There are unisversal reward items that everyone got upon finishing the quest no matter if they killed the queen or spared her.
Those are: 20 Leather Beetles, 30% Impression, 400xLVL Experience, and 500 Silver Beetles.
Aswell as Applicator: Proteles Heavy ,Applicator: Proteles Scarce and the decors Faux Mohawk: Spotted Hyena, Faux Mohawk: Striped Hyena, Finespun Hyena Bodywear [Spotted], hyena nose and a Lahuru decor item and also Hyena Meat.

Should you have killed the queen you got an Applicator: Lycaon Scarce Inverted the Background Hungry Hyena Lands and Hyena Wastelands.

If you spared her you got an Applicator: Lycaon Scarce
and the background Hyena Clans and Hyena Lair.

I heavily recommend looking in your user log what exact things you received. I have to admit that the choosing is new to me and the wiki sadly does not say anything about it yet (as far as I have red yet).


(Granted I am no expert on the January event. Its one of the events I am least interested in on here-not invested at all in this event I have to admit)

Hello! I think the 'choice' is new in that we don't get the other applicators, only the one we selected from the list.

I chose Hyena Spots Scarce, after letting the Hyena Queen mother go, & my rewards looked like:

"The Lone Wanderer conclusion (Subdued Queen Mother). You got 1x Applicator: Hyena Spots Scarce, +20 Leather Beetles, +30% Impression, +400 EXP, 500 Silver Beetles, Hyena Clans, Hyena Lair, Laharu, Hyena Meat, Faux Mohawk: Striped Hyena, Faux Mohawk: Spotted Hyena, Hyena Nose, and Finespun Hyena Bodywear [Spotted]!"

Some of the items are determined by our storyline choice, & I think we only get 1 applicator now because the rest are available in the final tier of the Carrion Shop for sb.

Thank you! That's strange, I had a feeling I was missing a few things. I never received the Applicator: Proteles Heavy, Applicator: Proteles Scarce, or Applicator: Lycaon Scarce after freeing the queen. Only the scarce blotted hyena applicator I chose. I suppose I should report this as a bug?

I'm not sure if this is the intended behavior, only that that's what happened.

I don't remember if there was some information on the final reward choice screen about the change, but the "universal rewards" & "choice" reward do seem like they should be rewarded regardless.
It's strange that the Wiki rewards haven't been updated (2023), as i'd use that to narrow in on when the change was made.
I can't find a reference about the choice, other than working on something new to reward you & "The final choice will only affect the achievement, karma, and one reward you receive." (2024), checked 2023 & 2024 January event news posts.
.. That one reward may be the special background but there are 2 of them per choice (Either Hyena Clans & Hyena Lair, or Hungry Hyena Lands & Hyena Wastelands) so it would make sense for the apps to still be referred to there as well.

Yes there is a change! Yet to be updated on wiki, you will receive all decor for killing / letting go the queen but you will have a choice to pick one app. In which killing the queen showcases all the HEAVY apps, lycaon heavy, hyena spots heavy etc while letting her go showcases the light apps, light hyena spots and so on. The decors are different for each reward
