You sit in the well lit office, the looming awful dread hanging in the air. Blood, Needles- soon to be dug into my body, drawing the blood out of my body. "Medicinal, for science, we have to check your health", the reasons float back and forth- doing nothing to quell the fear. Blood, Needles- both will soon be a forefront in your life. The awful panic swirls up again, drowning out all rational. The mantra repeats itself once again: Blood, Needles. In this moment nothing will work as a distraction. Phobias, overtaking my life. The bloodwork will need to be done, but nothing will help the overbearing panic: controlling my emotions and my life. The fear is almost remanent of everyday life- at least here you can blame it all, every single deluded clouded thought, on my fear of needles. Vaguely you here the doctor will enter soon, as they strap your arm down, offering you a useless stress ball to hold as though that will heal your anxieties. The fear brings a tunnel vision, to your sight and my brain, splitting you apart. You know, deep down, your fear isn't rooted in the needles. It is rooted in the fear of every day life, what this new information from this test will arise in my life. The two different people in you will merge, resulting in one singular 'I'. The safety net of 'You' and 'Me' - separating your fears and my emotions - will boil down to the single biggest issue in my life. The fear of a chronic illness, masked behind a fear of Blood and Needles. If you don't move forward with this bloodwork there will be nothing wrong, nothing to affect my life. You can go on and on about the grotesque horror needles bring to you, causing your entire body to shake and your breath to come out short and heavy, almost breathless in your hyperventilated fear wracked body. No, you will need to confront the issue head on, discarding my fear of needles and accepting the reality, merging the two realties to the one ultimate truth: I am not scared of needles I am terrified for my future.
