Hi! I'm posting this after reporting several kings whose names were flat-out slurs, or implying slurs.

There's probably a handful of kings who have slurs as their names; not only is it a bad look on Lioden, but also extremely unpleasant to read as a POC who has been called those slurs before (me, and likely many others). Installing a name blacklist for slurs is extremely easy and simple. At least have a moderator check a king's name (or a team of moderators dedicated to it, although coding in a blacklist would be a lot easier).

I'm tired of reporting kings that have racial slurs directed at me or my friends. This shouldn't even be a problem on Lioden.

Edit for clarification: Blacklist for Slurs for King Names. Terminology like Dyke and Queer (which have been reclaimed) are fine. This is more-so directed towards racist terminology.

while I agree with this, I dont think the names should be forced to be pg 13 neccesarily. I beleive that the names should follow the 16+ lioden standard. So nothing 18+, but 16 plus is good.

Never said anywhere that they needed to be 'PG-13.' Just said they shouldn't be slurs.

Support; as international player who once accidentally named a lion a slur word because I didnt knew it was one, Id very much appreciate if there'd be a filter that'd not allow that to happen! A simple code that would block out a name and give error "You cannot use this word in a name! Choose another name." would be great to prevent it. Not all users are natively english speaking, and they simply might not know the word has a bad meaning - because using such words is forbidden everywhere and users that visit only civil forums/games just have no chance to know such words! An automatic block of such words would very much help international users.

Support!! Not sure if my kings name falls under any sort of grey area, but i've seen some pretty gnarly lion names that just seem downright wrong.

I agree with this, though it should be remembered that some slurs can be used innocently and have like, a double meaning. One that I can say: a dyke is a rock formation that somebody could use in a lions name innocently. In addition to also being commonly used as a slur. And there are other ones that are like, some people think it's a slur and others dont. It is a complex kind of matter. Definitely agree that some of the more heinous ones should be blocked from being in names though.

Hi!

Just a reminder to please report any rule breaks instead of addressing them personally and to please remain respectful of other users.

Thank you!

I'm wary on this, because I feel like this is already solvable by just reporting the lion- I had, unfortunately encountered one, but it got quickly sorted out with the modbox. Offensive names and the "report lion" button already exists for it.

Blanket banning is not ever really going to be effective, because some of the lines of what constitutes as a slurr or not is rather blurred, evident by the many heated arguments you can easily stumble upon online.

Also, people tend to get very creative with spelling slurrs or insults regardless of a word being banned, if tiktok is anything to go by.
Banning every single iteration is going get very tedious, even more so that Lioden supports different fonts for lion names. Some words also have alternative meanings depending on the region.

Aswel as the fact that it's likely going to mistarget the non-native english speaking people on the site if they name their lions in their own language- I sure do!- Because some words might look like an attempt to bypass the ban or just straight up be spelled the same way.

To give a very specific example, say I had a wooden musical instrument naming theme going on in my pride in my native tongue, I'd get in trouble real fast for naming a lion after the bassoon, considering it's spelled identical to what is in the US a common insult to gay men.

I agree with you that offensive names shouldn't have to be something people have to deal with, but the reality stands that people will not allways act ideally, nor is it the game's fault if it occurs and that an indivudal decides to break a rule. How they deal with it is another story.

I'm for the cause for making more players comfortable, I just doubt that this is really an effective way to handle it, with it having a history of backfiring on other sites aswell.

Support, though I definitely agree with 'report the lion'. Filters can only catch so much, and the human element will be valuable still.
