A feminine, monotone voice echoes through the halls of a suburban family home, "An estimated 250 dogs live at the plant itself, 225 in the city of Chernobyl, and hundreds more roam around, for a total of more than 1,000, according to SPCA International. Wolves and the need for food have driven the dogs from wooded areas surrounding the plant into the Exclusion Zone." Suddenly, a sharper female voice cuts in. "Don't watch something so depressing, sweetie. The puppies are fine." The screen goes black.

setting music
The city is picturesque from the television screen. Though living amongst the crumbling, overgrown, radioactive buildings is another hell entirely. Dogs whose ancestors were abandoned by their masters in order to escape the explosion generations ago still remain here to this day, too far into the Exclusion Zone to be saved by any humans residing outside of Chernobyl. Many have been born with birth defects, sometimes visible but more often affecting their minds, organs and lifespans. Two major packs have risen out of the dust, Abolition and Insurgent. The packs have always been at odds but due to the encroachment of wolves and low resources, space is low and tempers are at an all time high. Can they come together to overcome the odds or will their own greed tear them down?

──────────────────────────────────────────────────

Current season: Early Winter. [Frigid temperatures. Long nights, short and dark days.]
Current major events:
Time Skip!! 9/5

Two Abolition dogs have been killed by Insurgent pack members. This has caused unrest in both packs.

A massive snow storm has swept over Chernobyl, bringing an early winter and a shortage of supplies.

Raymond | Abandoned Hospital | Mentions: Aramis, Quillon (Directly )

She quickly followed behind Aramis, turning her head at every noise that she heard. Raymond inhaled and exhaled silently, no need to be scared! It's just the hospital,, just the hospital haha,, Raymond thought to herself before bumping into Aramis as they stopped "O,, oh Quillon, your wounds.. " The dog quickly ran over to the much larger dog eyeing his wounds and blood stained fur.

Koroneis| Insurgent Camp| Mentions- Open

Koroneis woke up with a start, freeing herself from nightmares of her father. She crouched for a moment, then Tok hopped over to her with a worried croak and she smiled at him. 'Im okay buddy.' She cawed back at him in his own language, then stood up and shook her thick fur out. She padded out of her small den and into the main camp area. She hoped she wouldn't run into Isa, that dog terrified her. Tok flapped onto her shoulders and clung to her neck with a shiver. She sat down and started licking the snow off her chest.

Shadow | Den (Insurgent Camp) | Quillion, Raymond
Shadow lifted their head to look at Raymond as she approached with Aramis, nodding to Aramis in gratitude as she padded away. "Hello Raymond, Quillion, as you can probably see, is in pretty bad shape. I did the best I could with the meager store of herbs I had stashed for emergencies." They stood, gently licking Quillion's snout before moving the pelt laying across his wound. "I made a poultice of grey root and bile leaf and wrapped the leg with oak bark to preserve the effects of the poultice. I don't have anything else to help him, and I'm not sure what else to do..." They look at Raymond with fear plain in their eyes, their ears pinned against their skull and their tail dragging. "I think it's getting better, it doesn't appear to be infected... Do you have anything else that might help?"

Aramis | Insurgent Scout | Location: Insurgent Camp
Mentions: Cassiopeia, Curly(Directly) Isa (Indirectly)

"Thank you- again- you've been a great help today Curly. I apologize for not being able to talk with you in less than.. urgent circumstances." She said with a small smile, lowering herself onto her haunches and watching curiously as the golden dame nuzzled atthe pup's small form. Aramis found herself wondering if Isa ever did the same to herβ€”or either of her siblings when she was a puppy herself. She remember's nursing from her, sure, but nothing more other than her usual distant, cold behaviour whenever she was actually around. Aramis also remembered how awfully excited and overjoyed she'd feel at the sight of her mother coming by, before that sense of awe and fondness Aramis felt began to ebb away. She was jolted out of her saddening thoughts when the puppy weakly pressed more into Curly's fluff, Aramis's ears pricking hopefully. At least thats a sign she wont dieβ€” it looked like it when she was curled up out there. Aramis's concerned gaze rose up to Curly's face as she spoke again. "Thank you, Aramis. but i must ask- where did this young one come from?" Where did this young one come from? Aramis pawed at the ground nervously as she went to speak.

"Awfully good questionβ€” I don't really know. I heard what I think was her howling out in the storm, so i went to take a look, and she was just lying in the snow. I took her back here because she didn't look like she had a chance out there." No kiddingβ€” anybody could perish in that weather. Aramis was just thankful she was close enough to be found before Aramis's paws froze off. "I wouldn't let a puppy die." She added in a much more grim, hushed tone, lowering her head to lap at the frost that clung to her paws with a warm tongue. The same action could have been used to warm the pup as well, but Aramis didn't quite know that yet.
Is itβ€” s h e, hungry? Aramis thought suddenly, pausing her licking to gaze worriedly at the brown lump of fur curled up within Curly's golden plumage. It didn't look like she was hungry, but to be fair she's exhausted. What.. does she feed a puppy? Meat of courseβ€” but is it weaned yet? She hardly remembers when she was weaned herself, so she honestly had no clue when a puppy would start eating meat. There were no mother's in Insurgent she could properly ask, though. Actually, not quiteβ€” There's Isa, but talking to her already gave the scout an uncomfortable sensation, asking puppy stuff like that just seems awful. "When are they weaned? Pupsβ€”I mean, of course." She finally said awkwardly, breaking the silence.

Deanira | Insurgent Co-Lead | Location: Insurgent Camp
Mentions: Synopy, Likaen, Rye(Directly), Ferrer (Indirectly)

"Nothing really. I just have this feeling that something is terribly wrong, which is surely something from me. But I feel like I may be overthinking it, as nothing bad could happen so soon after Mavy's death right?" The brutish dame nodded in understanding, her dark brown gaze still on the smaller as she spoke. Deanira almost never saw the usually high spirited doe behaving so fretfully, and she had to admit it was worrying to see. It was understandable nonetheless, nobody expected the murder of Mavy, not so soon after the birth of her pups. Not ever. Deanira looked away eying the distance, catching sight of the dark clouds rolling in, although much further in the distance than they were now. This made her head tilt slightly, but she finally spoke after a few moments. "It's rational to be fretful during these times, Syn. Tragedy waits for no one, I'm afraid, I can't tell you whether or not something is bound to or not to happen, I can just make assumptions." She said a little grimly, her front paws lowering her onto her belly once again, her head held high as her paws stretched out in front of her. "I do believe things are calming down. That awful blizzard passed by with little trouble, and the days have been calm since then. Maybe a storm coming our way, by the likes of it, eh?" She added in a much more lighter tone, motioning her nose towards the clouds in the distance by the end of her sentence.

"Life's always been terribly unfair, Synopy, but we've made it this far, we can keep going." She said optimistically, finally gazing at the other with a soft smile. Her ears pricked as Ferrer suddenly padded past the two leaders, his steps falling quickly with purpose. Just before she could wonder too much about what he was doing, her ears flipped back at the sound of someone calling out to them. "Good evening!"
Deanira looked over her shoulder to gaze at the sunny-warm coat of Rye, the sun reflecting off his sleek frame, causing him to glow slightly, complimenting his features. "Evening Rye!" She called back, once again pushing her upper half to her front paws as she turned slightly in his direction, her tail slowly stirring up the snow as it wagged behind her. "Ah, sorry if I'm interrupting. Likaen wishes to speak with you both." Deanira noticed the buck tuck his tail underneath him, opting to give him a reassuring smile before she'd speak again. "All is well, Rye. And is that so? We'd best head over then." She huffed, lifting her heavy frame onto her paws slowly.

"I'm sure it's important, otherwise he wouldn't have sent me." Her brow furrowed at this, but she remained silent, listening as Synopy spoke next, already padding towards the stairs that Rye descended from. "Ah, I see. Has anything happened? I don't expect you to know much about it." Deanira made her way up the stairs, skipping a few steps to speed up the process. That made her recall Ferrer's urgent movements when he left camp, and now that she took the proper time to ponder about it, it was indeed worrying to the hovawart mix. Her pace quickened as she walked into the plant, shaking snow off of her black frame as she slipped away from the sunlight above. Deanira made her way over to Likaen, dipping her head at the wiry dog and wagging her tail for a moment. "Greetings Likaen, Rye says you need a word with Synopy and I?" She said, lowering herself to her haunches slowly. "Before you start, any idea of where Ferrer's off to? He seems in a hurry. If he's looking for herbs because our supplies are low we could send out a couple scouts to try and find some, if so."

Likaen | Abolition Camp | Synopy, Deanira
Likaen turned as Deanira and Synopy approached, nodding once to each of them. "Good evening, I apologize for interrupting whatever you may have been doing, however I believe this news is urgent and must be discussed." He sat back on his haunches, his gaze flicking to where Shatter was waiting, his ears tilting towards Deanira as she spoke. "Ferrer left to look for Slip. The pup disappeared some time this morning and Ferrer is worried about him." He looked between Dea and Syn before speaking again. "The first order of business is this loner who accompanied Rye and I back to camp. She was injured and is starving. Ferrer has already treated her wound, and I would like for her to stay with us until she is strong enough to survive on her own once again, or until she decides she would like to stay with us as a member of our pack, whichever way she turns." He dug his claws into the dirt before speaking again, regretting what he was about to say. "The other matter is the circumstances under which Rye and I found this loner. Rye had encountered Insurgent dogs near the border and a scuffle ensued with the loner. After the matter was handled, I warned the Insurgent scout that we would not be able to be as kind as I was earlier if we encounter them again with more of our pack mates, as they are still recovering from the loss of Mavy. She seemed shocked when I mentioned that Mavy was a mother, and this leads me to believe that rather than being a coordinated act by the pack, Mavy's murder was the result of the actions of one rouge member." He took a moment to think. "I fear that our pack mates are blaming the wrong party for the loss of Mavy, and it may result in dire consequences."

Curly | insurgent warrior | location: insurgent camp |mentions: aramis ( directly)

she blinked, thinking about the question. " uhm.. i vaguely remember my mother telling me it was 8 weeks until they could eat meat- or solid food in general." her tone grew smooth as she recalled her mother's teachings. curly then thought about the statement aramis had said previously to the question. " that's a good thing to say. that you won't let a puppy die- anyways." her muzzle formed into a smile as she tilted her head slightly.

Isa | Insurgent Leader | Location: Insurgent Camp.
Mentions: Aramis, Curly, Slip, Cassiopeia.

"Speaking of loners, I had my own skirmish with one that crossed into our territory earlier in the day." Isa's gaze flickered ever so slightly as Aramis spoke. Her face hardened as she went on about Abolition taking in the stranger. Idiots. Take in an aggressive loner and they'll be at your throats in no time. The thought made her become aware of the cuts across her own neck and she let out a soft sniff of disapproval. "The brute basically warned me that they wouldn't take too kindly with anymore Insurgent dogs seen by their borders any longer, since Fang murdered one of their own." A huff of annoyance sounded from her muzzle and she finally stepped away from the hospital's doors. The click of her nails echoed further into into the room as she padded away from her daughter. "The feeling is mutual. They shouldn't have let a member of their pack slip over our borders, they hold all responsibility for her death." She spoke over her shoulder, barely giving the other dog a shred of acknowledgement as she excused herself and went to speak with the healer. Treading further in, she peered into the darkness. There, still sitting in the make-shift bed, was the little pup she had plopped down earlier. Isa was quite surprised he hadn't fallen asleep yet. Or left.

She stepped a few lengths away and chose a spot on the cold floor to lie down, staring thoughtfully at the wall as she mused over Aramis' words. Aggressive loners.. They'll have to be dealt with, and soon. If they'll attack a grown male, they won't think twice about picking off the younger of the pack. Her gaze flashed towards Slip at the thought. She lifted her head and sighed quietly, not paying much attention to the dogs coming and going from the entrance. Their voices were muffled by the wind and almost deafened by her thoughts. "When are they weaned? Pupsβ€”I mean, of course." What an odd question. She swung her head around towards the voice, her daughter's slim frame outlined by the bright light streaming in from the doorway. At her side was Curly, and curled up against the fluffy female was a small pup. Ah, gods. Not another one. She clicked her tongue and pulled herself to her paws.

Taking a few steps towards them, she swiveled back around and nabbed Slip by the scruff. Once he was in her grasp, she continued her walk to greet the two dames. Once close enough, she plopped the anklebiter onto the floor. The way she sat him down was far from gentle, and he slid across the floor towards the pair. "Hmm. I was curious to see if they were siblings, but it seems they aren't." She studied the two pups closely, noting the differences in their ages and features. "Are you planning on keeping it?" The question was vaguely directed towards both of the other canines, her lip peeling back slightly in a grimace. New blood in the pack is a good thing, and it's been a while since Insurgent has seen young ones... but feeding them at a time like this could prove to be difficult.

Rye | Abolition Warrior | Location: Abolition Camp - Abolition Territory.
Mentions: Synopy, Deanira, Po, Ferrer.

"Ah, I see. Has anything happened? I don't expect you to know much about it." Rye's ears flicked back at the leader's question, offering a soft shake of his head. "It's as you expected. I know nothing, ma'am." He offered her an apologetic gaze before stepping out of their way and allowing them to pass. He stared at them curiously as they hurried along to meet with Likaen before his attention lingered away from the reactor and further into the territory. Ferrer's out there by himself. He thought with a sniff. Without much deliberation, he carried is golden-hued frame back out into the snow in search for the healer. Perhaps he could provide the male a bit of company, even if he wasn't entirely helpful.

After a bit of walking he was greeted by a great mass of fur strolling his way. "Po!" He woofed, offering the male a wag of his tail as they passed one another. "I take it your hunt went well?" He nodded towards the rabbit in the larger dog's mouth and smiled. The sheet of snow coming down didn't go unnoticed, and he turned his face towards the clouded sky. Blinking the stinging cold out of his eyes, he let out a soft sigh. "Seems like there's a storm moving through nearby. Perfect weather for preserving some food." His voice became quite distant as he stared at the shifting weather.

Shadow | Den (Insurgent Camp) | Quillion
Shadow continued humming softly, resting their head against Quill's neck, their eyes drifting shut. "And I love you....." The last few notes of their song drifted away on the cool breeze as Shadow stood, licking Quillion's cheek before padding silently out of the den. They stretched luxuriously, seeming to not notice the cold. They looked back at the entrance of their den for a moment. "I'll be back soon love." After this whispered good-bye, Shadow loped out of camp, heading for the center of the city, joyful barks making their way past their muzzle.

LION | abolition camp | mentions: none! feel free to interact

the huge, long furred dog sat down like a big furry loaf in camp, in a state of heavy relaxation. his fur rippled in the wind and made funny sounds- and frankly- they have been keeping him awake. he couldn't wait for spring so he could tear out long fur and feel manageable again.

Stoney | Loner | Insurgent Territory | Mentions:

It had seemed like he had lived for oh so long already, but he was barely 5 months into his life. It was a mystery, a surprise, everything that had so far happened in his life. The unexpected announcement that they were traveling to a new home, camp, was already a surprise to him. Chernihiv was a nice place! There was nothing wrong with it. But he couldn't understand, could he? Although what he feared the most had happened, he got lost. Separated from his family, oh the despair was much for him to take. Yet now, he somehow found a decent place. But it was in the midst of winter, and he wasn't built for such weather. Of course, he kept going. Optimistic yet careful about his whereabouts.

He hopped through the snow, as it was hard for such a puppy like him to get through the deep snow. There were many smells, of other dogs, and prey. Most grown dogs would be very wary of the scents, but Stoney was more focused on new friends than potential death from them. He leaped, hopped, and skipped his way through the snow, nearing the scents of other dogs. The excitement in him was showing clearly on his expression. After a very tiring stroll, he saw the distant silhouette of another dog. And with the building up excitement, it plummeted down once again. Becoming nervous, he didn't know if he was sure he wanted another friend. But there were so many upsides to having another! More food, play time, and lots of other stuff! Who knows what could happen? He shuffled his way through the deep snow once again, using less energy so he wouldn't be too tired out. After all trudging through snow was hard as the little pup he was. Now with a more up close view, he could see a black dog. A big one. Around his parents height. It was fascinating for him to see another dog that wasn't his family. The real question was, should he talk to them?

Koroneis| Insurgent Camp| Mentions- Isa, Aramis, Curly, Cassiopeia

Koroneis’s heart meant through a sickening thump when she spotted her pack leader, talking to some of the other dogs. Tok let out a noisy caw, and she had to shush him quickly. She did NOT want to talk with Isa today. Tok flapped around her head then soared out of camp. Koroneis loped our to follow him. He dove down to pester her ears gently, then soared back up as she pounced at him. They played in the snow, letting out caws and yelps of joy as they frolicked.

Shadow | Insurgent Territory | Stoney
Shadow stopped, shaking the snow out of their fur, to take in the beauty of the surrounding landscape. As they watched, there seemed to be something hopping through the snow towards them. "What on earth is that?" They whispered, watching as it moved closer before suddenly stopping. Or at least, it looked like it stopped. Now there was something burrowing through the snow. "Is it a rabbit?" They walked up to it, shoving their nose down to sniff at it. "It's a pup! What're you doing out here little one?" They asked, gently licking the top of the pup's head. They looked up, their head turning from side to side as they searched for the little one's parents. "Are you out here by yourself? That's not good... Maybe you should come home with me. Yes, that's what I'll do. I'm sure Quill and I could take good care of you." They gently picked the pup up by the scruff of it's neck. Ah, it's a boy. With the pup secured in their jaws, Shadow started towards home, not noticing the raven tailing them.
