played in the people's lives. Hunting Horses were used for hunting, they were primarily used for buffalo runs. One buffalo could feed and clothe almost a half of the whole village, so the runs weren't that often. This made the hunting horses all the more fiery, always eager to sprint their heart out when being ridden. The fastest horses made the best hunting horses. When a buffalo is killed each hunt horse who participated in the successful run is given the print of the buffalo on their back in the native's paint. By default each hunting horse is given a painted arrow symbol on their neck, this makes it easier for every native to know what horse has which job. War Horses were also highly important in the tribe. These horses were the strongest and the largest, often heavy built horses. They were used on border patrols, which were usually only done to chase off wolves and the occasional bear rather than rival tribes , and war. War was extremely uncommon, most patrol horses never lived to be in one, nor did they dream of it. These horses went on patrols far more often than Hunting horses went on runs, so they are not as eager and fiery under seat. This makes them much easier to control than hunting horses. Each war horse gains a painted hand print, anywhere on their body, for each hostile human or animal chased away while on patrol. Every war horse has a painted circle drawn around their eye. The chief's horse is the second to most prized horse in the tribe, at least to the humans. This horse is ridden by the chief anywhere and everywhere. It's important that the chief's horse be well behaved and respectful of the chief, often this is a one rider horse. Getting frustrated by other riders, making the horse nearly impossible to steal. This horse always has 3 stripes of paint banded around all four legs, and 3 stripes across it's nose. The Shaman's Horse is easily the most important horse in the tribe. This horse is owned by the shaman and was always ridden fully tackless by the shaman. They were used for therapy, collecting herbs, and watching over the shaman. They were specifically trained to run to the shaman at the sound of a whistle. This horse is always paintless, out of respect. No other native may touch the horse without the shaman's permission. Every native is familiar with the shaman's horse. Game / Pleasure Horses were used for everyday transportation. but even more interestingly, they were also used for the races the Natives held. Sometimes they even invited other friendly tribes to compete in the games. There would be all sorts of racing as well as bucking broncos (Green horses), sharing of taming tips and tricks, trading, breeding with other tribe's successful horses, and more. These horses ranged from tiny slow ponies to huge fiery beasts, they were all unique. Some of the more gentle pleasure horses were even used for teaching young tribe members the basics of riding and taming. Personal Horses were horses who were gifted to specific natives by the chief or the breeder. They were used for anything the owner intended to use them for, they had no specific paint or jobs. The natives usually could recognize which horses belonged to who, so there was no need to worry about them being used for something they weren't used to. Green Horses are untrained horses usually under the age of two. Their roles are decided when they are being trained, according to their personality under seat.

All the natives knew that caring for horses was not a joke, they were very, very important to the tribe. Overworking the horses was always a concern of the natives. The hunting horses, war horses, and game horses were all on a seasonal schedule. In the winter and autumn seasons half of all the horses (Best suited for working in those seasons) come to the camp to be used. When Spring comes the native people bring in the spring and summer horses and release the horses that had worked in the cold months until next year. Green horses are turned out year round until it comes time for them to be trained. Personal horses are turned out or not, depending on the owner's preference. The chief's horse and the shaman's horse stay at the camp year round.

Would it be possible to reserve the role of the Southern Band's heir? I'm going to start working on a sheet asap. I could possibly take on a few more roles as well, if needed, but I think I'll just start with one to feel things out.

I had to fight with my html a bit (I swear, it's my arch-nemesis), but I'm certain I've managed to get my links to work now. I thought I'd changed the second one to link to the original page, but I guess I hadn't.

I'm definitely excited about my pretty boy! I'm kind of thinking about bringing Nimbus back to use as a character and a plot device for whatever story I end up building for Havik, but I'm not really sure yet. It would depend on how much interest there'd be in another homoromantic male character, lol.

Mind if I reserve the Band Leader for the Northern Band? I'll also be making a Follower for the Southern Band.

Put up a skeleton of a form. I need to get some sleep now, so I'll finish it tomorrow (and probably get started on my other character as well).

Hey! I noticed that I didn't really talk much about the tribe itself and the roles the horses played before they were chased off, so I'm going to be adding a Tribe info section to the thread very soon!

I'm going to work on a second and possibly third character while I'm waiting for everyone else to finish, if that's alright. One stallion because I found amazing stock for a sooty palomino overo stud and I couldn't resist, and one mare because it really looks like we could use more of them.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up adding both of them, but I want to have most of the info down before I submit them. I'm not quite sure which band I'd like to put each of them in; I was thinking Northern for the mare and Southern for the stallion. They've already got names and I did find great stock for the mare (the stallion is being called Caladium, and the mare is Chenoa), and I've got ideas for their personalities, though I'm still thinking about their bios. I probably won't write up anything until I know more about the Native tribe, but I'm already pretty attached to them.
