I had a quick browse over these again last night, and I noticed a common denominator in the types of marks present. I.e, a king with two ebony feline marks bred to a lioness with no marks, or a pairing where the sire had a feline mark, and the mother had a feline mark.

Perhaps it is something to do with the presence and number of type of marks required. Most instances the rosettes appear alongside lions who have under-type marks, such as Marbled Unders, Inverted type markings. Not in every instance, but more often than not if it is not the same marking type, it is something similar or something within the same color category as the other parent.

I'll do some scrying stuff later when I have a spare minute, anyone else is welcome to test this theory on my behalf in the meantime ;P I did a quick scry with ebony feline marks paired with white marbled unders, and got an Inverted Rosette within 20 results, but didn't have time to investigate further.

@Snowcat maybe the colors are random. I watched those parents and the only slight of a clue I got is that one of her grandparents has the unholy brindle marking (unholy as a base falls under red bases) otherwise I didn't find a clue of why the rosette is red sadly X'D even considered skin colors once but they are black and tan so it doesn't make sense

I looked through some of the recent EHR cubs in search. Some of the parents have other marks that were suspects in the thread before, but most have at least 2 feline marks combined so far.

Slot 2: Ebony Heavy Rosette (42%) Both parents have a Feline Onyx.
Slot 7: Ebony Heavy Rosette (53%) Father has 3 Feline Onyx marks. Mother has 2 Under White marks.
Slot 8: Ebony Heavy Rosette (65%) Mother has a Feline Ebony and Feline Onyx mark. But so does the cub so idk. x)
Slot 10: Ebony Heavy Rosette (34%) Mother has Under White marking. Father has 2 Feline Onyx marks.
Slot 9: Ebony Heavy Rosette (55%) Mother has Feline Onyx. Father has Feline 7 White.
Slot 5: Ebony Heavy Rosette (36%) Father has Chatoyant and Ardor Feline.
Slot 10: Ebony Heavy Rosette (60%) Mother has under golden 5 as her only mark. Father has a Feline Onyx mark.
Slot 6: Ebony Heavy Rosette (52%) Mother has Feline 6 Onyx. Father has feline 7 white.
Slot 2: Ebony Heavy Rosette (87%) Father has White Feline Unders. Mother has Sunset Siamese.

I was going to scry a bit, but kept losing track of how many times I had done it. :,D So hope this helps, maybe? Even if it is a small group. xP

Huge help, Kit! I think I'll jog through some existing rosette children and see if I can find any parents that don't have any markings that are the same, then separate them out with which are similar, and which (if any) appear completely unrelated. Might help to rule out some possibilities, at least :D

Did a quick 25x scry with the above ID'd adol and a lion with Onyx Cheetah Heavy, popped a ginger rosette (soft or heavy, don't remember sorry) on the second scry.

So I did a quick 25x with the same lioness, except the markingless sire.

Lioness has the following markings:

Slot 1: Onyx Back Hair (27%)
Slot 5: Feline 4 Onyx (32%)
Slot 7: Feline 7 Onyx (44%)

On the 24th scry it popped regular Ginger Rosette.

Nothing definitive, but results look promising :D
I shall continue this later this afternoon, I just need to go to town.

Edit to add-I'm off to work now but I am wondering if skin color might affect the rosette color. The only red or brown in either of my 2 parents are in their skin. When I get back I'm going to check on some reds and doubloons to see if there were red or brown skin. Maybe the markings (feline) trigger the rosette, but the skin affects what color it is? Hmmmmm

Onyx Soft Rosette that was posted in chat.

Neither parent has double feline (with the father having F7W, but the cub also has it.)

Mother has Under White 4. Father has Unholy Soft Unders, Cherry Undershine, Fiery Bottom.



Assuming that the marks that trigger it can't show up on the cub it could be UW4 + Unholy Soft Unders.
There's also the Onyx Panther.

Edit: I know it's just a coincidence buuut. Unholy Soft Unders. Onyx Panther. Onyx Soft Rosette?

Feline 7 will be the trigger, alongside Under White 4 in that instance, in my opinion. Pretty sure Feline is one of the triggering marks; and Feline + Feline will work; alternatively Feline + Unders; and another combination + unders.
