Exploring with snake scent

What's the issue? Please include any error messages you receive and as much detail as possible.
For some reason the snake scent effect just turned off before finishing my quest (I was at 8/9 canids killed, from the snake quest giver.) I used another one, and while it apparently used up one use of the item, it still wasn’t showing it’s on in explore and doesn’t appear to be working. ☹️ I wasted a snake scent use for nothing. Is there a fix to this? Thanks!

Like some others have reported, the snake scents also sometimes just don’t work. They’re supposedly on, but I still don’t encounter the right enemy with a full bar of energy.

Please provide us with step by step explanation how this bug happened so we can attempt to replicate it. If it's complex, please include screenshots where possible:
1) used a snake scent
2) explored
3) killed 8/9 canids, snake scent deactivated
4) checked quest snake, saw I wasn’t done
5) went to hoard and used another snake scent use, and it showed as used
6) went back to explore, snake scent was still not active and I wasn’t encountering any more canids
7) was sad about my waste of snake scent 🙁
