There isn't really a 'best' way, just opinions. Some say get better lionesses, some say invest in items that will be worth more later, others will say get a nice king, etc.

It also highly depends on what you want to do in the game. Explore? Breed for beauty? Stats? Mutations? Special bases? Clean or dirty? Go beetle battling? Buy art? There are so many ways to play the game and depending on what you enjoy doing, the 'best' choice changes as well.

Definitely upgrading your king would be a good use of GB at the start since you mentioned breeding! There you would have two choices:

a) Replacing your king for 10 - you would also need a heir that would become the king - and thus needing a lion with looks you like

b)Keeping your current king, but adding the applicator base/markings. You could for example earn enough event points to buy applicators with those and this way bringing the cost down, since buying applicators can get costly and quick.

Honestly for the rest of the pride I wouldn't spend on; Trade Center is full of stunning lionesses with a price so I would go for those! You can earn some quick simply by exploring and hunting a lot, and then selling the carcasses (Zebra/Wildebeest/Crocodile/Elephant calf) are better sold on Branch sales (In my opinion), where as smaller carcasses etc sold to the monkey - or as a bundle on Trade Center!
