I tested making a trade and as long as you select something to put in it, have a trade name, select either public or private, include a ID if private, and fill out the I want in return box it'll go through. If at least those aren't done you won't be able to make the trade the the screen will jump to the box you missed.

Now, unless you include currency, there is no confirmation popup you have to either ok or cancel to edit the trade draft. I think that confirmation popup should pop up even of you don't include currency in the trade. That I would support.
