the checklists around lioden are extremely inconsistent and for the sake of convenience, consistency, and accessibility they really should have some changes made. many checklists on essential areas of the site can be not only frustrating, but potentially cause physical pain to use because of their design. lioden hurts my hands sometimes and I'm sure it's worse for those with disabilities that affect their ability to use their hands. note that my points below are based off my experiences as a desktop user; the last time I accessed lioden from my phone was 3 years ago so I'm not sure how these features function on mobile. shift-click selectionshift-clicking is a common feature on lots of websites & software that allows you to quickly select multiple items. you click the first item in the list you want selected, then click the last item you want selected while holding shift. this will select the first, last, and in-between items all at once. this feature greatly reduces the amount of repetitive clicking you need to do if you need to select a lot of items. shift-clicking works on only a few of the checklists around lioden. an example of an area on the site that does allow shift-click selection is trade creation/transfers. areas of lioden that DON'T allow shift-click selection: - monkey business nesting material crafting - inbox - move and mass remove lions - forum subscriptions page - trait selection dropdown in searches* * this one halfway works; shift-clicking will highlight multiple items as if you've click+dragged over them with your cursor, but not truly select them to be added to the search query. an example scenario: you have 100 lions in a cave, and you want to chase the 50 lowest stat ones. you sort the cave from highest to lowest stats so that the low stat ones will all be grouped together. but... you have to manually select all 50 because you can't shift-click! even if you use the button that checks off every lion in the cave, you still have to click 50 times to deselect the ones you want to stay! a simpler example scenario: you want to craft all of the white lion pelts in your hoard into nesting material... you must manually click on every pelt. larger area of selection outside the checkboxsome checklists on the site allow one to click on the area surrounding the item name to select it, rather than limiting the clickable area to only the tiny checkbox. this isn't true for other checklists on the site, though. an example of a list on the site that does have this feature is nesting material crafting. although there are checkboxes present, you can click anywhere in the area near the item name to check it off. areas of lioden that DON'T allow clicking outside the checkbox: - inbox - move and mass remove lions - forum subscriptions page having to click on a small, precise area of the screen just sucks for everyone! it's annoying and unnecessary and causes frustration if for any reason your clicking is not on-point every time. maybe you could zoom in to make this easier, but that's inconvenient, and this is the convenience board after all. alternating background colours of checklist itemsthis is a more minor suggestion than the two above, since it's much more consistent around the site, but it's worth mentioning if we're going to talk about making checklists consistent. the alternating background colour between list items is present on lots of areas of the site and helps to visually differentiate between two items next to each other, in order to prevent misclicks. areas of lioden that DON'T alternate background colours of checklist items: - transfers, trade creation, selecting items/lions to offer on a trade - trait selection dropdown in searches perhaps this is something that will be improved with the site's recode, but I don't see any reason why we can't ask for this to also be implemented before then, especially considering that it's an accessibility issue. just recently the code for all ingame shops was redone and unified, so clearly not all coding changes need to be saved to only be introduced with the rest of the recode. feel free to let me know if I'm missing any lists on the site that have one of the problems listed above, I just went off the top of my head and poked around the site a little TL;DR most of the checklists on the site are weird and inconsistent and cause a lot of repetitive clicking so let's make them consistent with the better checklists to make fewer peoples' hands hurt |
