Short story
Mind games actually died at birth, but Coin had grown attached to his mate's litter and tried his best to revive her the best he could. Fauna felt sorry for him, and secretly let the cub re-enter the living world before Anpu noticed. Of course, it didnt take long for the deities to find an anomaly in the system. Anpu was furious at Fauna and sent the wandering spirit to the Farther for a short time. Mind Games was killed in front of Coin, and the king was punished for his denial in the deities' ways. He began to see hallucinations of his cub, being driven into a psychotic episode for a while until it finally ceased. Now he only sees glimpses of his deceased offspring in the corner of his eye, and sometimes others swear they see it too.
Medium length story
Flora is one of the desert spirits, twin sister of Fauna. The two sisters were chased from their former pride, cast out into the vast, merciless lands of the desert. It was said that the first king, Hare'runner, took them in. Nobody knew about the spirits then, the pride had just been a pride, nothing more and nothing less. Everything went smoothly for a few moons as the sisters helped around and trained apprentices. There were sightings of things in the desert, but everyone then had assumed they were hallucinations from the desert heat. No. It only became a concern when the spirits began to attack the pride. Picking out lions like a menu and leading them out. They were killed in many ways. Slaughtered, stabbed, starved, burned, you name it. Nobody knew why this was happening and it led to panic, since the only ones who were familiar with spirits were.. oh.
Fauna and Flora.
The two were sent out of the oasis to go try commune with the rampaging entities that massacred their pride, and at first the two were against it, knowing full well they would be killed. But the desperate voices of their pride members got the better of them, and they both prepared for the journey to the strongest link to the spirit realm in the desert, Raktas. Raktas was two massive stone pillars a bit away from each other, said to be the ancient runes of a once great castle that spread across the desert. Flora had been hesitant about this, saying they shouldn't trespass on the spirit land, but Fauna had insisted, that the pride were counting on them to stop this.
When they reached, they were met with Sekhmet. Nobody knew about Sekhmet yet, Fauna and Flora were the first to meet her in millennia. Nobody knows what she said to them, or why she had to meet them face to face. All we know was the twins were found dead the next day, their ribs showing through their scarred pelts, and eyes staring sightlessly into the void. They had seen something. Something nobody could even begin to describe.
The two were formed into spirits, but were blind, their vision stolen by Sekhmet and whatever horrors she had unleashed upon them. Fauna and Flora slowly adapted to this, learning to feel their surroundings and breathe in the air, using this knowledge to guide out travellers and passers by, not wanting anyone to meet their same fate. For they may not be so lucky.
Long story
Bang.
Birds screech and fly off into higher branches, the critters of the savannah flee in fear, all willing to sacrifice another just so they could be spared.Β
The noise came again, this time louder.
A cry of pain rung out through the trees, chilling the animals to their very core as they watched the lioness collapse weakly, a silver bullet dented through her skull, shot from the Firestick the humans tormented them with. Silence for a moment, then laughter as the hunters emerged from their hiding place, covering the lion's body with a net, each of them were equipped with skinners, rifles and a rope. Just as one was about to come forward, a figure sprung from the cover of a bush, leaping at the hunters and tearing into their soft skin. It was a lioness, and a young one it seemed. They had a rather unnatural pelt, and snake-like fangs. She pushed the hunters down, throwing them to the side until they ran off back into their flimsy Camo-truck. The lioness padded to the cooling body off the grey lioness, taking the net off of her then picking them up by the scruff, dragging them back to camp.Β
Chameleon'shade had brought the dead lioness back to her pride, putting her in the Allseer's den. She had little hope there was anything to be done for her, but no lion deserved to die from the blow of a firestick.Β
The lioness was being led to the afterlife, following the dire wolf cautiously. She looked back, stopping for a moment on the silvery steps. She didn't know where she was going, she just followed Anpu, nervousness visible in her gaze. She hadn't had a name, when she was alive she'd just been a lone lioness, she'd slapped hundreds of males attempting to claim her. Now she was dead she wished she'd given somebody a chance, she would have been more protected if she was in a pride.Β
'..Anpu, I don't think this is the way to the Garden.' She spoke at last, her tail flicking a bit impatiently.
Anpu didn't reply, continuing walking forward. The stairs were speckled with white, floating above a seemingly endless void flicked with stars like paint on oil. Sunlight stretched down onto the stairs like fingers, its rays gripped onto the smooth stone, making it glisten almost unnaturally.Β
Eventually they reached the top, but it wasn't what the lioness had expected. There was a golden coyote there, and two lionesses who seemed the same age. They all dipped their heads in greeting.
'ππ ππππ ππππ π ππππππ πππ π’ππ. πππππππ.'
The coyote speaks, her voice monotone and lifeless.
She backed off a bit, confused. 'Why am I here..? Where's the Garden? And the nature, and everyone..?'
One of the two lionesses, the pinker one, spoke up. 'Oh, dear.. Sekhmet is sending you to the realm of the Ruined, you didn't make it. I'm sorry.' She lowers her head, feeling a bit bad. Sekhmet growls towards the two lionesses.
'There-? But why? I was supposed to go to the blessed- I can't go down there!' The lioness hissed, cut off when she felt the ground beneath her give way. She gave a terrified yowl as the ground fell apart like sand, the dark void trickled up, tentacles of inky black power ventured into the realm, seeping in slowly. Apakinti.
The lioness froze in place, her heart hammering in her chest, fear forced her fur to stand on end. It was like a spell, trapping her in place and forcing her to stare at the being in front of her.
Β She tore away from it, tears in her eyes from what she had seen, feeling her vision slowly disintegrating, dashing down the stairs. The blood rushed to her ears, she could hear the entity screeching behind her, consuming the staircase. The breath of the thing on the back of her neck, it was cold and hot at the same time, and she heard snapping jaws a centimetre away from her neck, though refused to look back.Β
There was a golden portal covered with rocks, she had to use her paws to pry the rocks out and clear way for her to get in. She didn't care where the portal led, she just had to get out of here.Β
Apakinti was nearing, and fast. The deathly howl of the beast filled her with dread, making her quicken her pace.Β
It caught up, looming over her. She was forced to face it, her eyes widening in horror as she stared at the horrifying entity. Its fangs stuck out from its maw like thorns. it had so many massive teeth. Apakinti snarled and tore at her face, ripping at her eyes and knocking her off the narrow staircase.
She fell.
Falling.
Falling.
She felt like she was drowning. The whispers of corrupted spirits shrieked into her ears, pulling her in and choking her, cold hands covered her pelt as she sunk deeper and deeper into the Void. She couldn't see anything other than red, her eyes had been wounded so badly, she didn't know where she was going.
Suddenly she felt herself being pulled up.
The whispers grew frantic, though they were now quiet, quickly becoming silent. She felt moss under her paws now, opening her eyes. But she could only see darkness. Strange.. why couldn't she open her eyes?
The lioness flinched when she heard a voice beside her.
'Oh! It worked. Your eyes were injured when we revived you.. so we had to remove them.' The voice was calm though sympathetic. She sighed, too tired to speak and just being relieved she was alive. The whispers still remained in her head though, hissing at her quietly.
π π°πΆ ππ³π¦ ππ΄. ππ¦ ππ³π¦ ππ’π³π΅ ππ§ π π°πΆ.
They cackled, repeating it over and over till it was ingrained in the back of her mind.
She had been resurrected.. but at what cost?
Hello! I could write your lion a bio for your own choice of payment! Examples can be found in a thread called Tribe of the Mossy Forests, I'll add a link soon <3
