After looking at the various piebalds, I was inspired to make a lion that looked like my childhood cat - who was a tricolor piebald. Naturally, we don't have ANY form of asymetrical patch markings, so that didn't work at all. Anyways, I thought I'd suggest some. EDIT: This wouldn't conflict with piebalds! This would work AWESOMELY with them and make tortie piebalds! This image is just the basic idea, of course. The idea would be that the two halves of the lion's face especially) would look completely different. POPULAR IDEA FROM COMMENTS: Keep all the markings to one color to stop the whole universe from turning to polkadotted freak shows. Less popular idea: You could also get a LOT of bang for your buck and make each of these be a SEPERATE marking - Asymmetrical Patches (Face) (Flank) (Forepaw) (Ear) (Back) (Tail) (Paw). (I'm not personally fond of this idea either) Different idea: Make a mutation that is "tortie patches" so you get the tri color effect but you keep it very rare. (not as fond of this, as I like the idea of patches that can have markings over them) If you don't like the idea, please say why! Lion Torties! <3 YAY! |

I'd like to see this to be one marking -- Support, though. It's a cool concept! 0 players like this post! Like? |

Really cute! Kinda reminds me of my black and white House cat! He has patches kind of like that too. Even though it works as an awesome marking, would be a really cute marking to get on a cubbin or heir 0 players like this post! Like? I'd love it as all one mark or even as a type of patches/piebald. Supported. 0 players like this post! Like? |

I like it but only if it were a type of patches rather than a marking. Having it be a marking is just too much freedom unless it's very hard to pass like mottled rosette. Plus it's called asymmetrical patches so having it be a type of matches is only fitting. Other than that I love it! It would look great on posed lions since it doesn't cover way too much of either side also. But if it were a mutation I think it would be awesome since it's another more realistic looking patches versus all the new pies and patches we just got (those ones still are really awesome tho) to balance it out again some more on the realistic fantasy theme. 0 players like this post! My reasoning for not having "just another piebald/patches" mutation is so we can have this marking combine with a mutation, and end up with tricolor patched lions. Unless the new patching was a two-color mutation (always possible, I suppose). This being a marking over a mutation would allow the marking patches to end up with texture, which is something that is currently lacking in the mutation patches. My own tortie had tabby markings over her patching. https://usercontent1.hubstatic.com/13970248_f520.jpg <-- a tortie with tabby markings. And I said tier 3 or higher to make it rare. It shouldn't show up anywhere less than an event marking, and even more rare for special colors. Definately not a "everyone get a tortie" out of NCLs or something like that. 0 players like this post! Yes but it makes more sense for it to be a mutation considering it's big patches all over the body not just smaller spotting like the cheetah and rosette marks or limited to one general area like feline one which is similar to a big patch. Especially because you can make a cat similar to the picture you linked with the markings we already have in game, under white markings and different color feline markings all layered together which would achieve the texture effect without it being covered by a piebald or patches. And tier 3 markings do actually pass some what easily so they should be at least tier 5 since tier 3 is still somewhat common if it is a marking but a mutation just makes more sense to me. I like the idea but it would pass too easily as a marking especially with breeding items where if it were a mutation it would be a bit harder. Or it could be a combo marking like how a real calico requires either a calico/tortishell mother or one parent to be red and the other black to breed a tortishell and the same colors but with white spotting to make a calico. A calico muation would also be pretty cool as red, black, and white patches all over the body similar to how achromia and melanism cover everything where the less white the more mixed the red and black are like real tri-color cats. Or even just tabby patches mutation similar to the piebald mutation but with the tabby pattern rather than solid colors black and white. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Instead of calling it ‘patches’ if you wanted it to be a marking, could you call it... like... Asymmetriclal Stain [color]? Or just [Color] Blemish? That way we could keep a defined line between mutation naming and marking naming. We do, also, already have a ‘patch’ or ‘patches’ marking iirc 0 players like this post! Like? |

i second that idea instead of it being called patches if it is a marking stain sounds nice. but a tabby patches mutation still sounds cool to me the more i think about it lmao. 0 players like this post! Like? |

With as rare as the multicolor spotting/carving markings are, perhaps a few options are possible? Maybe you could have your multi-location markings, like some people have suggested. Maybe you could have one marking, then multi-location markings. Maybe you could have it split into mane and body morphs. But since Patches is a mutation, perhaps Stain or something along those lines is a better idea? I do agree, this should not be added as a piebald/patches variant. It's just fine as a marking. 0 players like this post! Like? |
