If I retire my king early, will levels/experience reset even if I choose an heir? And by extension, will I lose access to parts of the exploring map that I had previously when my king was a higher lever?

Yes, experience, levels and exploring level will always reset with new king. Also impression levels. And yes, you can choose a newborn cub or adolescent as an heir, because when kinged it will age up to 3 years old. But if you want to cub train him and patrol before he is kinged, you need to age him up to 2 years old to gain the stats from it before kinging. You can use aging stone and/or crystal to do it. If you king him before aging up you get no stat gain from the training. :) And if your new heir is over 8 years old up to 14 year 11 months old, it will age down to 8 years old when kinged.

- Also, can an adolescent be an heir/king?
