Queen Shanari was King Atieno's first mate. As Queen, she ruled the Pride in the King's absence, whether he was off patrolling, exploring far and wide, or challenging other prides in battle. King Atieno trusted her with his life, and she trusted him with hers. Because of her devotion to her mate, she created the law that the Queen of the Pride may only mate with the King, and no other outside males. She focused on teaching the young about the world around them, and she helped them understand the roles they would take in the Pride once they grew up. She worked tirelessly to ensure that everyone was understanding and kind to one another, and she was often the peacekeeper in any petty or serious arguments. As Queen, she reared many cubs, including the King's favorite daughter, Princess Chiku.



Prince Tambo - The Firstborn - Captain of the Guardians
Son of Atieno and Shanari


Tambo was the firstborn son of Atieno and Shanari. As the firstborn, he should have become the heir to the Pride. However, there was a shadow in him that made his father reconsider his birthright. Though he was strong and fierce in battle, he lacked the patience and care that King Atieno felt was needed for the Pride to flourish. Tambo was often exceedingly arrogant, believing himself to be the best fighter, the best hunter, and the best of just about anything else one could think of. Once, after his father berated him for seriously injuring one of the younger males in a sparring match, Tambo challenged his own father to a duel. His father agreed, and they battled it out for several hours before Tambo finally, begrudgingly and bloody, admitted defeat at his father's paws. After that fateful night, some of the arrogant spark seemed to go out of him, and his father appointed him the captain of the Pride's warriors, the Guardians. However, his father still chose another heir, fearing Tambo's arrogance would return in due time.

Prince Ayo - The Secondborn - The First Healer
Son of Atieno and Vitani


Prince Ayo was the secondborn son of King Atieno, but the fates would not have him become the heir either. Though he was kinder than his brother, he lacked the fierceness that Atieno wanted in his heir. Prince Ayo took a great interest in the natural world outside the safety of the Pride's caves, and as a cub, he was often found rummaging through various plants and leaves he had collected. Once he got a little older and it was clear he was in no position to become a great warrior, his father prompted him to seek out another pride, to see if they had a healer he could learn from. The Pride had no lions with any great healing skills, and after a particularly fierce skirmish on the borders of the Pride's territory, King Atieno felt that his second son would be better fit as a healer anyway. Ayo journeyed through the mountains and found his teacher, an old wizened lioness named Leya that lived in solitude in a slate rock cave, near a waterfall. She was thin and frail, and because she was reaching her older years, she could no longer hunt for herself. Ayo agreed to stay and provide for her until her death, if she would teach him everything she knew about medicine. She agreed, and Ayo brought his knowledge back to the Pride after she passed away a few years later. Once Ayo returned to the Pride, he chose the young lioness Bezuri as his healing apprentice.

Princess Chiku - The Favorite Daughter
Daughter of Atieno and Shanari


Princess Chiku was Atieno's favorite daughter, and his second cub by Queen Shanari. Her lazy attitude made most of the pride members cluck with derision, but Atieno found it endearing. Her mother soon grew tired of it, and had Chiku study religiously under Vitani and her older brother, Tambo. Soon enough, the Princess discovered she had a knack for hunting as well as guarding the pride, and she became a fierce warrior. She saved her brothers on numerous occasions from much larger lions than she was, much to their chagrin, though they did actually appreciate her skills in battle. Atieno was extremely proud of his daughter, and he made sure she had a high rank in the Pride, right below Vitani. After Vitani's death, Chiku took over as the new Huntress. Though she was young, she had plenty of experience, and the Pride's hunters flourished.

Vitani - The First Huntress


Vitani was the First Huntress, and she developed the hunting techniques needed for the Pride to find prey in a variety of different settings and situations. She helped teach the younger female lionesses how to hunt for themselves and for the Pride. Vitani felt that the Pride only lived on by what their stomachs held, so she led several hunting parties every day, and she almost always came back with prey clamped in her jaws for hungry little ones. She was King Atieno's second mate, and she provided him with his favorite son, Prince Ayo.

Sauda - The First Broodmother


Sauda was the First Broodmother of the Pride. She protected and raised a multitude of cubs, some of which stayed with the Pride, and some of which have since followed their own paths elsewhere. Though the raising of cubs takes the whole Pride, as the saying goes, Sauda was often the sole provider for them when they were just born. Choosing to stay at the den with the cubs her whole life, she never went on a hunt. She was fulfilled in her position in the Pride, and once fought off four male lions who had invaded the territory in the middle of a particularly horrible drought, seeking food and shelter. With several mewling cubs shaking behind her, she attacked the rouge males and drove them away from the Silver Rock, by herself. She was King Atieno's third mate, and she provided him with his third daughter, Kakena.

Queen Siti was the mate of King Mohatu. She had a joyful nature, and was well-liked by all the lions in the Pride. She was not so adept at hunting, but she did enjoy babysitting cubs and organizing hunting parties and patrols for the Pride. She could usually be found hanging out under The Silver Rock in the shade, giving rudimentary hunting lessons to any cubs who would listen.



Prince Mosi - The Oldest Son - Captain of the Guardians
Son of Mohatu and Hedone


Prince Mosi was the firstborn son of King Mohatu and the lioness Hedone. As firstborn son, he was given the right to choose to become Captain of the Guards. He decided to accept this honor, despite not being the son of the Queen. Even though this was true, he is still an heir to the throne and his humble nature ensures that he is a fair Captain and submale.


Healer Bezuri - The Second Healer
Daughter of King Lyapo and Lioness Berendi


Bezuri was the bastard daughter of past King Atieno's pride. She was the daughter of the lioness Berendi. Because of this, she became isolated from the other cubs her age, and even some of the adults seemed to scorn her. Because she was so often alone, she became more quiet and reserved, though she still cared about others. When Healer Ayo returned to the Pride, he took her under his wing and trained her as a healer. She quickly excelled in her position, and the other lions soon accepted her as part of the Pride. Her curious nature helped her discover new healing techniques, which she passed down to her apprentice.

Zuri - The Huntress


Zuri overtook the Lead Huntress position after Vitani. She was the daughter of Marijani (a mate of King Atieno) and a rouge Primal male. Her romantic nature made her popular with everyone, as she was likable and not too serious. However, she did take her duties as Lead Huntress very seriously, and she did her duty well.

Selene - The Mutated Broodmother


Selene was adopted by the pride after being found abandoned. After she grew up, it was clear that she was a very special lioness. Something in her genes made her fur longer and a little shaggy, like a male's. Though she is a different than the other lionesses, the pride learned to accept her and she became the Head Broodmother after she was revealed to be very good with cubs.

King Info
Ashkir was born with patches of white, splotchy fur. He inherited this from his father, who was a bachelor male when Princess Sapela met him on the outskirts of the Pride's territory. She soon fell pregnant and had Ashkir. Growing up, Ashkir was surrounded by cousins, aunts, uncles, half-brothers and sisters, as well as Saorise, an adopted lioness from another far-off pride. The Pride was large and learned to lean on one another through hard times. Soon, Ashkir became interested in what his grandfather's role was in the Pride, and from a young age he was Mohatu's apprentice and walked in his pawsteps. Ashkir one day happened upon an invading male lion who was attacking Saorise and had her pinned in a dry gulch. Ashkir had a choice to make - did he engage with the invader and possibly get himself AND Saorise killed? Or did he run for help and possibly be too late to save her? In an instant, at the thought of her being killed while he ran in the opposite direction (even if it was for help) he made his decision. Ashkir, despite being a lot smaller and a lot younger, leapt into action and killed the invader with the fierceness of, well, a lion. Ashkir was naturally the next selection as heir to The Silver Rock Pride as he had proven himself. Like his grandfather before him, Ashkir has a chivalrous personality and acts with honor in all that he does.


Queen Saorise - The Firey

Queen Saorise came into the Pride as an adolescent after losing her familial Pride to a strange wasting sickness. She left her Pride's territory after her family was gone, and wandered for weeks in the blazing sun before collapsing at a waterhole, too weak to even lift her head. She was bone-thin, weary, and nearly starved to death. With the help of the Healer Bezuri (and her apprentice Havlin) she was able to survive. Fiercely independent, she rarely relies on her pridemates to assist her and normally quick to be snide. It took growing very close to Ashkir as teenagers and an incident where he saved her from an invading male lion to make her realize that maybe she needed to rely on someone other than herself. When Ashkir became King after his grandfather, he asked her to be his Queen, and she agreed. Now, she acts as a hunter in the Pride and helps to feed her newfound family. She and King Ashkir have one cub, Prince Makembe, who has assumed the role of Commander of the Guardians.



Prince Makembe - Commander of the Guardians
Son of King Ashkir and Queen Saorise

Prince Makembe is the firstborn son of King Ashkir and Queen Saorise. He has merciful personality, and is a lot like his father. As a cub, he studied under Prince Mosi, his Great Uncle. Mosi trained Makembe in the art of war, as well as the art of mercy. In one particular instance, an invading group of hyenas made off with some young lion cubs and intended to hold them hostage until King Ashkir bequeathed the waterhole to them, entire. The Guardians had to track them down, and found that the hyenas were acting out of desperation for their own starving cubs. Upon seeing this, Makembe begged his father King Ashkir and Prince Mosi for mercy, and the hyenas and their cubs were spared. An arrangement was made that satisfied both the hyena pack and the Pride, and Makembe was credited with this.


Healer Havlin - The Third Healer
Daughter of King Ashkir and Lioness Elfin

Havlin is the third healer of the Silver Rock Pride. She is the daughter of King Ashkir and Elfin, and she inherited her father's piebald fur. She was often teased by the other cubs when they were little because of her white fur, despite being the King's daughter. Since she was not directly in line to become his heir, she wasn't treated like her half-brothers and sisters. They accused her of being a terrible hunter because her flash of fur would give away her presence to prey. She was often left behind at the den while the other cubs were training because she would be a distraction to prey. She found herself at the Healer's den often, and Bezuri (perhaps relating to the little cub with white splotches of fur) took her in as her own and began training her as a healing apprentice.

Amelie - The Primal Huntress


Amelie is a Primal lioness who became the Lead Huntress after a particularly rough dry season. Several cubs were starving, and she took a band of lionesses deep into wild dog territory to hunt for food. After a rough battle, she and the other lionesses emerged victorious, with some fresh meat for the starving cubs. She has an awkward personality, but can be very friendly once you get to know her. Due to her Primal mutation, she had a bob-tail and long canine teeth, which are a huge help when bringing down prey. Her son, Prince Khari, serves as a Guardian under Prince Makembe.

Confection - The Mutated Broodmother


Confection is the third head Broodmother in the Pride. She was exiled from her own pride when she was a young adult because of her achromia mutation. She wasn't able to hunt very well, since her bright fur would stand out and give her presence away to prey.
