For lionesses, I think stats only affect the stat pool range the cubs can inherit. Hunting level determines how well the lioness succeeds in the hunt, but I am pretty sure stats have no effect on that. You can raise lionesses stats with hunting and many high stat breeders do, since they want high stat cubs from their usually very high stat kings and then those hunting high stat females. But other than breeding results, there is not a lot of difference between 100 and 800 stat lionesses.
