Once again I've got a king getting up there in years and I've got heirs on the mind. So I thought it'd be neat thing to discuss here: what makes a stud an instant 'YES' for you, and what things aren't your cup of tea?

My top priorities:
-BO non-combo bases and eyes.
-G1 to G3. I breed clean and don't like a lot of outside clutter in my lines.
-Patches and Pies.
-High BO marks and/or lots of markings... but with complementary color schemes. Things that look good to my eye.
-Reasonable SB stud fees. I breed a LOT. My comfort base is around 200 to 350 for most studs, but the right RLC can get me up to 600. I'm not willing to gamble anymore on possible potatoes. I don't pay GB at all for studs out of the same principle.

Take it or leave it:
-Special combo factor and combo bases. Getting and keeping a special base going is hard enough, let alone a combo base. Even the Egyptian ones are hard, at least the combo factor bases can be applied to studs and more easily bred! I don't know how you weather-combo people with Squall/Cloudburst/ect do it
-Any primal mutation. An inheritable mutation always nice, but the males aren't my aesthetic. I'll probably never king one because I love to load my kings up on decor.
-Certain names. Humorous or sexual innuendo names aren't personally my cup of tea. If the king's got the right stuff, I'd still breed to him... as long as there wasn't another option with a similar looks/price range with a different name.

Not my thing:
-Dirty lions. I know there's no in-game effect, but still. I'm even leery about some of the old big name primal kings now (like Ysdaar.)
-Lisa Frank colorbombs. I don't care how many of those marks are rosettes or BO. If those colors are clashing on a king or eye-searingly neon, I don't want them on my cubs.
-Common/uncommon bases and too many Tier 0/Tier 1 marks. I'll maybe go for a Rare or Uncommon base if it's a beautiful combo factor king with a lot of BO, but I'd otherwise spend my money elsewhere

YES: ( * Is for the most important ones)
- BO base (preferably not combo)
- BO / Event eyes (Love: Grape, Maroon, *Draconid, Dawn, *Maneater, Dunt, and Neutron)
- *Pariah (This one is so cool) / Savage / Royal manes
- *Vitiligo 4 (I LOVE this marking), Vitiligo 8, Vitiligo 6
- *Scoundrel (Also really love these) / Outlaw markings
- Stratosphere / Leonid markings
- *Cimmerian (Underrated color) / *Pistachio (Also underrated) / Cinnabar / Tangor (It can look really good if you just use it right promise) / *Seal (Personally like it better than onyx, ebony, and noctis, though I like those too) / Bushveld / Fiery / Briar / Quartz / Bone markings
- *Trim (Probably my favorite under / stomach marking) / Limb Patch markings
- Freckles / *Quail Flecks (LOVE THEM) / Speckles
- Dorsal Line / Margay / Panther / Inverted Zebra
- Feline 7 (At low opacities or well blended), Feline 6, Feline 8
- Rosettes (Specifically Inverted Heavy Rosette, Inverted Soft Rosette, Rosette, Mottled Rosette, Shaded Rosette, and Soft Rosette.... I occasionally like Heavy Rosette but I don't like Inverted Rosette and Inverted Shaded Rosette much)
- Pies / Patches / Dorsal Fur
- Clean (Preferably G4 or lower, makes heritage easier to see + cubs sell better)
- Lots of markings (10 to 15 is usually best but I enjoy anywhere from 7 to 20)

NO:
- Common bases (Generally don't like uncommon either unless I'm breeding for a combo)
- Common eyes
- Arctic / Glacial / Ice bases (Not going to turn me away if I like everything else but I've seen sooo many I almost can't stand them anymore)
- Squabble (Exception made for scoundrel) / Rumble / Grunge
- Rainbow(?) Colorbombs (I enjoy multiple colors, colorful lions, and lots of markings but I don't really enjoy the ones with 20 colorful marks that don't really blend well or match any type of theme if that makes sense)
- Lycaon Heavy / Lycaon Scarce (I can sometimes enjoy the inverted version but generally don't like them either)
- Heavy mane (I'm sorry it's so ugly, but if it doesn't show on the lion because of posing I might gloss over it)
- No BO markings
- Low amount of markings (Usually less than 7)
- Primals (Not too bad but I usually prefer others... ferus can be an exception though)
- Uninheritable mut / No mut (If I really really like everything else I'll still go for it though)
- Dirty
- Anything above 10GB (Usually I prefer > 3GB but I will pay more if I really like it.. over 10GB though is a no-go)

Yes:
*A lot of markings
*Inheritable mutations
*Breed-only genetics
*Clean heritage
*G1s/short heritage in general
*Special bases
*Rosettes
*Combo factors

No:
*Green genetics
*Very few markings
*Extremely expensive studs
*A common base that is not used for anything of interest

None of these are necessary, nor will they necessarily ruin a stud for me, but they're nice or off-putting. Heritage in particular isn't really that important to me, but it's nice in the case that I sell or give away the cubs. I'm not sure if any one trait is an instant yes or no.

I'm currently working on 1ยฝ breeding projects so I look for a couple specific traits for those. But I do still have general preferences for any of my lions. ^^

Likes
> Equal or shorter heritage than the lioness for record-keeping purposes (will overlook this one in rare instances though).
> Intriguing design - either bright and appealing colorbomb or bold natural-colored design
> Rare BO markings
> Briar, Cimmerian, Seal, Fiery, Goridhe BO markings
> Mottled Rosette, Mottled Stripes
> BO Special bases
> Combo bases. Not useful for my common, non-factor base ladies; but, they are GREAT for passing my lionesses' special bases since the "special" rarity gives the other special an extra % boost per this news post.

Neutral
> Mutations. Just not that important for me unless I want a nice low-gen "rare" piebald/patches, like from the OG and B&W MoDs.
> Haliotis or Decennial markings, unless they make up a majority of the markings. I think they can add a lot to a colorbomb design!
> Price. I don't like to spend more than 2 GB per lion, but I don't mind paying more depending on what the stud has!

Dislikes
> More than 12-13 markings. Or just a lot of markings above slot 11. I do not like studs that have, say, a rosette in slots 1, 5, and 6, the rest of slots 1-10 are empty, and then slots 11-20 are filled up. Like, that's a glorified potato for people who don't pay for hidden slots on cubs :V
> Pariah mane. I know it's BO, I just... don't like it lol
> Common-ish RLC kings. I avoid Bandit RLC kings despite being a Bandit breeder.
> Common bases, excluding combo factors.
> Applicator bases, generally, except combo factors.
> A lot of 1 marking color, such as Feline 1-9 Elysian or Haliotis bombs (though I love vitbombs, maybe because BO?)
> Inverted Rosettes. Just kinda boring most of the time.

I am a combo breeder -focusing mostly on Cloudburst, but trying to get Squall and Basalt as well with a few others for fun. I also do BO marks so most of my choices are in relation to those goals. BO to me is tier 2, and T3 from July events as well as rosettes - I dont include RMA marks personally.

Like -
RLC kings -love those raffle girl clones
Combo base factors that match my girl
Have a lot of my favorite BO marks - Cimmerian, Dawn, Celestial, vit, Leonid, Stratosphere.
Also like Crackle, margay, panther, Feline 7 and 9,
G1 or G2 max. Prefer to use mostly G1 since they are more likely to not be related to my girls
Mottled rosette for my pons - I like rosettes, but dont really care about the rest

Neutral - Any Primal or Pie. If they happen to have the base and marks I'm looking for and are also Primal or Pie that's fine, but I never breed just for that
Rosettes
Edit to add stats -dont care about them at all. I'm all about the marks and base

Dislikes-
Filled with nothing but applicator marks. Don't mind 1 or 2 if the rest are BO, but If it has no BO marks I will not even consider. I'd rather have only 3 BO marks on a king so my girls marks can pass than 10 app marks. Run fast and far if only applicator marks
High gen (really 3 is my max)
High stud fees especially on super hard special or combo bases. Over 2 GB I wont use unless super awesome and rare marks on it.
Any inbreeding -I dont care about big 4 or 5 or whatever the current thing is, but instances of inbreeding any at all

Another combo breeder here! And actually someone who has been trying to decide on a new heir for my main as well.

Likes:
Combo bases, except the extremely difficult (e.g. Witch) month-based ones that seem near impossible to maintain.
July bases/marks <3
Clean G1-G2 (G1 always unless I need a specific mark or cannot find one)
Dawn eyes will always be my favorite
BO marks, especially rosettes. Although I prefer black/white rosettes, not into the brown rosettes in most cases. Also tend to prefer 3-4 rosettes max so that it doesn't look too much a mess (although opacity can usually resolve that)
Pies

Neutral:
Colorbombs. Really depends on whether it's just a hot mess of color (not a fan) or some really nice blends. I have a special love for the Ra RLC even though I don't love the Ra base on it's own.
Markings >10. I almost completely discount them as I never reveal hidden and if it's not in slot 1-10 imo it doesn't count for what I'm doing.
Manes, mostly because I always LTF my kings so I never have to look at it anyway. lol
Low number of markings depends on if I am working on a project or not. If yes, sometimes less markings is ideal (if I'm trying to pass more of the lionesses marks). Otherwise I'd prefer 1-10 be filled.
Primal/Ferus
Stats. I don't overly care about them at all.

Dislikes:
Dirty lions. I always heritage replace my king with a groupie because I can't help myself. lol
High stud fees (I second the 2 GB limit)
Neutron, Stellar, Preon eyes... basically any eyes devoid of a pupil I'm not a fan of. Draconid is slightly less undesirable but definitely one I avoid if possible.
Patches

All that said, I recently acquired an RLC of the 12/27/2019 Snowflake gal and was thinking of getting a clone and kinging it? I'm recently off a hiatus and unsure how well RLC kings do, especially for bases that seem a bit less popular, although I believe there are currently only 19 clones of this gal and not a single RLC king.

YES:
> Combo / Factor Bases
> Black / Red Bases
> Low & Clean Heritage
> BO Marks especially in: Cimmerian, Ebony, Noctis, Ginger, Seal & Goridhe
---- Currently running a project so this doesn't matter to me, but when I'm done I'm going to try for a clean territory like my main.
---- Tier 2s, 4s & 6s. SOME Tier 3s like August / July Studs
> BO Eyes, especially: Draconid, Daisy, Dove, Rose, Rose Ebony, Neutron, Preon & Maneater
> INCUBUS MANE
> Modified RLC Kings. LOVE when users put their own twist to a RLC King!!! Gives them so much personality.
> Project Kings! I started my own project and I love supporting others in theirs!
> Muties: Pies, Patches & Primals Smilus and Ferus.
> LOVE Unevens, Harles, Subtles & Frails
> Studs under 2GB!

Neutral:
> Rosettes. I feel like there's so many out there that it often makes many studs look too similar, but I don't mind one or two on the stud!
> Studs around 5GB / 5000SB - though I'll gladly pay if there's no additional fees for items and they have multiple traits I want!
> RLC Kings. Some are gorgeous but lawd there can be such an oversaturation of some RLC kings.
> Colorbombs. Some are fine, though I'm not often looking for colorbombs over an odd marking slot I want from them. They NEED to have a cohesive design that flows well and doesn't hurt the eyes. I won't stud otherwise.
> Dawn Eyes. They're everywhere, but I don't hate them.
> Stats. Not my thing.
> Dawns are cool in moderation - I love when they pair nicely with other colors though.

Nah
> Studs over 6GB / 6000SB. It's a weird number and I don't like it. Too much.
> Mutations: Regular Primals & Felis. Pandas, Tobianos, Toveros, Ticked and some other misc pies.
> Colormesses. No sparklelions. Not sorry.
> High Amount of Applicator marks.. If you have x20 BO Markings - SICK. I'll stud. x20 Applicator marks though? Eh. Type matters over number filled, with a minimum of 5.
> Colors I HATE: Decennial, Haliotis, Hexaplex, Neutron. I won't breed to lions with any of those colors anywhere on 'em.
