These guys are all friends and around 18/19
Everyone in this world is a dog-person like in the reference photos (I have ref photos I made of what Jamie and Thomas look like, I will send them once we've arranged things) . It takes place in modern-day around Montana and Utah. The characters live in a town that is a mix of suburban and rural. I have a lot more details about the characters I will send later!

Jamie - she/her, story is from her point of view, she is dating Thomas. Her personality type is ENFP. She has been interested in nature all her life so she has a bit more survival knowledge than the others. She is also a bit of a musician. she is a wolf dog (husky-wolf)

Thomas - he/him dating Jamie. His personality type is ISFP. He is caring and strong. He is a bit shy, but can be loud and protective when he needs to be. he is a Burmese mountain dog

Riley - she/her she is dating Morgan. She is a bit smaller than the rest of the group. She is a bit nerdy. She is kind and a bit more sensitive than the others. She is a King Charles Cavalier.

Morgan - she/her she is dating Riley. She is kind (a bit sarcastic and sassy at times though) and emotionally intelligent. She is a collie.

Sam - he/him. He means well, but he’s a bit of a ditz and not too good with athletic things. He is a lab.

-The group of friends goes to rent a cabin in the woods for a hiking/nature trip (trip would last a couple weeks). It is pretty secluded, relatively large, and the owner is a bit of a doomsday prepper, so the cabin has a good amount of supplies and food in closets and storage.

- While they are staying there, an apocalypse similar to the one from the walking dead or the last of us starts. They get emergency alerts on their phones that urge them to stay indoors and secure. (This virus takes out a lot of humanity, especially in more urban areas)

-They stay in the house, but Jamie starts feeling more exhausted, and getting sick in the mornings (she is pregnant, about a month and a half in at this point). I’m not sure how I want her and Thomas to figure out her condition, I’m thinking either through just connecting the dots, having them go out to try to scavenge for a test from their local (now abandoned) drug store, or having the cabin already have a test somewhere. When they figure it out, there are tears of course, but they both support each other and are very in love, so they will love each other through it and make it work even though they are terrified. After a few days, they tell the rest of the group and they are surprised but supportive. I definitely want a couple of sweet little loving moments between the two throughout the story.

-they stay in the area for a month or two longer, but eventually they decide to leave in order to find a group of survivors to join, or someplace just generally safer.

- While traveling they run into several dangerous situations (haven't figured all of these out yet), one of those is (this part is optional, if you don't think it fits or if you think it needs changes we can cut it or modify) a guy who they knew from their old high school (Lucas), who is now running a group of several raiders. He and Jamie were friends in the past, but fell out as he grew and changed into kind of an ass. (That part doesn’t have to be said in the writing, I just thought I’d establish their connection) He and his gang demand that the group hands over their resources and threaten them with guns. When the gang forces the group to get out of their car, Thomas insists that Jamie stays behind them, and kind of shields her from the group. Lucas calls this out and teases him a bit. Jamie steps out a bit and Lucas is at a loss for words, as she’s far enough along now that she’s visibly pregnant. He calls off his men and they continue on their way.

- Eventually they find a group that is just starting to put together a camp. It’s located in a campground with a bunch of small bunk-ish houses. They welcome the friends in as long as they can help the community. Jamie works with the people who are going to be in charge of farming and Thomas works with those who are building a fence and doing supply runs to nearby towns.
This is as far as I've figured out, I do want a bit of them being at the camp place and I'll work with you to figure out more details later.

- The way the zombie-critters work in this should be similar to the way they work in the show the last of us (you have to be bit/scratched to turn, other than a bunch of folks who initially just got sick). This detail is just for an epilogue, but after about 5 or so years (when the population is way down) the dead kind of wither away so the world is safer again.
- I definitely want for the characters to notice the stars at some point in the story (no light pollution means that they're crazy beautiful and stretch all the way to the horizon)
- You can kill off Sam at some point if you think it would be good for the story
- Jamie and Thomas call each other either by their names, hun, or honey.
