Genetics don't really play a part in it because many mutations aren't passable. Top of my head, the passable mutations are piebald and patches, primals, dorsal fur, overgrown fur, and the hybrids. The others need lion scrotums to pass.

No generic food item boosts mutation chances. Low fertility can help, but your best bet is usually a ton of cotton root barks, purchased from Oasis. Lion meat and GMO cows also boost mutation chances—lion meat moderately, and GMO by a lot.

I only recommend using lion meats and GMO cows on things like hybrids and double uteruses. For other things, cotton root bark is great. Quantity over quality.

A lot of it, like most of this game, is just luck though.
