Hi! As someone who only plays Lioden (and tried Wolvden and gave up a second later in confusion), I've always been curious as to why Wolvden is less popular than Lioden, and why it's less liked. In theory, it sounds like it would be popular, Wolves are very popular animals and many animal roleplayers play as wolves.

So what is it about Wolvden that makes it less popular? I'd love to hear your opinions and what you like and don't like about Wolvden! Just a little discussion question as I've always wondered about this

Mainly the age, Lioden was open in 2012, Wolvden only in 2020. A game that is eight years older naturally would have more players interested in it! Lioden has more things to do, more items to collect, more mutations and bases/markings and so forth.

Secondary is difficulty, from my personal experience. Wolvden is very hard compared to Lioden, and often it feels just unrewarding to play it. I never take hiatus from Lioden, but Wolvden, I barely play a week every other month, because its just very complex and requiers a lot of work for, really, very little reward.

in wolvden your wolves can get sick, when as a newbie when i first started wolvden all of my wolves got sick almost right after I started and I didn't know how to craft the medicine yet so they just all died off one by one.

I haven't really played it since I first signed up for it. Maybe played for a month or two? I just think it was much more different, and harder, than Lioden than I was expecting so I didn't enjoy it like I thought I would.

I joined when I was on a hiatus after something happened here (that I don't want to get into). It was... okay. But it was pretty difficult, but I think I was also on before illness was implemented. And my computer died after I joined, so I lost my password.

Part of me wants to go back, but another part remembers how hard it was to expand to other areas.

Wolvden smells awful (jk) I just couldn't wrap my tiny brain around the differences and I found the added effect of sickness just made it stressful rather than relaxing like lioden

Lioden just feels smoother and more put together for me

This is a older post but Wolvden is much harder while also not being the *fun* kind of hard. It's just....tedious....and boring. There's also barely any active users on it and zero economy.
Lioden so far is really enjoyable and it's easy to get base apps and fun stuff

I’ve played Wolvden every day since early access. Never missed a rollover. And I still have absolutely no idea what I’m doing or what’s going on in the game

I struggled to find something to do, there’s nothing I’ve felt drawn to doing/breeding yet. My pack is an inbred, flea infested mess of wolves that look the same with 10 slots of the same marking xD

The main focus in game is clean breeding which I just couldn’t be bothered doing, without a heritage rep system you have to clean breed exactly the wolf you want as low gen as possible to make any sort of profit from studding.

I log on, feed and play with my wolves. Explore a couple times and log off. When there’s no event there’s really nothing to do. Explore collect random stuff and hope one day it’s useful / profitable.

I do love the mini games, pair bonds are brilliant. Item remnants feature is the best thing ever we need it here! The events so far are fun. I just need to find what I want to do.

I did the same thing! After checking it out I immediately quit in confusion.
In my experience it was just really complicated and confusing for me. There are several features I thought were really neat. However I think lioden will s just more smooth and put together better.

I LOVED the pairbonding system ! But that wasn't really enough to keep me interested. I have some lovely, beautiful wolves on there but there's just not much to do so I don't rollover anymore

Yeah, for me it was too difficult to get into. I found that in lioden you have a lot more freedom in what you want to do. You don’t have to cram stuff, like crafting medicine or exploring, like you would in wolvden. It seemed super fun, but I just couldn’t get into it.

I "quitted" wolvden right after the tutorial, there was something that left me hanging and I js couldn't figure out what to do.While lioden is a good pass-time , even if it too has some flaws - but nothing's perfect !

Personally, i play it without a pack (not really playing) since i login to check an adoptable thread I own. My personal difficulty with the game was mainly the overly-complex system for a brand new game. Lioden started out simple with extremely simple bases and designs, without the overabundance of unrealistic elements [such as the bright pelts we see in wolvden; they didn't exist in lioden for a while i believe]. There is too much to do, which was a poor choice for a brand new game that from the get go is out to kill your pack, even during the tutorial.

To simply put it, the game is too hard and not rewarding. The system within wolvden's players and the economy is a mess, much worse than lioden because lioden players migrated over to wolvden and encouraged short-gen and clean breeding in a toxic way that made even g2 wolves unable to sell for even 400sc, let alone a double-digit GC amount like we see here on lioden. It was made too hardcore from players, but also the actual game system itself. It created an unplayable, unfriendly game and community. Most players dislike speaking in main chat due to the wide number of toxic superiors in the chat, compared to Lioden that gets complaints, but isn't so bad that old chat regulars were scared off. I am aware this has happened on LD before, but most of WD's userbase has expressed discomfort with main chat, so often it's hard to get into the game with a very quiet community compared to lioden.

The economy isn't too bad on Wolvden. I regularly sell high gen rare based wolves for upwards of 300-500 SC. There is some obsession with clean, low gen breeding, but I feel it's being overplayed here. There's a lot of opportunity for new players to get rich easily if you're smart about it.

I have a pack of 150+ and have been playing since 2021. No issues with getting them fed or played with even if I only go on once or twice a rollover. Never had a wolf die from anything besides old age. Theres a lot of great forum features and there's a group dedicated to making guides for the game, Grouse House, which I find to be very high quality. Once you get the hang of the game the systems are pretty intuitive.

Personally, I don't like Lioden for a few main reasons: The website, the breeding, and the simplicity. The website is old and as expected kind of clunky. It can't be helped of course but it's a big turn off for me. I accidentally made an inbred guy my king so I'm fucked here, while if I made an inbred guy my stud on Wolvden I'd at least still have pairbonds. Wolvden's mechanics can be a bit complicated but it makes the game more engaging for me. It feels like I don't have much to do on Lioden.

Hopped on Lioden to check on my pride for the first time in a while and was immediately reminded why I stick to Wolvden!
