my apologies if this has been posted before, i searched for the keywords and couldn't find anything, but i am also bad at reading and could have just missed something, anyways, onto the suggestion.

This is primarily meant for base and marking applicators. I think the state of breeding items in Event Shops is fine as is, after all, most get used by the time the event rolls around again, and breeding items have done superbly at keeping their value even amongst everything else. This was made before poll results for Community Update #188 came in, but so far, bases are leading the polls. After June 2023, the June Event will have a total of 18 bases in its shops, with 6 in each shop. Other shops are also extremely bloated with applicators, with most having at least eight base applicators per shop. Given how events in general started around 8 years ago, this isn't too much of a shock, but it's still getting a bit insane and resulting in lower value for all bases involved.

I think the best scenario for rotating shops would be alternating years, so, for example, June Shops would look like this under this suggestion:
Shop 1 - 2018, 2020, & 2022 Bases
Shop 2 - 2019, 2021, & 2023 Bases

Essentially, one shop would exist for odd numbered years, and another for even numbered years. Ideally, if this suggestion is implemented, it would at either be implemented in an event that generally isn't important for base applicators (January, March, or July, for example), OR warned at least six months in advance, to give those some time to buy the applicators they want from other players. Of course the ideal would be to give a full year warning, but I don't expect that for every single event, especially those with lower values.

Let me know if you no support, and why! We just have so many base applicators a lot of shops are incredibly bloated, especially ones like June where 3 are introduced every year, or November where it's one of the oldest events.

This suggestion has 102 supports and 17 NO supports.

Support! I love the look of so many applicator bases and I feel like this is a fair tweak to give a little bit of value back to the ones that have been in the shops for a really long time

Huge support πŸ‘

Maybe include a rotation where everything is present? Like every five or ten years?

I also like the idea of different players getting different apps in their event shop, to encourage trade. I have no idea how this would be randomly generated, but I think it would be nifty if some players got apps from Shop 1 and some from Shop 2 :D

@129572 - I was thinking of including a third shop for every third year where all items were present, but it felt too often. 5 feels good, but throws off the flow of even/odd, and 10 is just a super long time to wait! Though I do like the idea of shops including everything every few years, I'm just not sure what would be a good middle ground for it.

Great idea! I feel like the market is so well managed in so many other areas of LD EXCEPT applicators. The only ones with any real value anymore seem to be the typical spicy/dicey ice and some Feb. ones. Even then their value has obviously decreased significantly over the years. I never play the June event, which does suck because it's right in the middle of summer for the Western Hemisphere and when I was in school it was always a bummer that I had so much free time during one of the only events I didn't like! Full support, if not for this exact idea, then something around these lines that helps rejuvenate this event haha :)

Yeah, the market is honestly on a really reliable cycle with everything but applicators, there's so many applicators thrown in to the mix now you can never tell what's going to be valuable. A rotating event shop even allows them to keep up with their desire to add a ton of applicators, and keep from overwhelming the playerbase. It's gotten to the point where now you cannot reliably pick even just a few applicators to get. If you want one of each, you have to buy the others. Back when I started you could usually get at least one of every base, but now that's impossible.

Also, back to someone who mentioned the randomization of shops per player, I feel like that could be a good idea? It still effectively cuts down on the amount of applicators bought, and makes sure to keep certain apps in stock for combo breeders like the June combos that need a certain year's bases, I mean, February has a total of 23 apps in just the Flirt Shop, it's over 30 if you add in the Slap Shop applicators, and December has 24 apps in just the Mantis Shop. That's an insane amount of applicators!

I don't support - not everyone plays the market game, some just want pretty lions. And that should be okay. In fact there are months I only play for the event because I know certain marking or base applicators will be available. If I am investing the time to earn the currency, I should be able to spend it on what I want. Additionally, if I know that an app I want is suddenly on an alternate year rotation, I am not going to be apt to waste my time that month in the game until the next year. Discouraging players from participating in an event doesn't sound all that great.

With that being said, a few things I'm thinking may help is:
1) have a decent break on creating new bases altogether
2) they could add some new combo bases using existing bases that aren't "worth" as much
3) allow additional existing applicator bases as factors into existing combo bases

Perhaps a fair alternative to your suggestion, in my opinion, is allowing one re-roll of a shop each month. If certain apps are only available every other year, you can have 1 opportunity to buy the applicators in the shop, and then if you choose to reroll the shop, it swaps and you have 1 opportunity to buy the other half of the applicators. No swapping back and forth, just a one-time thing that lets players out for a specific base or marking able to get it yearly, if they wish to do so.

I would be open to allowing players to choose their specific shops, which would put the applicators on a similar alternating schedule that Buffalo Scrotums/Lion Scrotums are on due to the February focus shifting each year, but I also feel like it's a bit much.

The market is the lifeblood of the pretty lion game, if the market is messed up, the pretty lion game is, too. You can't just not opt in to the economy, if you breed lions, chances are, you're buying lions from others or buying items from others at bare minimum. No matter what you're doing, you're most likely participating in the market unless you just only pretty up NCLs you found from explore and only use applicators from events. And since most players need GB, either sparingly for sex changers, minor customization, and poses, or more often for RMAs, Energy Boosts, and IBFs, they're almost always trying to sell lions. Unless you play Lioden solely as a pet sim and don't interact with breeding at all, you need GB, and even then, you'll still eventually need GB for Male Slots, Frozen Slots, or just more Territory. While yes you can do it all free to play, you can't do free to play without interacting with the market.

Making new combo bases also doesn't solve the problem, because combos are punishing to breed and most players won't even touch them. Mudstone did nothing for the value of NCL exclusives, Smog did nothing for the value of the commons that are part of it, Styx did nothing long term for Noctis. The same with Celsian, Majivu, and Squall. Most combos are so cheap they're available for pennies on the dollar, because the demand is non existent but the supply is there. I regularly buy the combos I mentioned at 5gb or less just because they have no value. And this is coming from a combo breeder, while I may not be actively dedicating an account to it, I currently breed Smog and Hellebore on the side and find *no* success in selling these bases.

Honestly, the only thing that could fix it is a break from making bases all together, which in the May Development Update, they basically said there's no way it would happen, direct quote below:
"Having new decors, bases and markings and other body components as we have been updating is unlikely to stop, as we are committed to still delivering content updates to you all each month, including the event updates, so that the game stays reasonably fresh while everyone is waiting for the rest."

I mean, Lioden is not coined as a market sim. In the description it says "breed the best cubs" which "best" can be completely subjective. Nothing about making the most money selling base applicators. Again if I want to buy for example the Ragdoll base this year with Stink Bugs and I know I can't buy another for 2 more years, where is the incentive to play next year? I want to feel encouraged to *play* and participate in the events. If the amount of base applicators is cut monthly by half, I don't think it's too much or unfair to compromise and allow a re-roll of a shop, or equivalent even if it's one use per month. Event currency is already limited by one's time and RNG. Heck even the re-roll idea could cost event currency, despite me feeling it should be free as items we currently have annual access to would be held back for a year. But taking away in-game items without any alternative absolutely does not vibe well with me.
