What gameplay feature is this bug affecting?

What's the issue? Please include any error messages you receive and as much detail as possible.
I have a Snake Scent active and exploring the Waterhole level. I have spend 2 energy bars bars, 1 on daytime and 1 on nighttime and the npc that the quest snake is asking me to kill hasnt shown up even once. The quest animal is the Great White Shark. I havent encountered this problem with any other animal before so I'm thinking it got something to do with this specific npc/ quest.

Any links relating to this bug? For example, if a particular lion is bugging, what is the link to that lion?

Please provide us with step by step explanation how this bug happened so we can attempt to replicate it. If it's complex, please include screenshots where possible:
Got the quest from the snake, proceeded to apply the snake scent and started exploring. 2 energy bars later not a single Great White. When I do this quest with other animals I have at least 3 appearing in each bar (all while losing energy by battling the said animals)
