Jen's Guide to Mutations

Some lions are born special, others have specialness thrust upon them!
In lioden there is an ever growing list of mutations that can effect lions in positive and negative ways. They can change how a lion looks, give them special abilities, stop them from doing certain tasks or even cause an early death!

To find a information on a specific mutation, item or event use CTRL+F to quickly jump to the correct entry!

This guide features all existing mutations and is kept up to date to the best of my ability. Feel free to reply with comments and questions but if there are any mistakes or issues with the information provided please message me directly rather than commenting.

Inheritance

Not all mutations pass equally. When rolling newly generated cub, mutations are rolled for one at a time in the order below.

Once a cub has successfully passed a check and recieved a mutation, no further checks occur.

Mutations rolled later in the list will never overwrite an earlier mutation with exception of the Mukoumburo & Dorsal Fur Guarantee which both force their respective mutation onto a single cub in the litter, regardless of existing mutations.

In other words, if a hybrid female has cubs, the system first rolls to see which (if any) cubs succeed the roll to recieve the hybrid mutation. Cubs who fail this roll and do not become hybrids will then roll for subsequent mutation chances, while the cubs who recieve the hybrid mutatuon will stop rolling for further mutations.

The tigon boost can no longer occur as it originates from a one time only event.

Mutation Categories

Currently mutations can be split into six categories;

Adult Mutations (AMPs)
Mutations that are hidden on cubs but become visible when the lion is old enough

Hybrids
A lion who, somewhere in their ancestry, is related to a totally different species.

Lethals
Mutations so drastic, it causes the lion's death.

Piebald & Patches
A mutation that causes the discolouration in specific patterns of black or white fur.

Primals
These lions carry the genes of an ancient relative of modern lions.

Visible Mutations
Aka the 'miscelaneous' category. This section covers all randomly occuring mutations that can be seen from birth and don't fit anywhere else.

Mutation Items

Cotton Root Bark

Purchase for 1 from Oasis

Give to a pregnant lioness in order to terminate her current litter and increase her chance of producing mutated offspring in her next immediate litter. This item also increases the chance that the lioness will produce a lethal mutation. Using multiple Cotton Root Barks in a row is pointless, as the mutation chance boost does not stack.

GMO Cow

Purchase for 150 from the Prophet Shop
~
Chance to recieve when buying $100 worth of GB in one purchase during Black Friday

Give to a lioness before breeding in order to highly increase her chance of producing mutated offspring in her immediate litter.

Lion Meat

Chance to recieve from the "Claim 50 Lionesses" quest.
~
Purchase for 2000 SB from the Carrion shop
~
Purchase for 100 LB from The Boneyard Shop
~

~
Chance to recieve as a jackpot prize from Slots game
~
Chance to recieve when buying $100 worth of GB in one purchase during Black Friday

Give to a lioness before breeding in order to moderately increase her chance of producing mutated offspring in her immediate litter.

Mukombero

Guaranteed from a very rare encounter during March
~
Chance to recieve when buying $100 worth of GB in one purchase during Black Friday

Give to a non-mutated lioness before breeding in order to guarantee she will produce one Primal (Ferus) cub in her immediate litter.

Pennyroyal

Purchase for 1 GB from the Oasis

Give to a stud with the Primal, Primal (Felis), Primal (Ferus), or Primal (Smilus) mutations before breeding to boost the chances that a Primal variation will be produced in their immediate litter. If given to a Primal (Ferus) stud before he breeds to a Primal (Ferus) lioness, the chance of a Primal (Ferus) cub being produced is boosted.

Mutie on Demand: Piebalds & Patches

Chance to recieve when buying $50+ worth of GB in one purchase during Black Friday

Use this on any non-mutated lion in order to apply the associated piebald or patches variant. (Currently 20 variant Piebald/Patch MoDs)

Mutie on Demand: Primal

Purchase for 201 from the Bone Yard shop

Use this on a non-mutated male lion in order to apply the Primal mutation.

Mutie on Demand: Overgrown Fur

Purchase for 2000 from the Carrion Shop

Use this on a non-mutated, non-posed adult lioness in order to apply the Overgrown Fur mutation.

Safou Fruit

Purchase for 1000 from the Monkey Business Shop

Give to a mutated lion in order to permanently remove their mutation.

Adult Mutatons

Some cubs are born with a hidden secret! Adult mutations are special in that from birth a cub may appear completely normal but once they hit a certain age, the mutation appears!

You can check for the presence of adult mutations by offering 60 to the Falcon's Eye, who'll reveal whether a cub is mutated or not with the following alerts:

When a mutation is detected:

The mutated cub is then tagged with the following identifier on their page:

When a mutation is not detected:

The non-mutated cub is then tagged with the following identifier on their page:

The falcon's eye's check simply an early warning syetem to let you know a cub will reveal its mutation later. It is not neccesary to a cub with the falcon's eye in order for an adult mutatuion to occur, as mutations are decided on conception.

Unrevealed adult mutations do not count towards the total mutie counter in your den. If you have a 'lost' mutie, checking all cubs in the falcons eye will not solve the problem!

Double Uterus

Also known as DU, Double uterus is a female exclusive mutation that gives the lioness some special abilities when breeding. Most importantly, double uterus muties produce double the number of cubs natural to other lionesses. This means if instead of one cub, she would produce two, instead of two cubs she would produce four, instead of three cubs, a DU would produce six and instead of four cubs, a DU would produce four cubs. Because of this, she will always produce an even number of cubs!

The second mechanic unique to DUs is their ability to breed to two different males before giving birth! After the first breeding, the number of cubs is set in stone & all mutation items used on the lioness are applied to those cubs.
After this, you have the option to breed to a second stud, overwriting 50% of the cubs with the new stud's genes. This second breeding is completely optional and will not impact the number of cubs whatsoever, so using a buffalo scrotum during the second breed would waste the item. Additionally, any mutation items or ochre gnawrocks used during the first breeding will not effect the overwritten cubs, so a second set of items would be required if this route is chosen.

It is one of three adult mutations that can be posed, both during nesting and with the use of female poses.

It cannot be passed onto cubs without the use of a lion scrotum. Lionesses with this mutation have no increased chances of producing mutated cubs than a non-mutated lioness.
Using a lion scrotum on a lioness with this mutation will result in a 5% chance to pass her mutation onto cubs, unlike the usual 25% pass chance other mutations recieve from the lion scrotum.

Hybrids

The term "Hybrid" refers to an animal born as a result of a breeding between two animals of different species. In the real world, lions are capable of producing ofspring with fellow members of the Panthera genus and this is currently reflected in lioden in the form of two very rarely occuring mutations.
Any pregnant lioness has a very low chance of producing a first generation hybrid as a result of an affair with either a leopard or tiger. Regardless of what king bred the lioness to initiate the pregnancy, the father of these first generation hybrids is altered to reflect theit unusual circumstances!

Tigon

The word tigon is a portmanteau of the words tiger and lion and refers to the ofspring of a male tiger and female lion.

In lioden, the first tigon of any lineage is fathered by Ashkarn, a non-breeding NPC owned by one of the founders of lioden, Xylax (#4). Paternity is retroactively assigned to Ashkarn upon the creation of a first generation hybrid, meaning he is automatically set as their father regardless of which male sired the rest of the litter.

You do not need to breed directly to Ashkarn for a chance at a first generation tigon. They occur exactly the same way (at a lower rate) as other randomly occuring mutations.

Upon birth of a first generation tigon, a player recieves the following message;
PLACEHOLDER

Like all hybrid types, tigons have special traits unique to first generation variants.
*Born with the mandarin base, a breed only base exclusive to first generation tigons and their descendants. All female tigons have an increased rate of passing this base to their ofspring.
*Born with mottled stripes in slot 8. A marking exclusive to tigons and their descentants. All female tigons have an increased rate of passing this mark to their ofspring.
*[Female exclusive] 10% chance to pass the mutation to cubs. This is double the rate of non-first generation tigon females.

Leopon

The word leopon is a portmanteau of the words leopard and lion and refers to the ofspring of a male leopard and female lion.

In lioden, the first leoon of any lineage is fathered by one of the thousands of roaming leopards natively found in Africa. Paternity is retroactively wiped upon the creation of a first generation hybrid, meaning their father is always set to "Unknown", regardless of which male sired the rest of the litter.

You do not need to breed directly to a leopard for a chance at a first generation leopon. They occur exactly the same way (at a lower rate) as other randomly occuring mutations.

Upon birth of a first generation leopon, a player recieves the following message;
PLACEHOLDER

Like all hybrid types, leopons have special traits unique to first generation variants.
*Born with the kimanjano base, a breed only base exclusive to first generation leopons and their descendants. All female leopons have an increased rate of passing this base to their ofspring.
*Born with mottled rosette in slot 6. A marking exclusive to leopons and their descentants. All female leopons have an increased rate of passing this mark to their ofspring.
*[Female exclusive] 10% chance to pass the mutation to cubs. This is double the rate of non-first generation leopon females.
