Anyone who is regularly in main chat has come across venting in main before, it can really drag someoneโ€™s mood down when all you wanted to do was talk in a lion game. These vents often include incredibly triggering topics, and Iโ€™ve seen some that really drag me down. I know of several others that are also made highly uncomfortable by venting in main chat.

To stop this, I suggest that you be able to flag messages and get them taken down if the messages are venting. If someone repeatedly does it, they should get a warning by mods. This would fall under the โ€œignoring mod requestsโ€ rule.

Yes, itโ€™s okay to vent, but itโ€™s better to do it privately rather than in a public chat with people who didnโ€™t consent to being vented to. For example, instead of venting in chat, you could say, โ€œis there anyone I could PM? I wanna ventโ€ or something like that.

Complaining is okay, by venting I mean bringing sensitive IRL topics into main chat.

If no support, please tell me why, Iโ€™d like to improve this suggestion as much as I can!

I think venting is pretty broadscaled and can be defined several different ways. On that note I disagree with the topic purely out of respect for several people on lioden. Venting comes in many forms and if people seeing someone just complaing about something and find it venting when in reality their just complaining then it can get a bit bothersome for the mods. Venting in a way should be kept to DMS, like triggering topics and etc. But disallowing for all forms of venting isn't right for the people who are just complaining/venting in a way. Considering not all topics bother anyone.

Not only that but it's not exactly a reportable topic. If it goes to far with crazy triggers then one can simply tell them to please stop talking about it main chat. If they continue then you flag/report them and stop paying attention to the chat.

I'm not saying any of this to be mean or discouraging simply stating what I've come to the understanding of.

I agree a bit with Avani there. Venting is pretty broad and can come in different forms, and in reality it comes to the simple "Stop reading." It it bothers you then you can report or whatever, but you stop reading. If you sit there and read through the entire conversation then that's on you. There's also the new block feature we have in place, you can just block from seeing their messages if they make you uncomfortable. I mean that's prob one of the reasons that block system is in place. Mods have suggested using it several times when conversations get out of hand. Not being rude, mean or judgy btw. Voiced my opinion, I hope everyone has a good day/night.

I agree with the sentiment that an incessant or spammy personal vent doesn't belong in main chat, but I am making the distinction between that and a grievance/generic complaint. Like, I can say, damn my groupie pulls really suck all the time, or today's rollover cubs are ugee! or ugh I spilled tea all over my shirt, and call it a day. I think that is totally fine.

"Venting" is a very generic term. Which is why i was hesitant when u asked i you should make this.

Sooo, Venting, BY DEFFINITION means "Someone or Anybody, Mainly with Anxiety, Depression and A lot of negative emotions end up venting out their emotions to people. Mainly talking it out with a Therapist or Somebody they know well." -Urban dictionary

Therefore meaning that it is someone talking about sensitive topics and personal struggles to a trusted person or professional.

WHICH ISN'T CHAT. Sure you can have trusted people in chat, (like you, AC, I trust you ) but there are always other people in a public chat.AKA, no one wants to hear mentions of SH, either it be thoughts of or acts being described.

Therefore, this issue isnt that its "Allowed in chat" BECAUSE ITS NOT! The problem here is that very often present mods will let it slide, or worse : are not even in chat.
(Now, dont get me wrong, mods have lives, but when it takes over 20 minutes for them to get there and stop someone from breaking rules, either it be "venting" or not, there is a problem.)

But that only applies to the triggering topics. Which isnt the only thing that venting includes, it happens quite often that people are just, venting in chat without mention of especially triggering subjects (such as "[family/friend/pet died [date] :(") Its normal to talk about those things, BUT NOT IN A PUBLIC PLACE WITH STRANGERS!

What i think should happen is very simple: MAKING THE RULES STRICTER.
But the problem with that is that any way to make the rules stricter would mean that Mods would have to judge the context much more. And I'm pretty sure most of us has seen at least one time a Mod not reading the context and punishing someone for something unrelated (for exemple, i think someone was once banned for talking about sharing an ANIMAL JAM account, which was said a few messages prior and mods didn't read that.) Dont get me wrong, the error is human and normal, but this could lead to a lot of worse situation.

Soooo, to put it simply, We need more mods, better rules, and a stricter code the mods have to follow to stop the uncontrolable venting that happens everyday in chat and makes it horrible to be in.

Damn not me yapping, anyways +1 support

Blaming??? I am not blaming anyone, I am simply saying facts, the very simple and obvious issue that makes chat what it currently is, is a lack of staff : There are not enough mods for the amount of daily chatters, which creates a less friendly chatting environement, which then proceeds to make people disrespect the mods.

There is also the issue that a lot of mods are different from one another (Exemple: allowing fonts or not) which can make minor rules different : One person being told its okay by a certain mod, then being told it isnt by another. I am stating what i know, what i've seen and my personal experiences, Saying what is happening and how it may affect a possible group of people (being the chatters) isnt "Blaming" anything on the mods! /nm

I second that font thing, there have been several times where I see mods say no fonts allowed and several where mods say itโ€™s okay as itโ€™s legible. Many of these rules have inconsistencies between mods. Nothing against mods, I have the utmost respect for them, but there are inconsistencies in the rules when it comes to things like venting or fonts.

Exactly. Stating issues in how things are handled and flaws in a system is in no way shape or form "blaming".

Venting actually is not as "generic" as you think. Like I've stated venting can mean anything.
I could be venting without mention any sort of triggers at all. Venting is not just about people haveing mental or physical problems with them and is in fact not always needing a therapist or a doctor to solve the issue. Sometimes relying your problems with people who aren't constantly around you actally in fact helps the situation. I agree some topics get out of hand but when triggers are mentioned it's better to report on those not sit there and report on the general idea of venting.

I also like how you pulled the literal Urban Dictionary definition even though that dictionary is a literally an entertainment site , not at all authoritative or reliable and would be ten times better if you got it from some place else.

And you did in fact pointedly blame the mods for the lack of discipline within the chats and elsewhere. Stating "Now, dont get me wrong, mods have lives, but when it takes over 20 minutes for them to get there and stop someone from breaking rules, either it be "venting" or not, there is a problem." As if you saying that they do have lives is going to fix the fact that you said they just allow such things, previously before that. Mods have to constantly put with people that have no problem harassing other users over pointless things but when someone tries to let their feelings out without having their irl family judge them over stuff everyone gets mad apparently. They honestly might as well keep it to themselves yk.

Anyway, Sorry for argueing I hope everyone has a good day/night and that everything's okay.
