I'm not 100% sure if this has been suggested yet, but it wouldn't hurt to post it anyway.

One-in-four marking applicators were changed during the anniversary last year, no longer randomly selecting a marking for you and instead letting the player choose. However, this change did not apply to Mutie on Demand: Piebald and Mutie on Demand: B&W Patches.

MoD: Piebald has a 1/7 (~14.29%) chance of giving you the mutation you want, and MoD: B&W Patches has a 1/6 (~16.67%) chance of giving you the mutation you want. Both of these applicators are significantly more expensive than any of the event marking applicators, and real money is required for another to be added to the economy. (For example, Rose Pink Kisses is currently 25gb at its cheapest, while MoD: Pie is 200gb and MoD: B&W is 195gb.) It's significantly more expensive to try multiple times for the mutation you want, especially because there is nothing preventing you from getting the same mutation multiple times in a row.

My suggestion is simple: adjust these MoDs so that they have a dropdown selection similar to marking applicators. Removing the gambling aspect could increase the demand for these applicators as well.

EDIT:
"Won't this lower the price of the mutations in these MoDs?" The pie/patch market is already abysmal. Let's look at the prices of these mutations together. Please note that these prices can and will change in the time after this edit.

The majority of Croupe lions on the market are 3gb or less.
Half of the Dense lions on the market are 4gb or less.
There are 2 Frontal lions on the market. They are both 2gb.
The majority of Clouded lions on the market are 4gb or less.
The majority of Slender lions on the market are 2gb or less.
The majority of Harlequin lions are 4gb or less.
There are only 3 Bisected lions on the market. One is 12gb, one is 2gb, and the other does not have a price.
More than half of the Broken lions on the market are 3gb or less.
Half of the Heavy lions on the market are 5gb or less.
All of the Light lions on the market are 4gb or less.
More than half of the Mosaic lions on the market are 2gb or less. This statistic DOES account for the 100+ GB YoRHa Mosaic cubs. Ignoring YoRHa cubs, the majority are 2gb or less.
The majority of Mottled lions on the market are 2gb or less.
The majority of Symmetrical lions on the market are 2gb or less.

Despite being "rarer" due to the gambling aspect of their MoDs, you'll notice that most of these mutations have the same prices as their standalone-MoD counterparts.

Support. People would be way more willing to pay for those items if they could control what they’re getting. Most people aren’t gonna drop 200GB on a gamble- it’ll probably make them easier to sell, and more valuable.

EDIT: wait I think I misunderstood if the apps in question have their own separate app to avoid randomness? I thought they didn’t. But if I’m wrong, ignore my comment 💀

No support, the randomness is like a gamble and is more fun. It can give you a mod that's more expensive or a mod that isn't so expensive. Plus if you want a certain mod then trade those mods in for it or buy the mod you want instead.

Also it is not like YOU or anyone else has to use it. It's optional. Personally I would be upset if this got changed.

@Wade

This post is not about the Black Friday MoD pool in any way. The mutations in MoD: Piebald and MoD: B&W Patches do not have their own separate applicators.

i don't support, because the randomness from the piebald mod especially keeps some piebalds more rare and valuable than others. the piebald market already struggles enough as is, especially after black friday, and implementing this would hurt the market even further with more oversaturation on mutations than we currently have.

I'm not talking about the black Friday. If I'm correct every pie/patches has their own MoD.
But I'm most likely wrong about that but still I agree with Mew.

it's also a good thing to have items that cost a lot. if everything was devalued we wouldnt have much to work towards in terms of goals, and the economy wouldnt thrive.

"If I'm correct every pie/patches has their own MoD."

I JUST told you that the mutations in these two MoDs don't have their own separate MoDs. It is not difficult to take a peek at the wiki's Patches and Piebalds page.

@mew
I never said their price was a bad thing. In fact, I think it's a good thing that they're still somewhat valuable. However, I don't think it's beneficial to anyone to be dropping 200+ GB for a *chance* at the mutation they're seeking.

I have personally spent a lot of money over the years during black friday to obtain piebald and b&w mods, and bought them with gb as well. when i dont get the mutation i want, it is usually pretty easy to swap it for the one that you do want, or sell it to buy another mod. it isnt too difficult, and still preserves rarity.

and i mean this after they are applied to a lion

Supported.

I'll happily drop hundreds of GBs on a MoD for my kings and have done so in the past and will do so in the future.

I will not, however, touch either Mutie on Demand: Piebald or Mutie On Demand: B&W Patches. I'm not going to drop 200GB on a chance to get the pattern I want.

I'd buy MoD: Piebald at 200GB in a heartbeat is it wasn't random. I'd probably spend more, if I had to.
I'd love a Heritageless Mosaic Piebald king one day, but I've accepted that it's just not going to happen with the way MoD: Piebald works currently.

Support; those MoDs are relics of a different era, one it's good that the site has moved on from. I do not miss buying multiples of a marking app because it keeps giving me the wrong one now, and I wouldn't miss closing my eyes and praying I don't get my least favorite pie/patch from those mods in the future. I remember when the first one with patches came out and dreading getting croupe. (I got frontal, thankfully. Not any more popular than croupe nowadays [or then, really] but at least I like it.)

It made sense at the time to have them apply a random mutation. Pie & patch were new, and it ensured all forms spread equally at launch. That was a good thing because whether or not you could buy the app, no matter what variation you liked, there were plenty of studs with it. And since they were all new, you probably wouldn't make your king less desirable by using the app on him, because new is always worth something. Now these mutations are old, and with how little pie/patch cubs sell for you, can't even always recoup the price of the app from cub sales unless you're mass breeding low gens and have a relatively popular variant. The best advice when it comes to choosing a pie/patch mutation for a king is to pick one you like, especially if you're paying for an app for a G1, because you can't count on it to be a money maker.

The old apps contain both popular and comparatively undesirable options, and you don't get to pick, so not only can you end up with a pattern you don't really like, you can end up with one that doesn't sell... and unless you got lucky and got one during Black Friday, you may have spent a lot of GB on disappointment. Yes, no one makes anyone do that. But would the world end if people who like mosaic could just select it because it looks good on their king and is reasonably marketable? I really don't think so. I also don't think it would devalue the apps much because after all- they still are for more than one pattern! That means a broader customer base. The more people who want a thing, the more it sells for when there's not very many.

I appreciate that people like the gambling and the MoD's high price. But while I didn't have an opinion much before, I do agree that at this point in Lioden, this mechanic for something that requires the spending of real money to obtain (or else occasionally distributed in the official raffle) is a bit questionable.

Support, this change is long overdue IMO and I was surprised it didn't get implemented last Black Friday.

Yeahh its gonna be a no support from me. The pie market is struggling enough as it is and this would just end up devaluing them even more than they already have been :/

Support! I do currently have a MoD: B&W Patches in my horde from a past Black Friday, and it's going to just continue sitting there with how things stand because I would never use it myself because of the gamble. It has also been very difficult to sell, likely, again, because of the gamble. I appreciate that some enjoy the challenge, but that can be applied to other aspects of the game and not this very frustrating 200gb a try applicator.

It seems odd to me to have the courtesy of choice added to the marking applicators, but not MoDs... and (for comparison) even though some of the marking apps I have are now worth less than they were before because people can get what they want on the first go, I wouldn't change that we're all able to now.
