A Guide to Mass Breeding |
---|
Mass breeding is a common practice here on a Lioden for helping people reach a certain goal. This goal can be a variety of things, and some will be listed below. This guide is for those that are looking to get into mass breeding. Including why you might want to, common goals, and a few ways to do it. Of course if you have any questions, feel free to reply to this thread or pm me!
What is Mass breeding? |
---|
Mass breeding is the practice of breeding a ton of lionesses at one time to attain a certain goal
|
Common Goals |
---|
Mutations
The most common mutation people breed for are actually hybrids. Specifically first gen hybrids. Many have had luck with breeding at least one or two hybrids while mass breeding. Others will breed to pass on their king's piebald, other variations of primals from the one their king has, or for lethals. Of course people breed for any mutations, and typically will specifically collect CRBed NCLs or apply CRBs themselves
Markings
Rare/desirable markings are probably the second most common reason someone will massbreed. Usually these are rosettes or mottled stripes, as they can be quite valuable on the market. Many breed to get multiple rosettes on one lion. Another reason is trying to attain a certain marking in each slot, such as having multiple vitiligos on one lion.
Bases
This definitely up there with markings, as people will mass breed to get combo bases or try and pass nearly impossible-to-pass bases such as Mandarin. These are to try and get more on the market, or just more lions with that particular base
Stats
I haven't seen as many of these kinds of goals, but some people breed high stat lions to get more high stat lions on the market
SB/GB
This one can pretty much go into any of the above, as you can sell the cubs for fodder, or for those rare factors that come out of them.
|
Getting Started |
---|
Step One
Set a Goal
The ones listed above aren't the only goals, and you're free to do anything you'd like. But you should have some direction in mind.
General mass breeding for any mutation is going to probably be less expensive if your just breeding your king to a bunch of NCLs.
You'll also need to think about if your king doesn't fit your goal, how much you're going to be willing to spend on studs
Another cost factor is if you're going to use any breeding items, such as CRBs.
Setting out with a plan will help determine what you need to do, purchase, and gathering those materials before starting to collect lionesses.
Lastly you'll want to consider what you're going to do with the cubs. Are you going to chase, give them away, or sell?
If selling, you'll want to figure out how much you're going to charge for the fails, and how much for the successes. You can use this pricing guide to help you price check your lions. For fodder lions, I personally price at 10sb per 100 stats unless they have a base that goes for more (such as ebony)
Step Two
Collect Materials
You might skip this step if you're just doing general mass breeding like we talked about already
If you're going to be using any breeding items, it'll be smart to stock up on them during events they're offered on, or saving all the SB/GB you can for purchasing the items
If you plan to use studs, it would be smart to find and collect a list of active king's with the base/markings/mutation that you want to breed for
Consider purchasing Feed All/Play All and Autonesting, this will massively lesson your need for supplies, and is definitely worth it if you're breeding daily and hundreds of lions at a time
Step Three
Collect Lionesses
Gather all the lionesses you can for your intended project. Many people sell in heat NCLs on TC, and that is a great place to start for general mass breeding, such as for breeding ANY mutation or trying to pass a piebald
You can also just go on a mass claiming spree in explore. You should definitely use catnip so you can maximize your exploring and how many successful claims you can get in smaller amounts of time
NCLs are an easy start for general goals. However if you're looking to pass certain bases, you'll want to stick with the same base, the other factor bases, or bases with exact same genetics
If you're looking for a specific base then TC will be your best friend. You'll want to check frequently, every few hours and every day as TC is constantly having lions being sold and going for sale. Be sure to bookmark the page once you have the search presets entered for easier searching
Keep an eye on common pricing, and offer on lions that may be overpriced with those average prices. Some people might not have any idea what to price a lion, so offering might get you more lions
Step Four
Breed, Breed, Breed
Pretty self explanatory, breed all your collected lionesses
Step Five
Weeding the Crop
Set a standard for what you're looking for and then weed out the ones that don't fit that standard. To prevent being overrun with cubs, be sure to have a perfect standard, and don't keep every cub that kind of comes close to it, but not exactly
Step Six
Breed, Rinse, Repeat
Have an end goal in mind! When do you stop? Otherwise you'll get burnt out, and potentially just stop playing because it becomes a chore. This is why you should get a plan going, have the supplies all ready, so you're not floundering and it becomes a chore to breed
|
Potential Supplies |
---|
So we've talked about planning, lets go over some potential supplies you'll need
-- Feed All/Play All
-- Auto-Nesting
-- NCLs, Lionesses, Cubs (to raise to breed)
-- SB/GB
-- Breeding Items such as Red Cocks, Grain of Paradise, Buffalo Balls, Lion Balls, CRBs, GMO Cows, etc
-- Studs/Reverse Studs
-- Research for selling
-- Research on genetics

End Notes |
---|
Mass breeding can be very rewarding and I hope this guide helps! If you have any tips and tricks, definitely comment them! Have a great day!
