Right now, as per the Item Catalogue, there are over 400 different applicators - and that's great news in terms of choice. However, so many of these are massively undervalued, and a large part of that is simply because they're such old bases, and with each passing year, more and more have been accumulated. Now, this isn't necessarily the case for every old applicator, but it's certainly true for a lot of them, especially for events where apps are easier to purchase/get (looking especially at you, November event). Let's have a look at some of the oldest event applicators in the game by item ID: Sacred Body - 8,000+ Sacred Fur - 23,000+ Supernal Body: 8,000+ One with the Giants: 7,000+ Ethereal Body: 10,000+ Ethereal Fur: 29,000+ Skyward Blessing: 6,000+ Penumbra Body: 14,000+ Penumbra Fur: 17,000+ Fossil Fur: 27,000+ Hyena Stripes Heavy: 9,000+ Hyena Stripes Scarce: 9,000+ Curse of Divine: 13,000+ Sunset Markings: 10,000+ Eldritch Immolation: 9,000+ Brimstone Core: 13,000+ Brimstone Imprints: 11,000+ Brawl: 27,000+ Inverted Brawl: 49,000+ (!!) Touch of Demiurge: 15,000+ Heavenly Serenity: 11,000+ And so on... Now, of course, having plenty of selection is great, but having so many applicators floating around largely just devalues them - often to the point that many are barely worth more a year later than when they're in the current event shops! And things get even crazier when you look at how many lions have these bases... From the list above, it's often the case that many of these bases at some point were given out as freebies, and there's nothing wrong with that. But there's just so many, and it really does devalue the applicators to the point that they're worth very little. So I propose something different: retiring these very old / numerous applicators from the event shops. I should stress here: this wouldn't stop people applying said bases since the applicators are still in circulation, but since their numbers won't keep spiralling up each year, they'd become more valuable. Once numbers were less oversaturated, they could potentially then be sold again through Monkey Business for SB for a few days, once a year - much like the Gilded app and so on. I should also point out that it wouldn't stop being able to buy cheap applicators since apps are still released as freebies and craftables and those are often very cheap due to their nature, so new players who may not have much currency can still apply an applicator base. Moreover, I'm certainly not saying to retire all of them. Maybe just one or two per event per year, so the numbers of apps available to buy would largely still remain stable. And of course, these bases would still remain in circulation as applicators and breed only bases - but just with slightly more value / demand than they have currently, where the market for applicator base lions is largely dead. No surprise really - bases like demiurge have too many lions to show properly. Thoughts? |

I'm on the fence about this. I'm a pretty new player and I've seen quite a few older players talk about the idea of retiring bases. I absolutely agree on the points about upping the value of applicator bases. However, to a lot of players (and me ), the most looked forward to part of event shops is getting applicators. Maybe rotating event applicators available for purchase would be better? For example, one October the only applicator colors in the Blood Beetle Shop could be Blood Moon, Blazing, Infernal, and Wicked apps. Then next october the only ones available are Haunted, Demonic, Angelic, and Bloodbourne. Just thinking 1 player likes this post! Like? |

I played on here for years, stopped for probably 5-6 and only just came back this month. The value of older bases is absolutely ZILCH and the pool of available special bases is ridiculously high. It was an issue when I was playing years ago and the fact that it is not only still an issue but has gotten WORSE is disheartening. Absolutely, PLEASE retire old applicators. Don't bring event applicators back, let them be something that STAYS rare and that you want to breed for in order to collect them. Maybe have like a Black Friday special shop that opens once a year for a chance to get retired applicators or release them only on raffle/event lionesses but something really does need to be done to limit the oversaturation of bases. I hear that LD apparently dislikes Wolvden but the Lunar Apps disappearing after the event is over and ONLY being available for real-life lunar events afterwards was such a smart move to implement, the fact that there hasn't been a shift on LD towards that isn't a positive for LD. 1 player likes this post!
