Are the odds of a special base passing completely independent of the color groups bred together, and you'd only want to match the genetics if you care about the fails? For example, say I'm breeding a Sunshine to a Celestial, vs breeding a Slate to a Celestial, and I don't care about any non-Celestial cubs. Would both be equally likely to produce the cub I want?

Hey! I actually made a post all about that, but essentially special rates are fixed.

Special x common - 1% pass rate

Special x uncommon/rare - 2% pass rate

Special x special - 4% split between the specials (unless in case of combos which are a little more complicated but in the post I linked.)

Ah, so it was changed in 2022- I used to play in 2019, and I could've sworn that genetics affected the odds of passing a special base, but when I checked the wiki recently I wasn't sure if I was losing my mind or if it just wasn't mentioned for some reason. Thank you for clearing it up! I'm glad to know this before I wasted a bunch of beetles buying anjeer lions while trying to breed scoundrels

Makes sense! I don't think it was ever their intention, but I think that as more bases were added certain combos did inadvertently skew odds. That's what I got from the developer post anyway. Anyway, you're not crazy! Everyone thought genetics helped.
