Does anyone have a explanation for why the newly released bases alwaaaaays just look like old bases that have either been slightly changed, or a hodgepodge of two old bases together? I've always noticed this (with markings too a lot of the time) and was wondering if there is a realistic answer for why this has been the case for years. Is it a budget issue? I can't see it being a creativity issue bc there's TONS of really cool base ideas in the forums that players design and I'm told that the artists most of the time use base ideas from the players. If you're not sure what I mean, example: ambrosia looks like a combination of ogdoad and scoundrel. Ra is just a teal ogdoad/ennead. Nun is just Ra without sparkles or Bushveld/Ubaste with Ra coloring. Even this post from 2022 has more examples: https://www.lioden.com/topic.php?id=304429454480 but if you scroll through the base page you'll see what I mean in terms of everything looks like a combination of one or more past bases. The most unique base we've gotten recently I'd say is witch, and only because of the color scheme. The gradient/pattern on it is just Esker or any of the other similar patterns (Abyssinian or Elysian maybe). Scallop is a runner up for a recent more unique base just because we don't have many bases that have underlying stripe patterns. I understand bases need to be kept boring, since markings are meant to do the heavy lifting, but there's ways to keep a "boring" base while still having it be unique or at least just not copies of other bases with color scheme changes. For instance mistletoe, locust, soul, swarm, nautilus, howlite, and jacana are cool due to the underlying pattern and a good example of what I mean by keeping it boring yet unique. I don't mean this to be an insult, I know the creators and artists work hard, but I'd honestly rather be getting way less bases rolled out if the ones that did get released had more work put into them. It takes away from the allure of other bases bc why would I gun for things like Gem eyes if the new eyes are the same but more rare for the time being? Why gun for Ra when Nun and Khnum are now options? It just waters down the game in my opinion, and creates WAY less excitement for new releases. 0 players like this post! Like? |
