Hello! I just wanted to draw some attention to my story, I wrote it a while ago and plan on making it a series! Feel free to read on and don’t be scared to give me any feedback! (Yes, this is heavily inspired on WoF, but aside from the dragons and an evil queen everything else is original 😅) Chapter one: The Past Toad grew up in a small town, with her two friends Dagger and Tide. Her Father died and her mother is terribly ill, so she went to her grandmother’s house to stay until she gets better. Toad and Tide have been best friends since she could remember, and she met Dagger when he moved to her school a year ago. “Can I please have a biscuit Grann?” Whined Toad, pulling her grandmother’s leg. “All right, little froggy.” People called her that all the time, but she didn’t mind. “Grann, you got the savory kind, you know they don’t have the frosting in them that I love.” Argued Toad looking disappointed. “Well, YOU know that your mother told me not to spoil you!” Her grandmother said. “Alright…” She groaned. “I’ll have the savory ones.” ‘Have a great day!’ She remembers her mother taking her to the first day of school. She didn’t know what was coming to her. “Poor mother…” Said Toad. “I hope she’s OK.” “Your mother is fine.” Her grandmother said, reassuring her. “I do worry about her too you know, little Froggy.” “Do you think she’ll heal, a-and be OK?” Toad stuttered, looking up at her old, tall guardian. “I sure hope so.” “Me too, Grann.” Chapter two: Tide “Hey Grann,” Asked Toad, “What’s up, Froggy?” She smiled. “I was just wondering- Tide asked if I wanted to go to her house, and I said yes, but I need to ask you for permission.” “So..? Are you going to ask, or just tell me?” “Oh, yeah can I please go to Tide’s house for an hour or two?” She glanced at her Grann, and grinned. “Yes, you can go.” “Thanks Grann, you’re truly the best!” Yelled Toad, as she bolted out the front door. She arrived at Tide’s in about three minutes. “I’m he-re!” Yelled Toad, continuously knocking on the engraved wooden door. Canal, Tide’s Mother, answered the door, looking surprised. “Oh, Toad. I’m sorry- the house is a mess- what’s up?” “I thought Tide might’ve told you that she invited me over?” Both looking confused, Canal finally looked shocked, and gasping she answered “Oh yeah! I forgot about that. Come in.” She entered to be greeted by a slump dragon lying on the couches watching MeTube on a TV. “Who’s that?” She asked. “Oh- that’s Tide’s cousin, Simi, she’s staying for the weekend.” Answered Canal. “Oh OK.” She spoke. After making her way down the hall, Tide jumped out from who knows where and squeezed Toad harder that a rock. “You’re here!” She squealed. “Hello Tide… nice to see you too. Why’d you want me here exactly?” Asked Toad, backing up. Tide replied, thinking at first, “Oh yeah! I need your help.” She took Toad upstairs and pointed out a glowing rock next to a sheet of documented paper. “What’s that?” “That, my friend, is a glowstone rock! Exceedingly rare, and glistening too.” Tide answered, looking back at her. “Whoa…” Toad looked at it closely, and the closer she got, the more it glowed. “Anyways-“ Tide said, scaring Toad. “I need your help researching it! Or… in other words help me with my homework. Ple-ase? Please please ple-ase!?” “Wow, Tide. You can’t get someone to do your homework for you! As much as I’d love to help,” She paused, sighing. “There really is a thing about you, Tide. You just won’t leave people alone.” Toad said giggling. They both laughed, “We all know how this goes Toad- in the end you help me!” Exclaimed Tide, looking disappointed. Chapter 3: The Headache Toad woke one morning to a sharp pain in her head, “Grann, my head hurts too much! I don’t think I can go to school!” She shouted, getting her grandmother’s attention. “Oh dear, let me check your temperature- I’ll be back in a second!” Toad’s headache got worse, it finally stopped, but she didn’t feel like herself, she felt… like a different dragon. Her eyes were red, and she had a sudden urge to attack, and bring the mysterious dragon outside her house up to Queen Hybree, who was in her village gathering recources. She started moving swiftly outside and doing things she couldn’t before, it was like someone was controlling her! She grabbed the dragon from behind and took him to the Queen. But she didn’t know why. Once she put him down in front of her, she felt normal again! She sighed in relief, but looked up at her Queen and apologized for bringing in front of her a nonsense stranger. Queen Hybree looked down at her and seemed forgiving with her big eyes and kind smile. “No, don’t be sorry. I THANK you Toad. This nonsense stranger you brought to me is a worthless thief!” The Queen exclaimed. “You mean, I caught a robber with ease? For- for you? But why…” Because I MADE you do it. Don’t you know- THIS Queen can control anyone in her kingdom! But don’t go telling anyone, this is our little secret. And if you do, well- let’s save that for another day.” Her three massive heads looked down upon Toad with evil in her eyes… Chapter 4: Skyla That afternoon, once she got home, Toad took some time to rest on the couch. It was like she was paralysed; she was shocked that no one had ever told her that. Then a thought came to her head, ‘What if it’s because she never goes into dragon’s heads, so they wouldn’t know- and if anyone found out she could go to jail and her daughter Zap would become the Queen! And she was very greedy, so it wasn’t surprising she wanted to keep being Queen and ruling over innocent dragons.’ All those thoughts made her brain buzz around making her tired, she drifted into a light sleep and woke up the next morning to a quiet unpleasant BANG. “Argh! What in the flaming fire was that!” She yelled, pressing a pillow against her ears. “Sorry!” Echoed a high-pitched croaky voice. “I’m tryna’ make.. ugh..break..fast!” It spoke again, “Urgh- do it quieter. Do you even know how to make it!?” Asked Toad. There was a long silence before the voice said, “Uhm… no?” “Whatever. I’ll just have some toast- I’m not eating your burnt flavourless pancakes.” She came out to the kitchen to find her younger sister sitting on the floor with a pot on her head. “I was making porridge, actually.” She said, getting up. “Ok, well- anyways I need to get to school. Bye Tippytall.” She said, leaving the house. “IT’S TIPTAIL!” Whilst arriving at school, she saw one of her classmates, Skyla, surrounded by a bunch of dragons from the class looking at her fascinated. She went to go see what the commotion was about. “And then I felt like myself again, it was SO weird… Hybree told me not to tell anyone, but who cares? What can she do to me? She also said that if she’s controlling someone she feels the same pain that they do. So she can’t make me kill myself, and if she kills me she’ll get arrested.” ‘What a smarty-britches!’ Thought Toad tilting her head looking confused, yet she knew exactly what was going on. ‘She’s going to get herself in serious trouble, and maybe even pain too. And I know that for a fact.’ She thought again, walking off rolling her eyes. During her History class, Toad heard an announcement through the speakers. ‘Can Skyla Airry please come the office, Skyla Airry.’ “This can’t be good…” Muttered Toad, as the whole class started whispering about it aswell. “I think she knows what’s coming to her.” She said, looking back at Skyla’s worried face. Everyone thought she was just going home, but Toad had a hunch that it was more than that. She got up and went to Skyla, who was packing her bag. “I think you’re going to the office because of the little story you told everyone this morning- You shouldn’t have said that, and I would know. She controlled me, too, last night. Good luck.” She whispered to her, closely. The next morning, Skyla wasn’t at school. Everyone was chatting and muttering nonsense things to get attention, they were saying things like, ‘Oh, Skyla went to the office that afternoon because she beat someone up so bad they had to go the hospital!’ and ‘She’s not here because her house burnt down and killed both her parents so now she can’t come to school.’ Chapter 5: Adventures Await Toad laid on her bed, thinking about Skyla and how she’s doing. She suddenly started getting rapid thoughts again, ‘What if the Queen’s guards took Skyla out of the office and up to the castle… wait- but if so, she’d not even be there by now. It takes at least two days to get there with no rest or stops, that means… I can still save her!’ She knew that Tide and Dagger would love to go on an adventure to the castle too. She started packing a bag and set off to Tide’s house. *Knocking* “Tide! Hurry up and open this door! It’s a massive emergency!” She answered straight away grabbed Toad and pulled her inside. “Is it about Skyla’s disappearance?” Asked Tide, looking back at her in seriousness. “Yes, actually. Would you like to come on a journey with me to go find her, and save her!?” Said Toad grinning. “HECK YES!” Tide shrieked, looking back at her with wide eyes. “Pack a bag fast and let’s go.” Toad said, winking at her. “Do you even know where Dagger’s house is?” Asked Tide after leaving the house. “Uh, yeah? I literally go there every Saturday.” They arrived in a moment, knocking rapidly on his door. “What!?” groaned a loud voice. “Toad? Tide? What are you guys doing here?” He asked watching them, confused. Tide jumped on Toad’s back, grinning widely. “We’d like to know if you’d want to come on an adventure with us!” She said, with big eyes. A small lava dragon walked into the hallway de-fogging her glasses, she looked up to see Toad and Tide standing at the door looking excited. “Hey! Shoo you creepy fans! I know my son is handsome and all-, but you’ll only see him at school please.” “Oh-hoho, no mum. They’re not drooling over me, they’re my friends.” Said Dagger, glancing around at the dragon. “Well, why are they here?” She asked, scanning the girls up and down. “They asked If I’d like to go somewhere and do something that I don’t even know?” Toad slapped her forehead, and Tide slipped off Toad’s back, shooting a miserable look at him. “Eh fine. Go off, it'd be nice to relax without him bothering me.” She starting acting like she was lying on a hammock peacefully. “Argh, mum! Stop being embarrassing!” Tide laughed at Dagger so hard she tripped herself and got shocking quick pain in her head. “Okay okay, let’s get out of this Freak Fest.” He groaned, walking out of the door. “Whoa-ho, Dagger. Your mum’s so weird…” Tide looked back at him smirking. “Yeah I know. I get that a lot- most of the time from my Dad.” He turned back at them, with an almost bored expression. Toad slumped onto the path, “Why do you look so, well, miserable Dagger?” She asked, speaking in a curious tone. He didn’t answer, nor even move. Tide went up to him slowly, and turned back to Toad, “I think he’s smouldering.” Dagger jolted aside from her in surprise, “I was not! I was just squinting seriously into the distance.” He argued, not watching where he walked. “That’s smouldering. Wait, what does it mean when some dragon smoulders?” Tide’s question was interrupted by the sound of something hitting a metal pole. They looked down at Dagger, lying on the dirt looking paralysed, “Forget everything that just happened in the last 30 seconds!” He said, getting up off the ground. “Uh, anyways. Seriously, what does it mean they’re doing?” Asked Tide trotting around the pond, “Well, I guess it means that not naming anyone, but his name starts with a D and ends in agger, was trying to be impressive…” She grinned at him, raising an eyebrow. “How about we change the sub-“ His statement was interrupted by a large angry dragon, bolting up to them. “Hey! You! Can’t you see that this is the public centre of town, no romance or any lovey-dovey talk! Got it? These parts are occupied by young, middle, and elder dragons. We can’t have any‘a that rubbish ‘round ‘ere. That’s a warnin’. Anythin’ else and its’a $50 fine young lad.” “ARGH! WHY DOES EVERYDRAGON THINK WE’RE TOGETHER! YOU’VE MADE A BIG MISTAKE SIR, ASUMING YOUNG DRAGONS DIS-OBEYING LAWS, WHEN THEY. ARE. JUST. MY. FRIENDS! I AM FED UP WITH ALL THIS TALK, CAN A MALE NOT BE OF AN AQUINTANCE TO A FEMALE SIR!? AM I CONFUSING YOU WITH MY ACTIONS FROM AFAR!? IF YOU’D LIKE ME NOT TO BE MYSELF INFRONT OF A FEMALE SOMEDRAGON, JUST SAY IT! THIS MISTAKE HAS GOTTEN TO THE POINT WHERE I WILL JUST GIVE UP ON ALL MY RELATIONSHIPS BECAUSE OF SOME STUPID LAW THAT’S NOT TRUE BETWEEN ME AND MY FRIENDS!” Dagger was technically screaming at the officer in furiousity. The officer stared back at him in shock and horror, he even got up and ran to the other side of the town square. Everyone was looking at Dagger completely still, it looked almost like he had steam coming out of his nose, and to be honest, there probably was! Chapter 6: If you go into the woods today… “let’s go.” Huffed Dagger, walking off through the town arches. “Wow, Dagger! Didn’t know you had it in you.” Said Tide, nudging him in the shoulder. They passed the lush green hills and came to stop at the beginning of a massive dark forest. “They call this place the wonderous woods, the terrifying trees, the foggy forest… you get what I’m saying? This place is haunted!” Yelled Tide. “What was that old rhyme again, about scary forests?” Muttered Dagger, looking like he’d just seen a ghost. Toad Tilted her neck, and stared into the distance of the trees. “If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a surprise. With monsters lurking here and there you’re pretty sure to die…” She said, turning back at them. “I don’t think that’s right… but whatever.” Said dagger. She looked back at him angrily, “Well I just made some of it up to fit the setting.” Tide didn’t pay any attention to this. “Let’s go!” She said, suddenly. “How are you so energetic, Tide?” Asked Dagger looking at her confused. “Because my dad used to work as a wildlife biologist. He explored this very forest and found cool and precious artifacts. This place is full of magic!” She leaped around and pounced into the massive trees, until she disappeared into the thick fog. “Tide!? Tide! Ugh, fine, I’m coming.” Toad trotted slowly into the woods, nervously. Dagger followed right behind her, “You know I have a fear of dying, right?” He whispered, glaring back at her. Inside, the trees were tall, dark and slim. With big think leaves blocking out any form of light. They were surrounded in terrifying, loud sounds, that rattled like a lion’s roar. “This place is terrifying! I feel like at any moment I’d get snatched up and eaten by a monstrous creature!” Shrieked Toad, waving her claws. “Well then in that scenario, I would fly up and stretching my wings to make myself look bigger, then bear my large sharp teeth to intimidate this monster, and breathe burning flames all over it and then, I’d save you.” Said Dagger, bravely. They came to a stop at a big opening in the forest, where a purple gem-covered tent lay, not yet set up. Next to the tent was a stump, with an axe on top, and a small campfire. Just then, a large brown dragon came jogging towards the camp area holding some sticks, he didn’t seem to notice them- “Hello stranger!” Yet… Tide trotted in front of the dragon smiling, he looked at her then dropped his fire materials on the ground. “Hi…” He spoke and a pitchy voice, then looked behind Tide to see the others standing close by. “What are you doing in the Terrifying woods?” Tide glared angrily at him, “It’s the WONDEROUS woods!” Toad ran in between then and pushed Tide back. “Whoa! I’m so sorry stranger.” She said sarcastically laughing. “My name is Rocky,” He said smiling. “I’m camping here with my sister for a ‘bonding’ trip, but all we’ve done here is argue, and now she’s run off somewhere.” The dragons became friends with Rocky and stayed with him until moonrise. “Ahh! Thank you so much for letting us all stay here with you.” Toad grinned at him. Rocky looked downward sadly. “So you’re going on this big dangerous journey, to save someone?” “Aw don’t be sad, Hey! You can come WITH us!” Tide shrieked with excitement, “A-are you sure?” grinned Rocky, bewildered. “Toad, can he come?” Toad looked back at them all from the tent, “I don’t mind, why are you asking? It’s not like I’m the leader of this adventure.” Tide cheered silently, but Rocky jolted up from his stump shocked. “My sister isn’t back yet!” Dagger looked around the camp sight, “Does she look brown-y like you, but with colourful flowers on her spine, and tree-like horns?” Rocky was looking around everywhere nervously, “Yes.” “Then I found her.” Dagger pointed over a rock pile at a small flower dragon. The sister ran over to Rocky confused. “Who are THEY?” She exclaimed, pointing at the others. Rocky looked down at her smiling. “These are my new friends, Toad, Tide, and Dagger. They’ve invited me to join them in… something that involves me leaving for a while.” The sister’s jaw-dropped, and she begged him to let her come too. “It’s not my choice. Toad?” Chapter7: How to capture a bird Toad looked around at everyone, surprisingly. “I don’t know! Why are you all asking ME!?” She walked over to a gap in the trees, and walked through. “I’m going to find us all dinner.” Tide ran after her, grinning excitedly. The girls placed glowstone rocks on the ground, to shine when they were finding their way back home. They found a small clearing, with a stream running straight through the middle. A macaw and male water rat sat by the stream having a drink. Toad got a hunch if they attacked that the animals would run away, so she whispered Tide a plan and they got to work. Toad started fixing sticks and bark together, to make a large bendy wall, while Tide flew up to the rooftop leaves, and winded them together to make a roof. Toad wrapped the wall around some rocks, encaging the animals. The girls went back inside the clearing, and enclosed the bark wall to make a kind of cage, then they attacked one animal each and got a successful hunt, the prey tried escaping, but it didn’t matter. They thought ahead of their dinner, and made an encloser. Toad and Tide came back looking proud, with a macaw and water rat hanging in their mouths. The boys watched them trot towards the campfire, and lay down their kill. “Wow! How’d you catch those? Macaws can fly super-fast, and water rats are speedy little vermin.” Asked Dagger, smirking. Rocky jogged over licking his muzzle. “It was easy. We encaged the creatures to they couldn’t escape.” Dagger looked at their dinner, “Well, we need to eat up before our long journey to the castle. Flower girl, come and eat with us.” The sister ran over excitedly and pushed her way through the others, and they all ate their share.
