In the world of Pyrrhia, a rare and unsettling event occurs when the NightWings who possess foresight abilities collectively share a vision that divides the dragon tribes into two opposing factions: the Sun and the Moon. As the tribes align themselves, tensions rise, secret alliances form, and the threat of conflict looms.

Background:
Many years before the current events of the Foresight Conflict, a respected NightWing elder known as Luminara penned a prophecy.

The Foresight Prophecy:

"When NightWings' eyes unite, a vision takes flight,
In moon's soft glow and sun's golden light.
Two emblems rise, Sun and Moon, taking their stand,
One for change, one for tradition, in Pyrrhia's hand.
Sun's call for change: Sand, Sky, and Mud unite,
Seeking innovation and progress in their sight.
Moon's call for tradition: Ice, Night, and Sea defend,
Preserving the old ways, as their values amend."
Little did anyone know that this prophecy would one day become the focal point of a growing conflict.

The Assassination of Luminara:
Shortly after the NightWings who were blessed with foresight collectively shared the vision, Luminara, the highly respected elder who wrote the prophecy, was assassinated. Many speculate that this was the doing of a Sandwing Spy, who may or may not still be alive. Her death created an aura of mystery and suspicion that would give birth to the Sun and Moon conflict.

The Conflict:
* Change vs. Tradition: The crux of the conflict is rooted in differing beliefs about the role of animus dragons in Pyrrhia. The Sun Alliance, comprising SandWings, SkyWings, and MudWings, supports the idea of embracing the innovations of animus dragons to advance their tribes, despite the decline into madness that is connected to consistent usage of animus magic.
* The Moon Coalition, consisting of IceWings, NightWings, and SeaWings, takes a more cautious approach. They believe animus magic is a double-edged sword that can lead to corruption and chaos. They advocate for tradition, respecting the old ways, and limiting animus power.
* Seawings are wary of animus magic due to the notorious tale of Albatross, who went mad and brought about the Royal SeaWing Massacre, serving as a chilling cautionary tale.
* IceWings, the first to possess animus magic, strictly restrict its use, allowing IceWing animus dragons a sole opportunity on their seventh hatching day to benefit the tribe.
* NightWings, having foreseen the prophecy, approach animus magic with great caution, being keenly aware of its dangers.
* Neutral Ground: The RainWings, as the neutral tribe, have dragons who are torn between the two sides, unsure of which path to follow. They become a crucial diplomatic link in negotiations and peacemaking efforts.
* Secret Alliances: Within each faction, there are dragons forming secret alliances, plotting political maneuvers, and engaging in espionage to further their side's goals. They seek to influence the outcome of the looming conflict.

Pyra took to the skies, soaring over the southern reaches of the SkyWing territory, not far from Jade Mountain. Even further south, the vast expanse of NightWing territory could be seen as she flew. Pyra was cautious not to venture into the enemy's lands just yet, as her most recent orders were clear: only scout the borders.

As she soared, Pyra's golden eyes kept a watchful lookout for any signs of intruders or rival dragons. The rising tension in the tribes demanded that she stay vigilant, though, every now and then, she muttered sarcastic remarks under her breath about the vastness of the territory she had to cover and the monotonous surveillance.

Eventually, her flight led her to an outpost atop the mountain's peak. The early morning sun shone onto her deep red scales, a stark contrast to the earthy tones of the surrounding mountain rock. She had left her cloak behind, only wearing it when she ventured into other territories to protect her identity.

Sorendár crept carefully near his border. He wished to avoid a patrol, be it a NightWing patrol or a SkyWing patrol. He simply wanted to be alone with his thoughts - alone at the top of the craggy rock he loved so much. Here he could look down over both NightWing and SkyWing territory, and he could drink in the beauty of the earth and the sky.

Once he reached the rock, he sat, facing the sun, and began to twitch the edge of his tail to a song he'd learned from his mother. As he grew more confident that there was no one around, his thoughts became a hum, and the hum became a song with words. His body swayed and his tail danced as he sang to the sun, and the rock he sat on, and all the land down below. And here, of all the places in NightWing territory, he was the most happy he thought he could ever be.

Bored by the seemingly endless tedium of her patrol, Pyra decided to end her task prematurely. Reasoning with herself, she muttered. “No one would know…” As she took off from her outpost, she reluctantly performed one last sweep of the very outskirts of the territory. Her mind wandered, finding little excitement in her routine.

Then, she paused in mid-air as unexpected movement caught her sharp gaze within the NightWing territory. A few strong wingbeats brought her closer as she observed a navy-blue colored NightWing… dancing? Pyra pulled a confused face, thinking it was quite odd to be dancing alone in the middle of nowhere. She was about to leave before the strange dragon could notice her, however, her memory flashed back to the recent briefing she had received from the SkyWing Shadows, the secret espionage group which served her tribe. The discussion revolved around potential targets, including the NightWing, IceWing, and SeaWing royals, so naturally, Pyra had a loose description of their appearances.

Her more seasoned colleagues had been entrusted with the mission to infiltrate and extract information from the royals, while Pyra had been burdened with simple patrol duty. With gritted teeth, she whispered to herself, "This is my chance." She lacked her usual cloak, but Pyra believed she could craft a convincing alias on the spot. It was an opportunity to prove herself and gain recognition within her ranks. Staying within the boundaries of her territory for now, she descended to a location where she knew the presumed Prince Sorendár would have an unobstructed view of her.

As she landed, she couldn't help but overhear what she assumed was the Prince's voice. He was singing, a seemingly jovial melody that took her by surprise, forcing her to stifle a laugh. If, by some chance, she had made a mistake and he wasn't a royal, she was prepared to simply kill him. However, if her intuition held true, it would be a golden opportunity to showcase her value to the SkyWing Shadows. She held back, not wanting to approach him first and risk scaring him off. With her breath steady and her fiery spirit hidden beneath a facade of casual nonchalance, Pyra pretended to be delicately sketching the rugged terrain on a worn piece of parchment that she had hastily retrieved from her satchel.

Sorendár switched his song to a lullaby with no words, only soft sounds. He swayed more gently now, and his voice faded and faded until he stopped singing completely. He sighed, opened his eyes, and caught sight of Pyra. He reared back a few feet and opened his wings, but she could sense that she had unbalanced him and he was now nervous.

"Who are YOU, and what are you doing here?! Nobody knows this place except for me! And you aren't a NightWing... why are you trespassing?" the NightWing Prince asked, obviously flustered.

For a second his wings quivered, open, before he regained his stoic pose and folded them back in again. He shook his head to clear it and walked a few paces towards Pyra. His head tilted as he studied her thoroughly, and even though he wasn't looking at her eyes, she could feel his golden gaze burning into her, like he could see her very soul.

She nodded, keeping calm as he approached her. Pyra tucked away the old parchment that she was pretending to sketch on, then addressed the stranger. “Keen observation. I am indeed, not a Nightwing.” She flashed a toothy smile, quite humored by his reaction. “The name’s Gem.” The lie rolled off her tongue effortlessly as she sought to establish rapport while weaving her fabricated story.

Pyra extended one of her wings, gesturing to their picturesque surroundings. “As for what i’m doing out here… I am simply a traveler, enjoying the scenery that Pyrrhia has to offer. The morning light is simply divine, wouldn’t you agree?” Her shoulders shrugged with feigned nonchalance as she tucked her wing back in. "Although, I suppose I should be more mindful of where I wander, especially given the tensions between the tribes." Pyra bowed her head in apology while watching Sorendár’s expression closely as she mentioned the tribal conflict.

As he gazed at her- or more like through her- she hoped that her concocted story was convincing. The uncertainty of whether this NightWing was indeed the prince or not nagged at Pyra. She maintained her act, though her mind was still devoid of confirmation or any clue to his identity. She held her head high as she took in the NightWing's appearance. She hadn't been in close proximity to many NightWings before, and she couldn't help but note his larger stature, despite his the fact that he seemed younger than her. Then again, Pyra's naturally smaller size often made other dragons seem bigger in comparison.

The NightWing shifted his wings. Sorendár eyed Pyra for a long time - so long that the small glint of worry in his gaze could have been mistaken for suspicion.

"So... Gem," he finally began, "you are sketching the landscape. I should like to see your picture someday, if you get the chance to finish it. I am Kopur, one of the soldiers." Now it was Sorendár's turn to lie, and he kept his gaze natural and his posture loose, so he didn't seem tense.

What if Father finds out? he thought to himself. If he does, and he captures Gem... war will start! We don't need war right now. Sorendár thought about the NightWings, and how they were dreading the idea of a war so soon. They were still mid-preparation and an attack would catch them unequipped. So he decided right there and then that he would have to go behind his father's back and take it upon himself to make sure no-one knew of this little meeting.

"Gem, look. I'm glad you appreciate our landscape. We all do, too. But you shouldn't be here. If Fa... the King finds out, he'll catch you or hurt you, and that'll start a war that nobody here wants. If you leave now, I won't breathe a word. I don't want to get in trouble, either."

Sorendár let out a puff of air through his nostrils, like he had been nervous as he explained things to her. Then he regained his composure and sat, waiting for her answer.

Pyra's sharp gaze remained fixed on Sorendár as she contemplated her next move. He bore a striking resemblance to the NightWing Prince as described to her, and her instincts wouldn't allow her to simply let this encounter pass. What intrigued her even more was his near slip of the tongue, almost calling the NightWing King "father."

"So, Kopur," she put a strange emphasis on his name, "You appear closely tied to the royal family, and your concern for the King is apparent. He does strike me as rather intense." Maintaining her friendly traveler persona, she attempted to hide her suspicion behind a casual smile.

As Pyra continued, she subtly adjusted her satchel, allowing the faint clinking of her few concealed weapons to serve as a subtle warning. “You see, as a guard, it's your duty to report my presence, so I can’t quite put my talon on why you would get in trouble… Unless, of course, you're not a guard." Her comment carried a veneer of simple curiosity, but her message was clear: she was not going to leave so easily.
“Besides," she began with an overly cheery tone, "I've journeyed far to appreciate the unique wonders of NightWing territory, and it would be a shame to cut my visit short. Perhaps what Pyrrhia needs is a few dragons willing to look past the conflict." She offered a nonchalant shrug, concealing her true desire that the SkyWings would be as indifferent to the conflict as the RainWings were, but she didn’t reveal that much. Instead, she simply focused on gauging his reaction.

Sorendár shifted his front feet a few times, but didn't remove his golden gaze from her face. He took another step towards her, but he made sure that his posture was unthreatening. He knew that even though Pyra's stature was smaller-than-average, she was obviously a force to be reckoned with. The soft, ominous clanking of her weapons helped him reach that conclusion.

"Okay," he admitted, "so maybe I'm not the top guard. Maybe I'm just a guard's student. But still, if they found out you and I were here, I'd get yelled at, at the worst. But my name really IS Kopur," he added, as he'd noticed how she'd seemed skeptical of it. Whatever happened, he did not want her to learn who he really was. It was hard enough being the NightWing Prince as it was. He didn't need this SkyWing, Gem or whoever she was, learning that secret. Out here, he was simply Sorendár, not Prince Sorendár or Your Highness or Your Majesty or just Prince. He was just, well, himself, and that's exactly who he wanted to stay in the eyes of this SkyWing.

"Who did you think I was?" he inquired, genuinely curious. Someone important, or special?"

With a smirk, Pyra unfurled her crimson wings, signaling her intent to take flight. She tapped her snout thoughtfully, pretending to be innocent as she answered his question. “Oh, who knows, I'm just a humble traveler.” Reaching into her satchel, she retrieved the previously blank scroll she had been using as a prop when he approached. She playfully handed it over to him. “Here, Kopur, my masterpiece.” After gently placing the scroll on the ground, she launched herself into the sky with a series of powerful wingbeats.

Before disappearing into the distance, she called out, “Maybe our paths will cross again.” Despite her attempt to sound friendly, her parting words come off quite ominous.

Sorendár picked up the scroll to look at it, and watched as Pyra flew away - wondering if it had been such a good idea to let her go after all...

SandWing Palace
Sandy stared the SandWing assassin leader straight in the eye, challenging them. She drew herself up to her full height and grumbled something about pokey old dragons, which inflamed the leader's temper. They told her to leave at once, so she stalked out, swaying her rear end sassily as she sauntered away. Sandy decided she'd go talk to the SkyWings - maybe they'd be more receptive of her genius ideas. She cruised over SandWing territory, stretching her wings, and soared off towards SkyWing territory. She watched the lands beneath her change, and she admired the beauty of each. Once in a while, she caught the reflection of her shimmery, bronzy-gold scales in the water and she smiled. Yes, today was going even better than she hoped it would have.

As Pyra flew back towards headquarters, she twisted and turned in the air, trying to make the flight entertaining. She would tuck in her wings and do barrel rolls, dive at passing birds, or even just let herself go limp and catch herself before hitting the ground. Not paying attention to her surroundings was all quite fun, then she remembered the ORIGINAL job she was sent to do. Scout. How fun.

She grumbled, stopping her makeshift agility course to do a large circling lap. As she did so she saw a few prey animals, nothing very interesting. She looked over her shoulder to make sure Kopur wasn’t following her, but she knew he probably wasn’t that reckless. Preparing to return to her route she did a quick scan of the SandWing territory to the west. There was sand… sand… oh and more sand! But wait don’t forget that blotch of sand flying towards the SkyWing territory- wait no that was a dragon. Pyra waved and decided to actually do her job and check out what was going on. She flew towards the figure and as she got closer she could see that the SandWing seemed very determined. “Hey there.” Pyra called out, smoothly gliding a few wing lengths away from the stranger. With her gaze fixed on Cassandra, she added with a hint of curiosity, “On a mission or just enjoying the view?” Sure, SandWings and SkyWings were currently allies, but it never hurt to be cautious.

Peacock {RainWing Kingdom}

Resting gracefully in a luxuriously woven hammock suspended amid the verdant RainWing treetops, Peacock basked in the sun's radiant embrace. With a languid elegance, she idly plucked a few small, iridescent fruits from a nearby tree, her tail curling contentedly as she enjoyed the day. The rhythm of the jungle hummed around her, cradling her in this exquisite moment of blissful indulgence.

Viridian {Leaving SeaWing Territory}

As he practiced his speech while getting ready, Viridian meticulously reviewed the scrolls and documents he had chosen for his upcoming diplomatic meeting. They contained essential information, mainly focusing on the increasingly urgent issue of dragons from the Sun Coalition infiltrating Moon territories.

Clearing his throat, he reviewed part of his speech, "In recent moons, we've seen a growing number of dragons from the Sun Coalition venturing into respective Moon territories. Their intentions remain unclear, but the possibility of covert actions cannot be ignored. The potential for hostilities looms ever larger, and it's our duty to ensure that diplomacy remains at the forefront of our efforts."
Satisfied with his point, Viridian nodded to himself, then meticulously stored his scrolls and documents in his bag. He double-checked to ensure he hadn't overlooked anything and prepared to depart for the upcoming meeting with the NightWing and IceWing representatives.

SandWing-SkyWing Border

Sandy gave Pyra a long, hard look, not unlike the one 'Kopur' had given her - but Sandy's was fiercer, like she was trying to judge whether she could take Pyra in a fight if it came to that. After a few minutes of contemplation, Sandy decided to make conversation.
"Hi there. Naw, I'm not on a mission. Actually, I'm here to escape my boss. They were being super pushy and so I pushed back, naturally. The pokey old thing got mad at me, so I flew out here to get my cool back. I would fight them, but then I'd lose my place, and I like my place. Y'know what I mean?"
The SandWing seemed calm enough, but Pyra could tell that Cassandra possessed the same fiery spirit that she did.
"From the look on your face," Sandy continued, "you're on patrol, and nothing much has happened, and you are bored. Am I right?"

Central Meeting Hall for SeaWing, IceWing, and NightWing territories

Viridian was greeted cordially by both the NightWing and IceWing representatives. Behind the NightWing representative, however, was a young male, with navy blue scales. This male looked sullen, but the representative told Viridian that this was Sorendár, the prince, and he was to act as representative today for his lessons. The IceWing representative nodded their head.
The sullen-faced prince, Sorendár, came up to greet Viridian at the urging of the NightWing representative.

"Yes. Viridian. Hello." Even Sorendár's replies were short and clipped.

The IceWing representative looked at Viridian. "Do you want to start us off, Viridian?"

Pyra {Sand/Sky Border}

Pyra shook her head, her smile unyielding. "Patrol? Boring? Never." she scoffed playfully. Craning her neck to look at Cassandra, she added, "You've stumbled upon the perfect spot to let of some steam. SkyWings fight for the sheer thrill of it, a pastime if you will." Her smirk remained, that trademark expression of hers never fading. "So, what's your line of work that you find so enjoyable?" Pyra's questions flowed freely, as she'd never been one to hold back her curiosity.

Viridian {Meeting Hall}

Viridian dipped his head politely, acknowledging the NightWing Prince’s presence. “Hello, Prince Sorendár.” If it weren't for the prior knowledge, he wouldn't have guessed that this dragon was actually the Prince, simply based off his demeanor. This reminded Viridian of his own youth, where he was dragged into political discussions when he'd rather be doing what other dragons his age were doing. Nonetheless, he grew accustomed to his role.

With that reflection, Viridian began his speech, "Esteemed representatives of the NightWings and IceWings, we gather today to address a growing concern. Recent events have brought to light a growing number of sightings in our territories by dragons aligned with the Sun Coalition. Reports indicate that their presence may not be solely coincidental. To understand their true intentions and safeguard our tribes, I propose sending skilled spies to investigate. This will prepare us better for any situation and help provide an informed perspective."

Adding a second point to his speech, Viridian continued, "Additionally, we should explore the possibility of persuading the RainWings to support the Moon Coalition. Their aid could be pivotal, and we should consider diplomatic approaches to foster cooperation. I look forward to your valuable thoughts and insights on these matters."

Sandy {SandWing/SkyWing Border}
Cassandra chuckled. "Yeah, patrolling borders is nobody's favorite job. I remember being stuck on patrol duty in my early days." She swooped down and trotted across the terrain below, stretching her legs and letting off steam. Her bronzy scales shimmered in the light and when she moved, light reflected off her in waves.

"I'm a SandWing assassin," she finally admitted to Pyra, "but sometimes I do spy work, too. By the way, I'm Cassandra, but don't you dare call me that. Only cranky old elders and my boss call me Cassandra. You can call me Sandy like everybody else; it's less formal-sounding."
Sandy smiled up at Pyra. The interesting thing about Sandy was that while she was able to appear totally friendly, she also was sending off an aura of 'I could destroy you if I wanted to', which made something about her feel mysterious and hidden.
"I've heard we've been sending out spies into Moon territories... I've been on a few missions, but what about you? Found anything interesting that the Sun territories could use?"

Sahara {RainWing Territory}
Sahara found Peacock lounging in her hammock, so she decided not to bother the princess just yet. She curled around the foot of a tree not too far away and started crafting crude pipes out of hollowed branches and sticks. Once they were done, she played on them, choosing songs she knew the princess would like so as not to disturb her as much.

Sorendár {Meeting Hall}
Sorendár stared icily at Viridian (or at least, that's how Viridian perceived it) while he spoke. But once Viridian started mentioning Sun spies, the young prince fixed his eyes on the ground in front of him and began to shift his wings and feet a little, like he was feeling guilty. He tried to keep his nervous shuffling as discreet as possible so as not to alert anyone to his nagging worries and consciousness. To cover it up, he reached over his back and scratched an imaginary itch on his right wing, but his left still continued to twitch and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't remove the (still-sullen) look of anxiety on his face.

Pyra {Sand/Sky Border}

"Got it, Sandy," she replied, following Sandy down to the terrain, enjoying the casual conversation. "I'm Pyra, nothing fancy, just Pyra." She gave a nonchalant shrug.

As Sandy asked about her role, Pyra's tail flicked with a hint of frustration. "Yeah, it's a bit funny, I'm not technically a scout. The thought of it alone might bore me to tears. But I often end up doing their work because all the exciting missions go to the 'experienced' spies." She said, her voice dripping with annoyance. She paused briefly, realizing she was getting agitated, and a wisp of smoke escaped her nostrils.
With a more secretive tone, she lowered her voice as if sharing a conspiratorial secret. "Speaking of missions, just between us, I think I stumbled upon the NightWing Prince near the border, right before we crossed paths. He claimed to be a guard, but something about his demeanor didn't quite match. I couldn't capture him alone, however, I'm certain he's connected to the NightWing royals one way or a another and holds valuable information, so I'm planning to find him again."
She narrowed her eyes at Sandy, gauging her reaction. "Honestly, I couldn't give two carcasses about all this political drama. I just do what I believe is right for my tribe. I've got my own moral compass to follow."

Peacock {RainWing Forest}

Peacock's eyes fluttered open to the soothing melody of the pipes, and she noticed her Sahara playing. "How delightful," she murmured, her voice still filled with sleep. She stretched her wings, allowing them to dangle over the side of the hammock as she let out a contented yawn. "Is there anything on my schedule for the day?" She inquired, rubbing her eyes and giving her colorful friend a faint, sleepy grin.

Viridian {Meeting Hall}

After the IceWing representative gave their thoughts and volunteered to provide a spy, Viridian turned his attention to Sorendár. The dark-scaled SeaWing peered down his snout at the Prince with an intense gaze. He didn’t mean anything by it, he just had a generally intimidating facial structure. “I’m curious to hear your thoughts on my proposal, Your Highness.”
