I would like to suggest another gemstone base, this one based on the gem Opal. This could be a combo base, perhaps of Sphinx/Haliotis x Labradorite/Hexaplex/Dawn. Please give feedback and thoughts on how to improve on it. Blended more ![]() Blended more, no lines ![]() ![]() No lines ![]() |

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think we have a base called opal but it doesn't ook like this, so support! ![]() |

Oh! Thank you Cali, we DO already have a base by this name, but it looks.... silvery-brown? No idea what that has to do with an opal stone. Still, I will change this name. Thank you! ![]() Edited on 17/04/23 @ 20:26:39 by TabbyBri (#430441) |

I love the concept but I think you need to soften up the colors, maybe blending them some more? Right now the rainbow "iridescent" areas are too harsh and blocky. I think with some tweaking it could be a beautiful base concept! ![]() ![]() |

Personally, I like the idea. But the blending makes the colors merge into a brown-ish tint. I recommend using blending brushes instead of blurring them out. Another thing is values. The somewhat brighter splotches are much more saturated than the actual base, making it look out of place. You're doing great, though! ![]() |

Thank you, Vulturetalon! Blending brushes rather than blurring? How do they change things? I am new to the art programs out there, and fairly unfamiliar with many of the "brushes" used. ![]() |

Instead of blurring everything together, you use opacities and such. I'm not able to tell you alot, since I don't know what programs you use. But as an artist for nearly 8 years, I can say Ibispaint has nice brushes. You should mainly look for "water" blending modes on there. ![]() |

Thank you! I have been using GIMP, and a lot of that program is confusing to me. I will look into Ibispaint, and its water blending modes! ![]() |

I do dislike the... muddy look the blurring brush on GIMP tends to make, but I cannot afford a paid art program at this time. ![]() |

Firealpaca is also a good alternative free option, with more professional features. ![]() |
