hi! back in march of 2016 (as you can see in this news post), the crossroads map was updated to the art we still use today.

prior to this update, the crossroads (it was just called "explore" then) looked COMPLETELY different, and that old art is, as far as i know, not archived anywhere. i haven't been able to find any screencaps of it at all on my own. they do exist (another user posted a link to one in this thread), but no where that's easy to find.

such is also the case, i believe, with a good amount of other old site art (the other thing that's coming to mind right now is the november shaman portraits, i believe? not sure when those were updated) (OH and the questing snakes).

many of these changes are for the better and it's good that the devs are eager to maintain and improve quality when they can. but i also think this site's history deserves a little more thoughtful preservation as development proceeds and assets get replaced.

i think it might be nice to have a page or two of the official wiki dedicated to archiving older site art!

I agree! I love observing how the art develops in-game. a lot of the art is gorgeous, but very old and rather murky in appearance, but i do like to see how wildly the changes are when it comes to the art changes, especially when they dont provide the old examples most of the time in the news posts.

I have seen images of the old explore, and while this one is better, i'd like to see how the details became more intricate.

For example, apparently this is how it used to look:

I was trying to find the old Shaman art today and can't find it. Apparently I supported this suggestion before but I'm supporting it verbally now.

Yes please, it's such a shame there isn't a dedicated archive for it! I'd love to see the old art and see how much the site has grown.

I would love a place to be able to look back on older art that has been replaced! I miss the old days but I also love the new art too! Sometimes I dig around to try and find some old art on google to relive those days. I remember when we didnt have bao ball but a sharpen claws instead!
