I myself do adopts, and basically it could be a recoloured base or a whole new lineart being used, most of the time its of feral species like cats/dogs/reptiles but sometimes people sell human adopts. For the people buying them, I think its usually to get new ocs, so if I got a cat adopt and i like it, i'd use it as my oc. Though sometimes I just buy them to.. have, i don't know- so that's an option too.

They're essentially creating designs to then sell! So when you buy an adopt, you're buying a design.

There's also closed species adopts meaning a species that has been created by someone and adopts of that species can only be sold by them and people they allow to sell them.

A fun thing about adopts for me is breeding essentially combining 2 designs together a lot of closed species have breeding options and some none closed species have breeding options like if someone is selling cat adopts they may offer breeding options between 2 designs you got from them or yours and someone else's designs that have been bought from them ^^
