My king is very old. I've come back from a long hiatus (about 2 years!) to find that my male had just turned 15. I have 11 days to replace him, and naturally I have no idea what are the wanted markings and bases right now.

So! I have two options: Either I find a stat replace and keep appearance as it is, OR I find myself a decent stat and more modern marked new male. I'm currently having a problem with the latter, so I'd like your help with the former.

This is my male: Here
he has:
Base Prune (Burnt Skin)
Eyes Green
Mane Type Sideburn
Mane Color Hallowed

Slot 1: Onyx Siamese (100%)
Slot 2: White Undershine (100%)
Slot 3: Black Panther (50%)
Slot 4: Fiery Belly (100%)
Slot 5: Onyx Domino (61%)!
Slot 7: Onyx Coat (52%)
Slot 8: Onyx Panther (48%)
Slot 9: Vitiligo 1 (51%)

How much is he worth as a breeder/stud? Is it worth keeping him and stat replacing him to 2000+ 3000+ stats?

Thank you

Trends and such have changed so much in the last couple of years, and I’m not really sure how much return you’d get on stat repping your current king, in terms of studding interest. The stud market is flooded right now, including with high-ish stats, because Leaderboard kings are so high now. So there’s a lot of competition, and tbh the base and markings you have aren’t really sought after as much now.

Honestly, I think I would definitely find an appearance + stat replacer, if possible. Or if budget is an issue then maybe just a new appearance and then work on building stats afterwards. I think overall appearance is generally more likely to affect whether you get stud requests than stats, unless they’re really terrible. Most people tend to replace for appearance and then if necessary stat or mutie replace separately afterwards, if that’s affordable, because lions that are the whole package are pretty rare and incredibly expensive.

But of course it’s entirely up to you - the main thing is to have a king you personally like, after all :) And welcome back, by the way!

Thank you :)
I was leaning towards an overall replacement myself, but its so hard to tell what markings and base I should search. there are so MANY, and I have no idea what the trends are. I've been looking at boards but except the obvious trend, which is mutations if at all possible, I cant pin down what bases and markings are popular, which bases and markings are rare and thus should be valuable.... And this things about 'clean' breeding was also non existent when I was last here... I wish there was a guide or something.

I don’t do the clean breeding thing myself, so I can’t help much with that I’m afraid. But I’m not sure it will increase a stud's value that much...if anything I’d say it probably just slightly expands your circle of people who might be interested in him. But stats and clean breeding don’t always go together because of the nature of stat breeding, so it would tend to be one or the other.

July bases like sunset tend to be popular and remain somewhat in demand because they’re breed only. But of course even sunset has become relatively common now since it was last year's release. Anything brand new this month of course will be in high demand for a while, but also pretty expensive to get hold of.

Otherwise bases that are hardest to breed/get hold of are generally always sought after because to some extent the rarity equates to value. So expensive app bases like fuchsia, trophy, and especially interstellar. Or some combo bases, which can only be bred from certain parents' bases - newer ones like whatever just was announced in the July news post, and even soul, gilded, hellebore maybe?? Any with an app that is easily accessible or cheap tend not to be as popular, and overall I’d say most people still lean towards red or black group bases, rather than golden or cream (though there are definitely exceptions, and I certainly wouldn’t write off golden/cream altogether).

As for markings, rosettes are still popular-ish to some extent - mottled always seems to be anyway. Plus particularly the new soft and heavy rosettes. And sunset markings are bound to be popular when we unlock that app this month too, I would imagine. Otherwise god knows...with markings your guess is probably as good as mine. It’s hard to keep up with! Breed-only is always good, ofc. Mainly just more is better - at least up to the ordinary 10 slots. Beyond that is debateable, because it gets expensive to keep having to pay to reveal hidden markings in slots 11+.

This is all just off the top of my head though. Only my opinion, and I’m sure I’ve not thought of a load of things! If I were you though I’d just take a few days to browse forum threads and the TC, and to poke around other people’s studs to see what is selling. You can hopefully get a feel that way for things that are priced high and are getting a lot of interest or bids :)

Wow, thank you for the thorough explanation :) Actually, I do lean towards the red/black groups myself. I've noticed that as a general rule, countershaded and special bases tend to be more wanted, but I still have to look into the the coat-breeding mechanisms. That's going to be my next step. Thank you again!!

Yw!

I know I certainly prefer countershaded myself, but I’m not sure overall. A lot of the newer solids don’t necessarily look solid, which makes it even more difficult! Special bases definitely yes though.

I'd thoroughly recommend the wiki for info on breeding, bases, genetics, just about anything in fact. It’s usually pretty up to date, and covers most things. Good luck, and I hope you manage to find your dream king :)
