Hello! At this moment (1/13/22) I am currently working on a google doc to close the spontaneous rosette case, for good. I'll be looking into things as small as skin colour, and doing everything I can to get this massive question answered, Where are the rosettes coming from?

I plan on using studs with certain markings to see what markings are the most likely to produce rosettes. I'm also writing down the markings of 8 breeding pairs for every variation of rosette marking that has resulted in a rosette. It's difficult to explain, but I hope to present it to lioden later on in the year.

Right now, i'm asking for a bit of help. If you've recently had any rosettes, or have had multiple rosettes, please let me know. If you have any rosette theories or have noticed repetition within the breeding of rosettes i'd seriously love help from you.

I also need some financial help. 2000 SB and at least 4 GB is needed to fund the stud fees. If for any reason at all this project is shut down, your currency will be refunded with a sincere apology and thank you for trying to help me in this passion project of mine. Currently, I am not open for donations, I want to wait until this project is in a more secure state. Right now, it is unclear if I will be 100% moving forward with this theory. It could take all year, maybe even some of 2024 to complete, but I am very excited about it. i hope to release the building blocks of this theory some time this month or maybe in February.

With the few days of time i've put into this, I have quite a bit of evidence so far, but it really isn't secure yet. I have no standing proof to allude to any answer, so basically this 'drawing' is in the sketch phase.

If you come across any good Rosette theory threads please let me know, i'm looking to observe and take in the opinions of others to hopefully stack up to an answer. Thank you for reading all of this, and I hope I find some supporters for my project. :)

https://www.lioden.com/lion.php?id=794182139725 This is a MR cub I got yesterday. I used a stud with Mottled Rosette in slot 6 and Ebony Heavy Rosette in slot 9. Both were 100%, but the cub got Mottled Rosette 55% in slot 6. The mother did not have any rosette.

Of course! I also have an older rosette lady in my den, if you want her link.

sure! That would be great. :) The only thing is- if the links to her parents don't work, like if it says 'this lion does not exist' then I can't use her as an example in my doc, it would mess with the results. :(

ah, thats the case with a lot of the parents of rosettes that I look at. :( Thats one of the reasons this project is going to take so long- it's really difficult to find 'subjects' with viewable parents, because I take and record the markings of the parents to try to find which ones produce the most rosettes. I also look at mutations and stuff like that, so it's pretty necessary to have both parents viewable. :(

I have noticed something -

Every time theres a rosette, there is also a feline marking from either or each parent. Like the stud has 2-3 feline markings, and my older lady’s father had 2-3 feline markings aswell.

Perhaps they are linked..?

Yes! This is a big thing i have noticed, but not every single pairing i've recorded has feline markings, some pairings don't have any feline markings at all. I do think they could be linked for certain rosette markings, but not all. It seems each rosette variation has a different 'genetic code' and takes different markings or attributes to result in said marking. Which is to be expected I suppose. Here, let me pull up some data:
Auburn Heavy rosette:
12/16 Parents of the Auburn Heavy Rosette marking had at least 1 “feline” marking.

Auburn Soft Rosette
10/16 Parents of the Auburn soft rosette marking had at least 1 "feline" marking.

Briar Heavy Rosette
10/16 Parents of the Briar heavy rosette marking had at least 1 "feline" marking.

So, it is definitely present. Out of the 48 parents of rosette markings that I have recorded so far, 32 had at least 1 feline marking. Thats about 66% of all parents showcased in my rosette doc. I've also found a correlation between piebald muts and rosette markings. 16 out of 48 parents had a piebald or patches mutation, which makes it the most common mutation in rosette parents in my analysis, with primals and leopons close behind. so, about 33% of rosette parents had a piebald/patches mutation.

Just for your research, I will go on an extensive find to pull up rosette parents and their cubs that have had rosette and see how they passed it down, etc. Then i can report back? Its to your liking of course. Im a full supporter of this!

https://www.lioden.com/lion.php?id=794181865065 this cub doesn't have a feline from the viewable marks, I could see what his hidden marks are though?

That would be a great help! You can write it down in a google doc, I find that helps so I don't forget. :) I have 3 of the rosette marking 'investigations' down, so I've got quite a few to go! Would you be able to investigate "Briar rosette"? I need the the full list of markings from the parents of 8 lions with that marking. :)

@kI12
It isn't typically cubs with rosettes that have a feline marking, but rather their parents. :)
