We have all heard never to judge a book by its cover,
We do not judge books by their color, title, author, or complexity.
Some pick it up, some read its story, some walk past, but few destroy it.

Why don’t you people treat others like books?
Why don’t you treat me like a book?
You abandon me like a long-forgotten book that you have never read.
You judge me by my actions, but you never read on.
You tear out my pages and crumple them up, like what you did to my self-esteem.
You spread rumors like one-star reviews.
You vandalized my feelings like they were nothing more than a lie.

I wait forgotten, waiting for the day someone will read my story.
I am getting dusty.
I watch as you choose the other books and keep them by your side.
I am tossed behind you without a thought.

Then someone else stumbled upon me.
They restored me, they fixed my pages, and my cover.
They treated me right.
They read my story.

This is what the world needs, people who cared,
People who mend the holes in your heart.
People who do not change who you are because they want what they do not have.
We need more people like that.
