Setting:
- world consists of an endless drought and relentless sun, the realm of the "demons" in the night sky and the inner world of ghosts/whispers/spirits/etc
- certain beings become conduits, channeling the energy of the ghosts from the earth and turning the areas around them into life-providing areas (basically just allowing for water lol, so these places have savannahs and jungles and scrub, etc)
- conduits used to wander around and provide life to the whole world but have since settled in one place, creating these pockets of life separated by stretches of desert
- conduits in tricolour given the title “Phaethon” (ex: Phaethon Asani)

prides:
- most prides consist of the conduit (the pride king, though it's not always a male in some places), the otherseer(s) and their apprentices, and the pride members
- the pride go out hunting/patrolling/protecting/etc, the conduit and otherseer stay behind and act as caretakers/craftspeople/cooks

tricolour shallows pride
- named for the three large pools of water in the centre of the territory. the pride isn't very large and regularly has travellers passing in and out
- lots of patrols and hunting parties, but not enough to keep an eye on everything, so zhouya and asani set up scheduled
