background: born into a wealthy, honored family in hagi, japan, hatsumomo was not the first of her bloodline to be a kitsune. hatsumomo was raised in a traditional, old-fashioned house with parents the same way. her mother, from long line of geisha, began to teach her from a young age how to carry on that tradition. when she was 13 years of age, hatsumomo and her family moved into america, where they also became successful and wealthy. it was rather difficult for hatsumomo and her mother to withdraw from the long line of geisha they belonged to, but they eventually had to to avoid stares and ridicule. at the age of 14, hatsumomo engaged in the world of witchcraft but, nevertheless, identifying herself as buddhist. at age 15, hatsumomo convinced both herself and her mother to continue to be geisha as they had been in hagi. however, hatsumomo has dropped some of the traits of a geisha— she neither paints her face, nor does she wear much makeup.

other: hatsumomo is an exquisite, fair-skinned japanese girl with smooth, glossy black hair in a sakko-like style. side-swept bangs swipe over the right side of her forehead. curly tendrils of hair are nestled in front of both human ears. she also has strange, startling blue-grey eyes with slightly thick eyelashes. black fox ears are settled on the top of her head, as well as normal ears in normal locations. her head is shaped like a rounded teardrop, and her lips are heart-shaped. her body is shaped like an slender, thin hourglass with a thin waist and long legs. her fingers are long and dainty. nine glossy, black-furred fox tails emerge from her waist, which seem to have an iridescent blue glaze over them. her face, unlike other geisha, is unpainted and left as it's natural pale tone.

she is often seen wearing onyx-black kimono with blue-black flower patterns near the hem, sleeves, and waist. this kimono also has celestial-like speckles scattered around the lower half of the kimono. the skirts are about as long as her mid-thigh, and the sleeves are long and draping. the hems of the skirts are white and ruffled. to top off the kimono, a long, celestial-colored, ribbon-like obi stretches across from under the chest to the waistline. it is tied into a bow in the back, with a silver bell in the bow's center. hatsumomo wears knee-high white socks with black bows to finish the look, as well as black flats.

hatsumomo's personality, to start with, is very humble and quiet. she is observant and antisocial, and does have a tendency to get anxious. she uses respectful, traditional mannerisms and is very polite to other people. hatsumomo is very empathetic— to the point where she will take other people's pain onto her own. she tends to cry very easily, taking everything too literally. this makes her very vulnerable to insults and pain. she does not have confidence, and needs assurance from others to feel a bit more secure. hatsumomo is also a born pessimist, and find it difficult to look at the bright side of things.
