Wolcen Species



Physical Description



  • No scales or detailed features except for fluffy or wispy clouds.

  • Original form is an elegant, eastern dragon-like creature without scales.

  • Color varies depending on the time of day or weather.



Social Structure


Only 11 Wolcen in a Þrēaþ at a time, including the Queen, two Kings, older offspring, and younger offspring.



  • Queen: Sky's Lady

  • Kings: Sun's Noble and Moon's Noble


Roles



  • Cycle Guardian: Protects the passage of time and ensures the sky’s natural cycles.

  • Weather Steward: Manages weather patterns and balances nature.

  • Rain Keeper: Collects rain from the earth and ensures proper distribution.

  • Rain Harvesters (2): Responsible for gathering rain, ensuring the ecosystem's hydration.

  • Oracle Twins (2) : Spiritual guides who receive and share visions, usually twins or look alike, have telepathy, and speak all languages.



Cultural Aspects



  • The Wolcen worship Heofonrīce (Sky Sovereign), a higher power embodying the sky.

  • Offspring before naming are called Ēam (young ones).

  • Males are titled Cēnedling (young prince) and females Cēnedlady (young princess).

  • Heirs for the Queen are Heofoncyninges (Sky King/Queen in training), and for the Kings, Wolcenæþegn (Cloud Nobles).

  • Wolcen do not die; they turn into thoughtless clouds when they have fulfilled their roles.



Rituals & Responsibilities



  • Wolcen collect rain from the earth, which is their food and water source. Excess rain is returned to the earth to maintain balance.

  • They protect the skies, manage storms, and ensure proper sun and rain distribution.

  • In Wolcen society, only 8 offspring are allowed in the group at any given time. If they exceed this number, the additional offspring are given a new home in the sky to watch over another species, which is considered a highly honored position. They are called Ætherweard (Ether Guardians). For short, they could be called "Æther" or "Weards".

Sǣlida (Hymn of the Hollows)



  • Son of Poem of the Pines, an Eldalir Cyning of Hǣlo and Lār.

  • Gentle and wise storyteller who left his pride to spread the stories of the Wolcens.

  • Befriended the Wolcen Queen and the Kings, visited by them daily until his passing.

  • Traveled extensively, helping and saving fellow travelers, sometimes accompanied by others.

  • Heartbroken over parting from his mate and child due to the dangers of his journey.

  • Personality: Kind, nurturing, passionate about stories and lore, a protector of younglings.



Poem of the Pines



  • An Eldalir Cyning, protector of health and lore, with a rich chocolate brown fur coat and impressive antlers.

  • Gentle, wise, and a lover of cubs, ensuring their proper upbringing.



World Elements


Strætweard (The Old Traveler's Refuge)


A community/project for travelers of all species, providing food, water, and shelter. Travelers join Sǣlida on his journeys until they find their destination or decide to move on.


Currently resting in a beautiful, grassy area next to a clean river, with scattered rocks arranged in swirls. Visitors can offer to take travelers with them or try to convince them to stay.
